  • out of curiosity, are you having a PSA type night? This is the second thread you've started about "controversial" type things, especially related to the over-skinny. Everything ok?
  • I'm 5'9 and if *I* were 128, then yes, I'd be too skinny. But I also have a medium to large frame, where I think I'd be good at 150-160. Or maybe I see no point in being a size 0 to 4. I'd be happy at an 8. Like others said, it depends on body composition. However, at 128 and 5'9 I think that could be pretty borderline…
  • I'm gluten free! Avoid things with wheat, barley, and rye. (and malt) Stick to natural things, as the processed stuff can have contamination or added wheat. That way it's easier while you are trying to figure it out. I eat veggies, rice, potatoes, corn, meat, eggs, nuts, fruits. There are substitute gf breads and such, but…
  • I'm intrigued...and no. I don't eat the skin. I've always seen it peeled if it's been pre-cut. Now I'm going to look around and see if i can find anything beneficial in the skin. ETA: all I can see from my quick googling is that it is edible, but doesn't taste good. It has some fiber.
  • Drinking water CAN induce weight loss. When you aren't getting sufficient water, your body will hold on to the fluids you drink and ingest in your foods. With proper hydration your body will release that extra fluid and you will lose weight. Hence the phrase "water weight." Now water won't cause you to lose fat, per se.…
  • I haven't gone through the responses, but if you want store bought ones, I love the Xochitl brand. They some in organic and unsalted versions. They're super thin and traditional. Simple ingredients, nothing fancy. Corn, water, oil, lime. And yummy! I love them! If you decide to check em out, they come in a brown paperish…
  • I always have a water bottle with me. It's like my second purse! haha Anyway, save yourself some cash and just get a decent bottle that you can toss in the dishwasher. They make metal ones and good plastic ones. I'd say they're between $9 - $15 which I'm assuming is about 7 days worth of Smartwater bottles. :) Congrats on…
  • There are a couple things I've heard/learned that I'll share with you. 1. Digesting fiber: fiber is just a carbohydrate like sugars, but the bonds in the carbohydrate are different than those in what we call sugar (alpha va beta bonds). We don't have the enzyme to digest fiber, because the enzymes in our bodies don't…
  • I understand how hard it is when you have a routine and something perturbs that. Are you sure that your jumping is going to be that loud to wake them? Just a suggestion, can you do it later in the morning or afternoon? Even though it isn't your normal time, at least you'd still get it done. Good luck and awesome job!
  • You could add a scoop of protein powder without removing anything, if you wanted to. I have a protein powder that has no flavor. It's just protein - it's all natural whey protein with nothing added. So I can add it to whatever I want to. The nut butter has other benefits for you than just the few grams of protein. I've…
  • Real pizza...but that's because of the wheat and not about "dieting" Like another poster said, I don't deny myself anything. I just try to make it healthier. I love cooking, so it's been a super fun adventure for me to make the restaurant foods at home with stuff that I know. Like fresh local organic veggies, fresh grass…
  • The longer you are here, the more you'll learn who knows what kind of thing. Some people will expressly say how they know what they know or will cite their sources in the post. You can also tell just how people speak about the topics. I think I mentioned my science stuff on my profile, some have info in their signature. It…
  • Well, you can also choose to have it open to just your friends, which is what I have. And having the option of people seeing what you eat can be a source of motivation. I also have not had any of my friends make any negative comments about my food choices - anything I think that isn't "right" I make the notation in the…
  • The scale is stupid. I hate it. To be blunt. There's so much that goes into what your scale says. I'll give you my recent example...I was out in the 105 heat for 5 hours, had some Chinese (aka too much salt that day), and some wheat contamination (I need to be gluten free)...I GAINED 6 lbs in 2 days. I hadn't eaten enough…
  • Banned? That's really sad! You shouldn't ban those foods. It's all about what you order. Yeah, if you get deep fried stuff, but there are tons of awesome options at those places! You just have to learn what things are and what the reality of the foods is and not the stigma that's been put there. I stick to veggies and…
  • Remember not everyone on here is just doing gossip. There are a number of us who are scientists, nutritionists, physicians, etc and understand the science. So some of our "opinions and gossip" are from real hard science published in peer reviewed scientific journals. If you ever doubt something I've said, feel free to…
  • Just another thought, could it be some rubbing from clothing? If it's bright red perhaps it's a friction thing?
  • It could be spotting from the implant. Just because it hasn't happened in the past doesn't mean it won't. Think about it, your body hasn't had it's "cleaning" in a couple years. I was on depo and that got rid of my period...but then after a couple doses the spotting started. Hormones are funny things. Like another poster…
  • Amino acids don't come from fats. Amino acids are what protein is made up of. You stick a bunch of amino acids in a chain and you get "protein." Anyway, yeah low fat diets aren't where the infos at. But I'm not getting into the "which diet is better" debate right now. Just wanted to correct the OP's notion of amino acids.
  • Awesome! It's so funny how much just paying attention to our bodies changes how we eat. You still did your ritual and the food you like, but listening that your body wasn't that hungry kept you from bingeing. So awesome! That is such a wonderful thing to come to do. Congrats!
  • it's true, you learn who your friends are in through these situations. But really, you posted it on FB! What did you expect? If you needed help, why not contact them directly? You already acknowledged that it's Friday night, so why would you expect people to be hanging on fb this late. (unless they can't sleep like me...…
  • Evolution isn't that quick. It takes a long, long time to accumulate the changes. Our basic needs aren't going to change drastically, especially when you look at the changes in technology. Most of our food sources stayed fairly constant until technology advanced where we could manipulate the crops and bring things…
  • This is totally not on topic, but when you mentioned the white bread and sugar, it reminded me of the dark haired chick in "The Breakfast Club" where she had the white bread, Captain Crunch cereal and dumped pixy stix on it. heheh Anyway, good luck on detoxing from the junk! Your body will thank you! :)
  • If you are interested in Paleo stuff, there are threads here and plenty of wonderful MFP'ers that can enlighten you on the lifestyle. And I think one of the popular sites for Paleo is marksdailyapple.com As for how do you start, that's up to you. I can sometimes be a stickler about finishing some of the things I already…
  • Welcome! About the scale, you can get cheap ones (or just go to the store and use em really quick to check without purchase! haha). Also, you don't have to necessarily weigh frequently. I don't. My opinion is that weight isn't really a good thing to go by because it can vary so much. Instead, if you are strapped for cash,…
  • I don't remember the price of when I was there (plus it's moot since that was like 4-5 years ago!). But I do recall finding some "real" gyms that were cheaper. In the end, it was a little pricey, but without it I probably wouldn't have even started working out.
  • I did it several years ago and there were no strings attached, but they tried darn hard to sell me and they did. I went for a little bit and then decided it wasn't exactly for me anymore. Plus, my work had a free gym. haha I think Curves is awesome for women who are just getting into the gym thing and aren't comfortable…
  • Yeah, that's how it is most places. But it's not healthy for them. They produce bad fats when eating the grain diets, instead of the better omega 3s when on grass. Plus, the meat from grass fed is so much more tender. The grain fed thing is just another one of those fun advertising (and corn lobbying?) tricks to make us…
  • In addition to what others have said, make sure you have plenty of protein. The molecules (antibodies) that identify and rid our bodies of the invaders are made of protein. So you need to make sure you have the protein in your diet to support the additional production. Part of why chicken soup is helpful! :) Hope you feel…
  • Those of us who know beef, know that's not good meat! Grass fed ftw! Grain, bad. ;)
