False dilemma: you could have moderate protein instead of low and keep your insulin response down. It's called ketogenic, and plenty of people are recommending it. OP, a lot of people are confusing not needing to do something with should not doing something. I say, go for it. Cut bread but learn about what you're actually…

Double double protein and animal style

Beef broth and sometimes Chicharrones

You don't need a carb source like grains. Yes, you need some glucose, but the amount your body will get from the fruits and vegetables and high protein will be plenty.
-
I'm saying what you eat can affect how much you eat, which can affect how much you weigh.

As others have already been pointing out, calories in/calories out is an oversimplification. This is especially true when discussing data like this where the intake is not controlled, for instance, people not counting everything via tools like MFP. Yes, people had smaller portions back then and therefore less calories, but…

#1 Don't be afraid of fat. #2 Are you sure you can't have 100% whey protein isolate? Also, there are plenty of powders out there. Here's one. I'm not necessarily sure about recommending soy though, but if it works for you:…

1. Log everything. 2. Eat more vegetables instead.

Well, unsweetened almond milk has basically nothing to it. If you really want more protein, just use more powder or make another shake. Milk just has too many g of carbs for me right now that I can hardly drink it (keto).

Do what I do and add a low carb protein powder (ON Gold Standard Double Chocolate). Keto and need more fat? Add coconut oil and/or heavy cream. In the morning? Espresso shots. 3 net carbs.

I forget what the conclusion was, but Mythbusters had an episode on this saying.

It always depends on your goals and where you are at the time. Cut carrots and sweet potatoes, full-fat instead of non/low-fat, put heavy cream, sour cream, butter, cheese, etc. on everything, eat more fatty animal fat (beef, chicken skin-on, etc.), drink water instead of milk (even whole milk has a good amount of carbs).…

To clarify to OP, I think we answered your question about having too much fat (don't be afraid of it). Now we are having the discussion of whether or not you can have too much protein on a VLC (among other things). I'm not sure I understand fully or maybe I didn't make my question clear (for advice for OP and advice for us…

One question I would have to ask is whether (too much) protein can kick you out of ketosis (or into mild stages of it). Also, I think you should clarify your any protein (rather than too much protein) part. I understand that different amino acids are treated differently. Also, if your body is going to utilize the protein…

You may want to open your diary to get more specific advice. I think you have the problem backwards. You should be more worried about too much protein. Very Low Carb diets work best when you are eating High fat, Moderate protein, and Low carbohydrates. The reason for this has to do with the general strategy of low carb…

I believe the typical reason your body burns muscle (catabolism) is because your body wants to use the amino acids since there aren't enough in your diet. This can happen before it needs to burn muscle simply for calories. I think hookilau was just trying to say that if you have almost no body fat and need calories, then…

Making the goal just about calories works for some people, but not everyone is capable (or easily capable) of curbing their hunger down to a deficit. This is especially true for people who are overweight. If your diet is ketogenic, and you are in ketosis, this will help with hunger. The short reason is that you no longer…

Well, technically it's everything: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gluconeogenesis Ranked in order though is carbs>protein>fat.

Well it hasn't been much time. I see that sometimes you are over 30. Staying closer to 20 will certainly get ketosis started faster if that is what you want. Some tricks: full fat instead of non fat, heavy cream instead of half n half (just be careful of calories), cut tomatoes unless you know you are staying under your…

Reading up on it a little right now, it's pretty similar to other low carb diets. But don't do it. Do a ketogenic diet. You will educate yourself on how everything actually works (why they want you to eat all those bananas on that one day and that avocados would be better to eat all the time, for instance) and be able to…

Don't over eat on protein though. Eat an appropriate amount for your level of activity. Too much protein and your body will turn it into sugar. Use this: http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ Fill up on fats: meat, eggs, fish, dairy (full fat cream, cheese, butter, sour cream, etc.), avocados, nuts and seeds (no…
