I've had an Instant Pot for a year now and it was absolutely worth it, even for just two of us an even when I was living alone. My favorite thing about it is homemade yogurt and easy hard-boiled eggs. It's also awesome for chicken stock from chicken bones. Last night we made a steamed Christmas pudding, and I've made…

Raisins (or dried cranberries), cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and milk. That time with the turmeric was an accident. So was the time with the citric acid. :s

Calories are what determine weight loss or gain, not whether a food is "processed" or not. Oatmeal is pretty "processed," it doesn't grow in flakes. Put whatever you like in your oatmeal, just track the calories.

Cutting out prepackaged stuff can reduce a lot of the sodium. Also, don't worry about conforming to a nebulous, useless term like "clean." Eat foods that you like.

The guide here is excellent. I don't follow the DASH diet, I'm just generally low-sodium, but tracking my food helps me keep both my calories and my sodium under control.

Sheetz FTW.

I tend to pee a lot through the night because I don't sleep well; if I'm not sleeping deeply I'll wake up more easily. I know I've slept well through the night if I wake up in the morning and really have to go!

The selection is better? Please point me toward this magical place. I'm a 36A and the bra industry only offers me bras in black, white, and on a good day beige, and they're all padded within an inch of their lives because small-breasted women all clearly want to look bigger I guess.

I think it depends what kind of frozen foods you're looking at. We buy frozen vegetables because they're generally very low in sodium unless they have sauces or other additions, and they're handy to put into soups or chilis or rice or whatever. We do occasionally buy low-sodium canned things if we want them specifically.…

I've been on a low-sodium diet since late 2002 due to renal failure and heart failure. When making bread I just leave the salt out of the recipe. (If there was a LOT of salt in the original recipe you might theoretically need to reduce the yeast? but I've never actually done so.) The two low-sodium cookbooks I actually own…

Nobody I know IRL gives a flying kitten about my fitness tracking data.

...unless you're someone who prefers it with milk or cream and sugar.

I was not expecting that sartorial sidetrack.

ILU. I might make it without the frosting because... sssshhhh... I don't like frosting much. (I was a cake decorator for a couple years in college and am kind of over frosting.) But raisins and spices? Om nom nom nom.

You can use "loose" as a verb in some cases, meaning to release or set free--"Loose the Kraken!" You don't want to lose the Kraken because it'll likely find you before you find it.

Every time someone else wearing judgypants showed up and started lecturing I laughed harder. The bogus science was just the chocolate icing on the boiled raisin cake (and that sounds delicious, is Grandma's recipe given to outsiders)?

This thread has made a crappy morning better. However, it's all your fault if I go looking for pecan roll recipes later today.

I'd ship you some but first I'd have to find some, and the last time I mailed something to Australia you'd think I was shipping to Mars.

Mostly, though I try for a minimum of protein (EAT MOAR PROTEIN was drilled into during my years of dialysis), and of course I can't eat the quantities of everything I want if I'm going to meet calorie goals. Also, due to chronic illness (renal transplant) I'll be on medication for life no matter what. Don't let anyone…

I know right? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only woman who's never said "I'm so bloated I look like I'm pregnant!"

I just snorted my sweetened tea. It's not hindering my weight loss, but it's not doing my sinuses much good.

What's working is taking in fewer calories than you burn.

Calories are fattening, not specific foods. If you're gaining weight you're over your calories.

I always thought soaking beans was to rehydrate them enough to be able to cook them! I tried looking up soaking vs not soaking and how to reduce the gas and came up with a lot of conflicting info. I think gassiness comes down to one's personal biome and its response to beans.

I use my Instant Pot the most for homemade yogurt, chicken stock, and hard-boiled eggs, but I do make things like stuffed cabbage soup and chili in it as well for putting in the freezer. Being able to cook bone-in chicken breasts from frozen that quickly is pretty awesome for days when I forgot to thaw anything out. I also…
