You're not behind anyone else. What's more, you're way ahead of two-weeks-ago you! Keep it up. You're doing great.

This is what i needed to read this morning. Thank you. And congratulations, runner!

Congratulation on taking this first step! I was a complete beginning, and couldn't go more than 100 feet without wanting to collapse in the grass and gulp air. Now, 7 weeks later, i've run/walked my first 5k and signed up for another in a couple weeks, and i can maintain a run for 25 minutes as part of the c25k program.

Yep. You DO kick butt! Congratulations, runner! The pace will depend entirely on your own condition. You want to be in a running form, instead of walking, and going slowly enough that you could maintain a conversation of brief sentences without gasping for air. Rule of thumb when starting - if you COULD go slower and still…

Stick to the program! I was just there, two weeks ago. Completed 5/2, looking nervously at 5/3. Didn't expect i could do it, but damned if i didn't get it done on the first try. There is no shame in trying Day 3 and finding that you need to repeat it to succeed. Heck, if this wasn't challenging, it wouldn't lead to…

You've just lapped the "you" that never started. Keep it up!

i'm only in Week 7 of c25km; i expect to "graduate" next friday. I am male, 6'0" and weigh 243lbs. When i started MFP i was 288, and lost most of my weight through counting and controlling calories. Since starting c25k, i haven't seen rapid weight loss; but the other benefits have been incredible. At first, i could barely…

I noticed a little water retention for the first few weeks of my c25k program. During this time, my legs were quite sore after each run, and i carried a few extra pounds. As my legs got used to running, the soreness, and the water weight, left me.

I eat lots of potatoes. But as i understand it, the potassium is in the skin - so don't peel them!

It is a fantastic start, and you should be proud. But don't get caught up in the number of calories burned. 10 minutes of calisthenics is mostly beneficial because it will start improving your mobility, your strength, your cardio. But if you fall into the thinking that you've earned extra calories to eat back, you'll…

i've been a runner for... less than seven weeks. I'm on week 7 of c25k; not sure when i became a "runner" but i've got the bug now. This past weekend i ran in a 5k. There were a few hundred people. Folks were gathered along the sides to give us high-5s and cheer us on. There was a group handing out water, gatorade, and…

i recommend the couch-2-5k (c25k) program. You can find free apps to guide you through it. When i first started c25k, i thought the big challenge was my cardio; i quickly came to understand that just as important as building my cardio was conditioning my legs and joints to carry me while jogging. C25k let me gradually…

Congratulations, marathoner! One of these days i'll be on that road, too!

... and when i casually eat a student, the rest stop asking impertinent questions!

I was committing to making the run this evening during my morning commute to the office. Stress is minimal; i was just surprised to feel any stress at all. I've NEVER been disappointed in not running before in my life... :/

Good job! Get out there and kick this day square in the butt.

I started MFP at 288 lbs. shortly after starting, i began walking regularly. As i got comfortable there, i started pushing myself to run as far as i could, which were short sprints of a hundred feet or so. As time went on, i was able to double my distance, and start cutting down on my recovery walks between sprints. The…

Fantastic! Congratulations for starting. Be safe and have fun out there, fellow runner!

I'm extremely grateful for the c25k program; but i didn't do it only by following that program. I also learned a lot from these forums. * When i first started, i was running just below a sprint for the 60 second intervals, and gasping for air. It was also tough on my legs. Reading up on the forums encouraged me to go slow,…

Done and done! Just registered for a Zombie Run 5k for a few weeks from now. That'll give me just enough time to finish c25k and get some practice runs in before i put my life on the line!

The shakes are quite heavy.

I try real hard in my life not to base major decisions on, or even consider, what Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore did. It's worked well so far.

I've just started dating my girlfriend this past January. I turned 38 in March, she turns 30 in July. Our age shows up a bit in conversation; she knows more about pop culture from the 2000s, and i know more about the 90s.... but our interests line up, we have similar senses of humor, she's smart, kind, beautiful, fierce,…

Thanks much! It's a good place to be. Push your way up here and you'll love it, too!

Not sure how to solve that problem.... But i've worked around it! I use the ZenLabs app to tell me when to start running and walking. But i also kick up the free version of MapMyFitness, which logs time, route, pace, calorie estimates... bunch of stuff. And the MapMyFitness app synchs with MFP very well, so by the time i…

I did that way. I first was using my current TDEE - 500 cal to figure out a daily goal, and sticking to that. But as i went forward, and noticed how slowly the goal crept down as i lost weight, i decided, just for fun, to punch in my goal weight and calculate TDEE. I saw that it was really close to my current TDEE-500…

bigb465 - seems like you're fixating on oats/granola because of one really good suggestion. Instead of getting too focused on that one change, look at what you really need: Learn about calories in / calories out CICO.* You need to find ways to eat fewer calories than you burn in a day. * To do that you need to learn how…

You misquoted the OP, stating that brown rice needed to be boiled for 45 minutes. I replied that it doesn't boil the full time. While you start a simmer by bringing water to a boil, "simmering" and "boiling" are different techniques. That is why we have the word "simmer." When i cook whole grain brown rice, i do it on the…

I'd read a quote somewhere to the effect that when you over-serve yourself, that was when you wasted the food. It's up to you whether the wasted food also damages you. Since then, i've been more mindful about portioning, AND i've started eating more slowly and stopping when i'm sated. If that means throwing leftovers away,…
