It depends on how much you put into those scale results. I weigh myself every day and track it (as well as my body fat %) on an excel spreadsheet, but only log my weight on here once a week. However, I'm very aware of the weight fluctuations from water retention etc., so if I go up or down by half a kilogram, I don't read…

Welcome, and well done on the weight loss so far. I also find that the smartphone app makes a huge difference when it comes to tracking your food. Feel free to add me as a friend.

The more you weigh, the higher your Basic Metabolic Rate will be and the more calories your body will burn off at rest. If you're not adjusting your calorie goal downwards as you lose weight, you'll be eating closer to your maintenance calories and find it more difficult to lose weight.

Hey, welcome to MFP! Good luck with the weight loss, and feel free to add me :)

Hey, welcome to the forums. 4lbs is actually quite a lot - you'll probably see quite rapid weight loss at first, and then have it slowing down as your body adjusts to the new calorie intake. Don't let that discourage you - it's all moving in the right direction. The way I always look at it is that I didn't gain the weight…

Yeah, I also just bought a food scale and it's a great investment. It's difficult to guess how much you're eating, and almost everyone underestimates the calories they're eating. It helps to take the guesswork out of it and make sure you're tracking your calories more accurately.

Welcome! The community here is incredibly supportive and I definitely find it helps to keep me accountable. Feel free to add me as a friend :)

Wow, looking hot!

A friend of mine went up to a woman in a club and said to her "Excuse me, I seem to have lost my ear-muffs. Do you think I could borrow your thighs?" :-) It didn't work.

It's also got me wearing my Top Gear "I am The Stig's fat cousin" t-shirt on as a reminder that I need to get to the point when that's no longer applicable :)

It's from camping at a trance party that I went to about 2 1/2 weeks ago with some of my closest friends on the planet. Was 37 degrees celsius and one of the best weekends of my life :)

Something to keep in mind is that the scales aren't the be-all and end-all. Lots of factors can affect your scale weight including water retention, time of the day, sodium levels etc etc etc. Looking at the scale is nothing to be scared of, but if the result isn't what you wanted, it's really not something to worry about.…

At the end of the day, if you're in a calorie deficit, you're going to be losing weight. The danger of not doing exercise is that your body may start to eat your muscle mass instead, which reduces your Resting Metabolic Rate and will make it easier to gain fat back. I don't know that it's necessary to do intense workouts…

To eat in moderation within my calorie allowance :)

It really depends what you want to do with it. If you're just looking for a mail / internet touch screen smartphone, to be quite honest, any one of Android, iPhone or BB will do the trick. It also depends on your level of expertise as well. As a bit of a geek, I love the customizability of Android, but for others the…

Really well done. That's a great start. Keep it up!

I think it's only natural to feel a little bit frustrated with yourself when you have one of those days. However, don't let it get you down too much - at the end of the day, 1000 calories is less than a 3rd of a pound - even if it was all excess, that's not something you should beat yourself up about too much. These…

What I've decided to do is to budget my calories for my evening before I go out. It's a friend's birthday tonight, so I've already worked out the calories for 6 beers, and taken that off my total for the day to make sure that I have a goal to work towards even when I'm out. The willpower can become an issue after a couple…

Great, thanks very much for the advice and support everyone :)

At the moment I'm not part of a gym - just exercising at home right now - so unfortunately not an option. I'm looking to join up once I've lost a bit of weight and started getting to the point where I want to concentrate on specific areas rather than overall weight loss.

A friend's father came up with a great line once - "I've only ever been wrong once, and that was when I thought I'd make a mistake, but it turned out I was actually right"

Welcome, and good luck. With some determination and support I'm sure you can do this!

Welcome Sarah! Breakfast is always a good idea - by the time you wake up you probably haven't had anything for at least 6 or 7 hours, and not having breakfast can elicit a starvation response from your body where it tries to retain the fat stores. It also boosts your energy for the remainder of the day as well. It may seem…
