I hope your injury heals up entirely for you so you won't have to worry about it anymore. Maybe your doctor can refer you to a personal trainer or physical therapist specializing in spinal injuries to guide you along. Or maybe when you get the all clear you can find one on your own. Expert help is usually good. But the…

Glad you're going to check in with a doctor before you get going. I have inherited back problems. I love to run, but when my spine says stop I stop. Walking is easier to do every day without issues. I find swimming is usually even better than just walking (and more fun than plodding along some days!). But every now and…

First I would get an accurate digital scale and weigh in once or twice a week for awhile. If you are steadily gaining, even slowly, that could be an issue worth putting a halt to right now. Not necessarily by losing, but by ensuring you don't gain until it does become a health issue. Second, I'd try to incorporate healthy,…

If I think he got his body without steroids, he's not too big. Although the competition dehydrated look isn't my favorite, I doubt very much anyone walks around like that most of the time.

If it's like a muscle, though, you can only use it so often and for so many things before it gives out. I won't take the analogy as far as injury. But I do know that the more willpower I have to exert during the day, the less I have at the end of the day. No matter what I'm using it for.

Five pounds lost from yesterday evening to this morning. Which is still up a pound from the day before. All water. It's usually just one or two pounds fluctuation, though.

That was funny. And possibly one or more of the reasons applies. Now I need to go run again.

I've discovered something this month: The better quality of food I eat, the more calories I can eat without gaining because (in addition to exercise) I feel like getting out of my chair constantly throughout the day. Your mileage may vary. Edit to clarify my point in all this: I was fine on 1200 net as far as losing weight…

I didn't dislike the way I looked in my jogging pants and sports bra today. I'm actually getting a little solid. I'm sure now there's some muscle under there somewhere, I just need to do a bit more excavating!

Sweet Potato and Spinach 1 sweet potato, boiled or baked. 2 cup spinach 1/2 onion 4 scallions 1 red pepper 3 cloves garlic 1 tsp salt 1/2 cup portobello mushrooms 1 tbsp sesame seeds 1 tbsp sunflower seeds 1 tbsp flax seeds 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds 1 oz peanuts 1/2 oz cashews 1/2 oz almonds Coarsely blend nuts, seeds, pepper,…

I think the way you worded it is also fantastic. Who can get offended at someone bringing a fruit topping? No one, that's who!

Now that you've made this thread you better guard her life with your own because if anything strange ever happens to her, you're going to end up in jail for a very long time, even if you had nothing to do with it at all. Enjoy your new, close, protective relationship!

I try my best to make the answer to that 'always' by making healthy food choices and waiting until I'm really hungry, at which point real food tastes amazing. I just chowed down on a sweet potato smothered in a dip made of spinach, nuts, seeds, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and peppers. It was freaking delicious! But if I'd…

Actually this is really amazing. A little unsweetened coco powder is nice with it, too. I got used to drinking coffee black, but it's definitely an acquired taste.

Are you not used to that much fiber? Low carb often means low fiber. High carb (with an emphasis on carbs from plants not cake) means more fiber. And it can take the belly a few weeks to adjust. However, you could also take the new foods out and re-add them one at a time to see if a specific one is giving you grief.

All nuts, all oils. Raisins. That shriveled up little bit of dried fruit packs in some serious calories. The biggest surprises were when I first started. Cheese. A serving size was so tiny and so many calories. Cereal. Seriously, the manufacturers' idea of a serving size barely covers the bottom of the bowl. Pizza. I mean,…

Yep. This was a side effect I never managed to shake even after the better part of a year on low carb. It was most unholy. Then again, my garlic, peppers, and onions vegan menu from a few weeks ago produced a different but similarly disgusting odor emanating from every pore. I smelled much like last month's forgotten…

Save that picture. It will make a great before for when you get to after. My highest weight was 245+. I hurt and I was so out of shape I could only exercise briefly and slowly starting out. So I did ten minute walks the first week. I was up to 20 by the next week. Then I went to 30 a week or two later. Before I knew it, I…

I like the word 'skinny' it didn't have negative connotations when I was growing up and I still use it to refer to someone who isn't buff but also isn't carrying much extra fat. Anyway, going out for a jog the day before yesterday, I had to veer off to avoid swarming yellow jackets. Also, I fear the other vegans would take…

Check out the 5:2 subforum and the Intermittent Fasting subforum if you want to make this a way of life. You can find those by searching groups. There are many lifestyles centered around fasting. I do 5:2 myself. As for overindulging preceded by or followed by a fast day, except at Thanksgiving and Christmas when many…

Having lost weight on Atkins after struggling to lose on the standard American diet, I've no doubt a ketogenic diet is better than a diet filled with wheat, corn, and soy. None. And it is, bar none, the best appetite suppressing diet out there. However, a vegan diet is working wonderfully for me at the moment as well. A…

This. But you should make an appointment with a doctor and not change your diet until after you get tested. I've read it can throw off the tests otherwise.

Question: invisible to Visible. How's the attention you're getting? Answer: All coming from men about my dad's age, with unfortunate political leanings typical for that age group in the south. In other words, losing weight is so far not doing my love life a bit of good.

Depends. Did you save all your concert t-shirts from the 80s? If so, you just wait for heavy metal to come back in a big way, dust off your shirts, and you're caught up. (Sorry, couldn't help myself!)

I like this definition. I'm stealing it.

The cheapest diet to live on is soda, PB&J, ramen or other boxed crap, cheap ice cream, cheap cookies, and snack cakes. Of course you can lose weight on that if you count calories, but you'll feel like crap and won't be doing your longterm health any favors. Learning to soak dried beans overnight, drain off the water and…

I just reread my post and realized yet again that I'm a math dunce. I do a slightly under 3 mile 45 minute run and a slightly over 3 mile 1 hour walk/run.

If society isn't willing to ensure access to outpatient care first to everyone regardless of insurance and income then this will simply lead to mental institutions designed to warehouse people like prisons do. To really help people we really have to step up and fix our healthcare system overall, in every state, for every…

Okay, I'll give you the Angel Soft point. For the price range, anyway. But no, a stressful day does not give me the urge to go home and spin that roll like a kitten playing! Going to have to go with the endorphin explanation. Fortunately there is another way to get my nice legal endorphin buzz: Running!

I'm the same way. Every lecture, documentary, and abstract I can get my hands on is fair game.
