I agree. The big difference between the 10k and the half is that you will need extra nutrition because you will be running for more than 1 hour. There are lots of products (gels, beans, drinks etc) out there and every runner is different. Some products totally disagree with some runners (think stomach cramps, diarrhea etc)…

Oh that a bummer. Crazy weather. Walk, run at a comfortable pace. Just go slow. Don't push it. Just stay safe. Then sign up for another 5k . Look at races in the city in the next few weeks. Hopefully spring will have arrived then!

Start out slow. Your adrenalin will be going and you'll want to try to keep up with the people beside you but stick to your pace. Get comfortable. You want energy in your tank for the end. You want to feel good for the entire thing. Nothing new race day is another good golden rule. The night before lay out everything you…

Wear what you feel comfortable in. I wear technical stuff - how many layers depends on the temperature. I can't wait to just wear shorts and a t-shirt. Soon!

I did my first Try a Tri last year. I am a runner but swimming and biking are new to me. I enjoyed it. The swim was in a pool. This year I'm doing another Try a Tri in May. It's the same one I did last year. My goal is to be faster on the bike. Then in July I'm doing another Try a Tri but the swim in open water. This…

Add some protein to your breakfast. I alternate between the following breakfasts: - Kashi Go Lean cereal (has 13g of protein) with fruit - Scrambled eggs done up in a Flat Out wrap (has 7g of protein) - Smoothie made with protein powder - Greek yogurt, hemp hearts and fruit Ideas for snacks: - almond butter on an apple -…

Good for you! If you are stopping to walk, put your hand up before slowing down. Try to avoid just suddenly stopping. People do this especially through the water stations. Keep moving. Thank the volunteers. :-) Don't spit or do a snot rocket. Just be aware of your surroundings and the people around you. Enjoy!

Here are my thoughts: If you are currently struggling with your distance then definitely hold off signing up for the 10k. Yes, you could probably finish the distance but 1. you don't want it to be a miserable experience 2. You don't want to get injured. Doing too much too soon will increase the chance of getting injured.…

Kashi Go Lean is my favourite too - high in protein and fiber.

Go with a main dish so you know there will be something filling. - chili in a crockpot - stirfry with lean protein with pineapple - bean salad

Your only goal for your first race should be to finish upright and smiling. Don't compare yourself to other runners. You should only be focused on seeing progress in yourself. I did my first 5k in 34:05. My current best 5k time is 27:17. I'm very happy with the progress. There will be runners finishing 5k between 15…

I did one last summer. It was FABULOUS. Tips: - just have fun. It's not a timed event. There were lots of walkers at my event - wear old clothes - white is great - bring garbage bags or old blanket to cover the seat in the car for the car ride home - just have fun!

You might want to check to see if the race has a cut off time. If you take your 50 minute pace for a 5k you are looking at over 3.5 hours for the half.

Oh dear. That is a big jump. Well you can probably cross the finish line but you don't want the experience to miserable. Slow and steady is going to be key. You need to increase your mileage slowly so you don't get injury. One run a week should be a long slow distance run (LSD). This is where you increase your mileage. The…

Yes, I ran it last year wearing a white wedding dress! It was an AMAZING event and I would totally recommend it. It is a great first 5k event. There is no timing. You're only focus should be completing the event and having fun. :-)

I love swimming and yoga.

Can I ask why you eat out so frequently and if there is any thought about changing this?
-
WOW! You are awesome!

Get a big bag of frozen veggies, a bag of brown rice and a bag of dried black beans. :-) Check out your local library for exercise videos. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Yes, I lost a full shoe size.

I think it's great that you are doing the marathon training on the treadmill but I would strongly recommend getting outside to get in at least some of your runs. Otherwise marathon day could be miserable. You need to get used to the elements (headwinds, rain, sun), other people, changes in elevation. Outside you need to…

I'd recommend doing at least a 10k race before doing a half.

Try including some healthy oils. Try drinking hot water and lemon in the the morning when you first wake up. Try drinking green tea throughout the day. Good luck.

Wow. Congrats. You definitely look younger in the new pic.
