  • I always take baby carrots; I can snack on them any time I feel a little hungry. I also take apples and clementine or mandarin oranges. I keep a few cereal bars like Fiber One or Special K in my drawer in case I really feel empty. I usually bring something like strawberries or raspberries that I keep refrigerated and have…
  • I think I did pretty well. I tried to log everything as best I could. I probably underestimated some things, but I tried. I did a good workout on Thanksgiving morning, so that helped me stay just under my weight loss calorie limit.
  • Usually once every couple of weeks for me, and sometimes not that often because the things I choose for cheat meals often still fit in under my daily calorie limit, especially with exercise calories figured in. Yesterday was definitely a cheat day for me, but it was ok because I'd planned for it. I don't know when I'll…
  • I've been told by a trainer that it is good to blow out your calories occasionally so that your body will not become too accustomed to the amount that you are feeding it. I've done that on occasions when I felt I was plateauing a little. I've planned in advance for Thanksgiving to be one of those days. I won't go crazy,…
  • I like my Polar FT7 quite well. It tracks calories but it doesn't have a GPS, which doesn't matter to me, but might to some people. Amazon had it for a really good discount.
  • Oh yes, I think so. I can even tell the difference when I don't get up early and go work out. I don't have any energy when I go in to work, and I just feel wrong. When I get up early to work out, even though I've had less sleep, I feel better.
  • No potato chips in my house. I can eat the whole bag by myself.
  • Green tea has a lot of heath benefits. Just google "green tea health benefits" and you'll find plenty of information. And while it does have caffeine, it is not high at all. Compared to coffee or most sodas, it's nothing. I drink it before bed time with no problems. A note to first time green tea drinkers: Don't brew it…
  • My HRM calories seem a bit low too, but I can't prove it. It just motivates me to work even harder, though. I can definitely tell that my fitness level has improved since I keep pushing myself to get my heart rate up.
  • I have the Polar FT7 and it comes with the chest strap and transmitter. I haven't tried one without a chest strap, but everything I've read indicates that this makes a huge difference, with the strap being much more accurate.
  • Collar bones - I love that I'm starting to see my collar bones even when I'm not moving my shoulders. My face feels smaller when I wash it and I can feel how triangular my jaw actually is -- that sort of surprised me Not having my stomach hang over so much that it chafed--if you've been in that situation you know what I…
  • I'm in Texas, and I had the same problem this year when summer arrived early. I'd been walking more and more but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it up when the real heat hit. I finally broke down and joined a local gym, which turned out to be a great move for me. It allowed me to continue working hard all summer. If…
  • I think it also depends on your pace and any weight you may be carrying. Are you moving pretty fast or just ambling slowly? If you're going fast enough to get your heart rate up, that would obvioiusly count more. Also, although it's been awhile since my college days, I always had a bag of books & notebooks weighing several…
  • Yes, I've had the shock too since I got my HRM. On a positive note, though, consistently monitoring my heart rate has forced me to focus on the intensity of my cardio workouts so that my stamina is now much greater than it was even a few weeks ago. I also do strength training twice a week with a trainer and 1-2 times per…
  • I caved in finally tonight and had a few tootsie roll midgees. I'm still ok, and now at least I've had my fix. And I gave away all the candy so it's gone, out of my house! :)
  • I didn't know that! How do you do it? Are there other settings besides weight and bith date that you can enter?
  • I have the FT7 and I find myself constantly questioning the accuracy of some of it's readings. Here's what's happening: I am a 48-year old female, 5'4, and currently weigh 247. The watch set my max heart rate to 172, although that is different from most of the formulas I've seen. It seems to start the Fitness Zone around…
  • I have the Polar FT7 and I like it. I do wish it would let me enter my resting heart rate because I'm not entirely convinced that the maximum heart rate it is calculating for me is accurate. It is also doesn't have a stopwatch feature, if that's important to you. I can say that since I've gotten it--about six weeks ago…
  • Yes, my feet were among the first things to look thinner. I'd like to lose weight in my calves because pants that are a little loose in the hips are snug around my still too-large calves. A trainer told me that this is often one of the last places people lose weight since it is lower on the body. Great, because that's one…
  • I've had the same issue. It seemed that my hips stayed at the same width for months, although perhaps I didn't measure them well because my pants gradually became too loose. Then a few weeks ago, I suddenly lost around 6 inches in my hips, in a very short time. My neck has lost one inch since the beginning of June, and yet…
  • Yes, I'd love for my "attributes" to be a little smaller too. I'm the only one in the family who inherited this from my grandmother. I'm 5'4 also, with a large bone structure, and if I hit somewhere between 130 and 145, I'll be ecstatic. I think I'll also look pretty good, "attributes" or not! :)
  • I usually stop it as soon as I finish exercising, but I've never heard how you should do this. It does make sense to wait until your heart rate returns to normal or close to normal. You're still burnng calories at that point.
  • If I'm going from work then I have some strawberries. If I'm working with the trainer I like to have raspberries. If I'm working out on a weekend morning, I have 8 ounces of protein/fruit smoothie that I make, and then have another 8 ounces when I return home.
  • I work out every day, which has been tough recently because we've moved into the busy season at work. I work two days a week with a trainer and at least one day a week on my own with strength training. I do cardio every day, mainly the elliptical (30-60 minutes), but I also try to switch it up with some bike and treadmill.…
  • A few of the songs on my workout playlist: Bang the Drum All Day - Todd Rundgren Barracuda - Heart See A Little Light - Bob Mould Everything To Lose - Dido Rolling In the Deep - Adele (guaranteed to push up my heart rate on the elliptical!) Thnks Fr Th Mmrs - Fallout Boy Clocks - Coldplay Travelin' Band - Creedence…
  • Potato chips - I crave them more than chocolate
  • Zounds! I may drown! :D

  • Great post! People ask me what I'm doing and then look so crestfallen when I reply "Diet and lots of of exercise."
  • I can wear necklaces now with chains that would have choked me a few months ago.
  • I rarely ever eat all my calories, especially my exercise calories, but I do try to get to 1200 calories. Someone commented that you exceeded your calories to get to your current weight. Well, that's true, but in my case anyway, I was eating things that were terrible for me: Lots of chips, cookies, fast food, lots of white…
