  • are you weighing your food? I know this is my biggest area. If I'm not losing, its most likely that I haven't pulled my food scale out in a while. Measuring cups and spoons are inaccurate.
  • Yes, 5 pounds in 3 weeks is a really good rate! That's more than a pound a week, with not that much to lose (relatively speaking). You also mentioned some other positives such as feeling better. I think think you need to see the big picture here. All of these positive changes you are making will help you not only reach…
  • I thought the NHS would cover things normally considered "cosmetic surgery" if it was actually related to a medical condition? Might be worth looking into.
  • I broke my toe bad enough last year to need a boot (cool looking break on the x-ray, not so much fun to walk with). There are certain amino acids and nutrients that help with healing. I would also add in a few extra calories as your body is going to need them for healing. The things I added in was: Horsetail (an herb high…
  • seriously? In three weeks you've either lost 10 or 13 pounds (couldn't tell if you meant 3 pound total combined for weeks 2-3, or 3 pounds each of those weeks). Thats an insanely quick amount of weight loss. If you are shorter (such as myself) even losing .5 a week on 1200 is sometimes fantastic. Also, weight loss is not…
  • Thanks guys! I know it seems obvious. That's what I thought, but then, I didn't know what part of the fruit they used when they basically burned it to measure the energy in the food item. You all have put my mind at easy :)
  • btw, my weight loss is all vanity pounds. I'm technically a healthy weight for my height. I know this also makes it really important that I don't stray from my calorie amount as I don't really have a lot of wiggle room.
  • if its included in the package, then yes, it is including the dressing as well. An easy way to also figure out is look at the ingredients. If there are things on the ingredient list that are not in just the salad, then that is a sure way to know.
  • Sounds like you are losing half a pound a week. If your calorie amount is actually supposed to be that low, then you must not have very much to lose, making half a pound the appropriate amount. Also, vitamins will not hinder weight loss (unless you end up eating a lot while taking them not to feel nauseated, like me, lol).…
  • this varies per person depending on stride length (which can vary even by day some times) for me thats anywhere between 4-5.5 miles.
  • Oh come on. If people eat things without reading the labels, especially people who have allergies, then that's on them. Its pretty dumb in my opinion to eat anything without knowing what is in it. Doubly so if you have such bad allergies to things that you can go into anaphylactic shock. Isn't that allergy 101: know what's…
  • When MFP says cup, they are referring to the American measuring cup. This is not accurate. Type in the food you want followed by g for grams or ml/oz for liquids.
  • I think the bigger question here is why are you drinking it if you really don't like it? If you don't like it, then I say its not worth the calories and the temporary weight swings.
  • I think it depends if you are weight training or not, and if you are in the normal BMI range or not. When I was heavier, I had to lose more to see the first initial loss. Now that I'm smaller, 5-10 pounds makes a big difference (in both directions). Weight training really seemed to help though, especially being pear shaped.
  • You can always manually set it to 1400-1500 (whichever number you choose. Its just making a recommendation, but you know your body best. I say go with what is working.
  • I think they generally recommend 400 mg a day of caffeine. So yeah, you are probably having a bit too much. Even if you are not feeling any side effects from it, I would try and check you blood pressure for a few days after you've had all of this caffeine. If that is not impacted, and you feel no other effects, than I say…
  • And just as a side note, Typically COPD causes you to burn more calories at rest than someone else, so your BMR should (in theory) be higher than a 56 year old male your same height and activity level. This is due to higher calorie requirements to breath. As others have said, you should still be able to lose without any…
  • Yeah, It sounds like you need to eat less, or move more. You have lost weight, but have you changed your calorie goal? A smaller body needs less fuel unfortunately. Also, I'm not sure this needs to be said, but don't weigh in the day (or even 2 days) following your long runs. I find when I run anything over 5 miles, I tend…
  • I just set my profile from lightly active to sedentary, and my number of calories jumped up by 100 for my steps. In my mind, I don't feel like I've done much to "earn" those extra calories, as I've just been walking around the building or sitting at my desk. I might set it back to lightly active. Not sure yet.
  • And I was violently ill immediately following hidden chicken broth. So everyone is different. Introduce very slowly the first few times to see how you react. Before I went veg head 10 years ago, I remember liking grilled chicken breast. I also liked wrapping a chicken breast lightly in foil with some added spices and lemon…
  • I've been on prednisone a few times for 10 days at a time. I found the first few days I was fine weight wise, but then on day 3 or 4 would gain a huge amount of water weight. You wont gain fat if you keep you calories in check. Yes your appetite goes through the roof on the medication (though not sure why). I would…
  • Just wanted to encourage you to get out more. I think its great that you are looking at finding new ways to exercise and not using weight as an excuse not to. The other thing I wanted to say was, no matter your size, you will have jerks who will yell mean things at you when exercising outside. I was just on a run the other…
  • In case you don't like the idea of speaking to someone in person, there is a new form of therapy (of sorts) that takes place via texting/email. For some people, this may work out better as you get time to really formulate your thoughts into an email and don't feel the pressure to "fill the time" in a face to face session.…
  • I have MVP, but do not normally find it difficult to exercise. Don't forget MVP can cause severe anxiety, which can feel like palpitations (and even a heart attack in some people!), but is not. Until you are checked out by a doctor and clear things with him/her, I would stick to lower intensity exercises. But MVP should…
  • I know when I'm doing research, it is frowned upon to use anything older than 10 years of age. While you say, once its been established its just repetition, however thats not true. Our technology is constantly changing, altering how we can do studies. Our understanding of things changes over time too as other related…
  • I think the BMI is mostly a good tool (except for a select few, and the select few is a very small number: however with that being said, many people seem to think they are outliers on this. They would be wrong). We are so used to seeing people overweight or obese (let alone morbidly obese) that that is now what appears…
  • take pictures, take measurements, and use a food scale. After 4 weeks, check and see if there was a change (and don't have your check in week be your TOM, lol).
  • bowel movement....I was being lazy and didn't want to type it over and over lol
  • So the stomach bug lingers in your system for up to 2 weeks, and will continue to be expelled for up to 2 weeks as you have a BM. So unless you are sure you wont have BM, I would avoid going to the gym and other places, just to reduce spreading the virus (on that note, make sure to clean all surfaces in your home with a…
