I can honestly say that spending time celebrating/socializing with friends and family - whether alcohol was involved or not - occupies a lot more of my "best times ever" than picking up something heavy or running fast.

Thank you! For a while now, looking my progress photos from a few years ago would bum me out. It bugged me that depression and injury took so much out of me. I mean... both suck enough on their own, without bringing an extra 20 pounds of fat to the party! But now that I'm close to my goal, those photos are like looking…

I'm not a man, but a 1000 calorie meal isn't all that unusual for me, either.

I work out at/from home. I lift weights and run outside. There's a handful of days each year when I wish I had a gym membership - when it's really hot or cold or icy or torrential downpours - but overall, I exercise more consistently when it's just a matter of walking out the door to run or going to the spare bedroom where…

That says it all. Why make things harder for yourself for something that's not going to make any major positive difference to your life?

Mentally, I still prefer running because I can get lost in my thoughts and go on autopilot. With lifting, I have to focus on what I'm doing. But lifting itself isn't boring. It's between sets that's boring. Since I lift at home (best thing I ever did), I watch tv, read or play games on my phone. Sometimes scoop the cat box…

I'd suggest weighing your food, too. If your roommate grumbles, say it's to make sure you're eating enough, just as well as not too much. At your young age, you shouldn't need to drop calories that low to lose. Unless your not logging it accurately. And if your not weighing your food, you're probably not. Once you have a…

Not a huge difference. About 15 pounds lost between the two photos. (43 years old and 5'5)

For weight loss, it doesn't matter. That comes from a calorie deficit. For fat loss, I was amazed at what a difference strength training made. Not so much a difference on the scale, but a huge change in the mirror, photos and how clothes fit. (And no one else can see the number on the scale.) But I do both, on alternating…

Check with your doctor and all the other disclaimers, of course, but Zombies, Run 5k Training App starts you off with 15 second running intervals the first week and builds from there. Unlike C25K, they also have some other exercises mixed in (squats, calf raises, skipping, etc.), and a 5-10 minute "free form" run where you…

Unless you eat and drink the exact same thing every day at the same time every day, do the same things at the same time every day, poop and pee at the same time every day, and weigh yourself at the same time every day, there's going to be fluctuations. Even with all that... there's going to be fluctuations. Because you're…

This is what I do. "Wait until Saturday." I don't count calories on the weekend, so if something doesn't fit in my daily calories, I put off eating it until then. I know from the past when I logged every morsel, even at baby showers, bachelorette or birthday parties with lots of goodies (and drinks), it's damn near…

But why wouldn't you finish the whole plate? Why take/buy/cook more than you want to eat?

I think moderation works best for certain personality types. Even as a little kid eating Lucky Charms, I always saved some of the marshmallows until the end, so I wouldn't be stuck eating just the boring oat pieces. There's a part of my brain that wants to save things for later. And if I eat the entire bag of candy now, I…

The tastiest ones I've had were Balance Bar in Lemon Meringue Crunch. I think they're about 200 calories and 15g protein, so it's not a huge amount of protein, but not a bad substitute if you were otherwise going to just have a candy bar or something.

I did several years ago. I slowly tapered off Celexa and Xanax and now exercise is my main form of stress/anxiety release. The brain zaps coming off the anti-depressant was pretty weird. I had a slump about two years after I got off them where I thought I might need an antidepressant again, but it just made me feel numb.…

I'm still scratching my head at only having time for exercise OR meal planning. I mean... whether you exercise or not, you still have to eat foods. It doesn't take any longer to prep/plan well-balanced food as eating willy-nilly.

This is an older picture and I'm working to get to about this size again, and yes, I know the pants are hideous. ;) This is me at 5'5, 135 lbs and 40 years old, wearing a pair of jeans I bought when I was 14 years old and under 110 pounds. I was eating about 2300 calories a day, strength training 3x a week (stronglifts…

That's one thing I love about lifting. It can lift weights and not absolutely NEED a shower and change of clothes when I'm done. Makes it easier to squeeze into the day.

I'd suggest taking the shoes and insoles back to the store, tell them they cause you pain, and getting another pair of the Nikes you'd been wearing. Getting your gait analyzed is a great idea, but you aren't the first time I've heard of someone have problems with suggested shoes.

I will try something multiple times, just to account for different ways of cooking it, but overall... if I HATE the way something tastes, I'm not going to eat it. I don't need to love everything I eat - I don't particularly care for broccoli - but if something turns my stomach I'm not eating it. Like artichoke. If…

Both look fantastic, but I think with the darker hair, you see how pretty you are first. With the blonde hair, you see the blonde hair first.

I love the look, but I have a really short torso and they look horrible on me.

I would say it's common, but not normal. Food is food. It shouldn't make you feel guilty. Do the math. Calculate what your maintenance calories would be, and how much you normally eat now. That will tell you how much of a deficit you have. Then calculate what the calories would be in your so-called "cheat meal" and you'll…

The only thing wrong is your expectations. You're doing great!

I eat pasta regularly. A normal serving size, bulked up with a ton of vegetables and chicken breast.

43 years old and 5'5. I started at about 160 five years ago, got down to 125, felt a little too thin, leveled off at 135-145 with heavy lifting and was happy there, but injury and depression helped put weight back on. I'm working to getting back around 135 again. I currently run 3x a week and lift heavy 2-3x a week…

Try on everything. When I go shopping, I take three of any given item in the fitting room. The size I think I am, and one size up and one size down. I'll buy whatever looks and feels best, and not care what the tag says, because the sizing is inconsistent, even in the same brands. There's been times I took three sizes in…

Most of my meals are chicken breast, frozen vegetables, and a baked potato (with a squirt of ranch dressing) or rice or pasta.

I carry fat on my back, too. I call it sneaky ninja fat... it lurks in the shadows and jumps me from behind, and I don't notice it hiding back there.
