It's difficult for me to fully draw a parallel between food addiction and chemical addiction (speaking as a former druggie), but I can definitely see the connection. They're both bad coping mechanisms, and you need a lot of discipline and positive thinking to break out of those habits. Good for you, man, and I wish you the…

Yeah, I don't have much of a sweet tooth either. When I don't eat eggs, I usually just have a light sandwich. Or if I'm feeling super Colombian, I make calentado (basically just rice and beans, but for breakfast, haha). I'm not a huge fan of typical American breakfast food.

I think it's a great idea. My mother had this schedule at her former job (10 hours a day, 4 days a week) and she really misses it.

Hot sauce makes everything better. Also, cumin. I couldn't live without the stuff.

I'm not from New Mexico, but I went through there once and had the best Mexican food that I've ever had, no contest. It's a beautiful thing.

This is my poor college student approach to Chipotle, which makes it go a long way: I get a burrito bowl - usually barbacoa, white rice, pinto beans, medium salsa and corn salsa, and cheese. Sour cream on the side I bring it home, cut up some lettuce, and make tacos out of corn tortillas. That burrito bowl ends up lasting…

Yeah, I log myself every morning in light pajamas - after I head to the bathroom, before I eat breakfast. I haven't been on MFP long, but logging every day has actually helped me stop obsessing over the day-to-day fluctuations and focus on the overall trend. Even if my weight goes up a bit, I log it anyway and don't let it…

Yeah, the gluten-free thing is a silly fad. I knew someone who suddenly went gluten-free, but she was always a bit of a hypochondriac and then it became her go-to excuse whenever she would miss work or something. Unless you have celiac, you're not gonna become ill from accidentally eating some crumbs of gluten. I'd have a…

I also just question the judgment of men over 40 that are trying to date 20-somethings. I'm 23, and I actually have found 40-something men attractive, but I'd wonder if the guy makes a habit of trying to pick up young women. Also, my parents are both in those 40s, so I'd just be creeped out. The oldest guy I've dated was…

They both seem childish. He's childish for making the spreadsheet and then being passive-aggressive about it and making his wife feel absolutely terrible. She's childish for putting this up online instead of trying to resolve her marital problems. There's clearly a breakdown of communication here. I t looks like the…

Wasn't expecting to find so much tattoo hate in here! To each their own, I guess. I do think it's silly that some employers discriminate against people who have tattoos. Unless it's some incredibly awful face tattoo or something, what bearing does that have on their character, or their ability to do their job? I know quite…

Love them! Unfortunately don't have any yet because of being chronically broke, but I'm hoping for one before the end of year. I wouldn't get heavily inked because I might be studying to be a teacher, but I think tattoos can be very beautiful. An old college professor of mine had full sleeve tattoos, which I thought was…

2 lbs a week might be a bit much for you. Why don't you try changing your goal to 1 lb a week and see if that is more manageable?

My friends have been pestering me to read Dune for ages now, and I've finally gotten around to it. Really enjoying it so far! It's been a while since I've read some sci-fi.

I'm a sucker for chicken skin as well. Just balance it with everything else that you're eating, and you should be fine. I tend to get thighs more often than breast because they're cheaper and they're tasty.

No, "starvation mode" (at least in the way dieters frequently talk about it) doesn't exist - you're metabolism is not gonna slow down because of a short-term deficit in calories. However, eating 500 calories a day isn't "starvation mode". It's actual starving. You'll be tired, irritable, get sick more easily, and yes, you…

That's interesting - when I was dealing with a variety of mental health issues, I saw both a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I met with the psychologist once a week for an hour of talk therapy. I only ever met with my psychiatrist once a month for 40 minutes to see how I was doing on my medications. I've had a few…

It really depends on the guy. Some people look great with a beard, and others not so much. I generally prefer short, well groomed beards, or a bit of stubble. But some guys look better clean-shaven. Goatees, however, are almost universally awful.

Because I'm broke, and because I have a working interview tomorrow morning (which, if all goes well, will help alleviate my brokeness). It's times like this that I sort of wish I had roommates. This apartment is so quiet that it's unsettling.

This is exactly what I came here to say. They were sued because they're basically a pyramid scheme, and also because of the dubious health claims. There were also allegations that some people had liver problems that may have been linked to Herbalife, but the scientific studies surrounding that are inconclusive. Either way,…

^^^ This is exactly what I came here to say. Cleanses are generally ineffective, and "toxins" don't exist. Even the Wiki article cites that there is no evidence that these undefined toxins exist, and that it has been entirely rejected by the vast majority of scientists -…

I agree that logging your calories would be a hassle, and if I were about to go on a trip like that, I wouldn't bother. If you're trying to keep your diet, than just use common sense about what you eat, and watch your portion size. But I'd say that you shouldn't over-stress about your food. Enjoy your vacation! How often…

It matters to some women more than others. I have one friend who is 5'1" and for some reason prefers to date guys almost a foot taller than her, but I have another friend who is 5'8" and whose boyfriend is slighter shorter than her. So it's hard to say. I am 5'5", and slightly prefer guys who are 5'10" and up, but I've…

Yeah, I also hate to be a debbie downer, but 3 lbs in one week is a little much. I once lost 4 lbs in one week, but it was because I had an intensely depressive episode and I was hardly eating. And I gained most of that weight back the following week. Like fatbegone85 said, the calorie deficit required to lose that much…

^^ This, all the way. I'd say to keep your diet the same until you do the blood work. It could very well be something else, so you don't want to confuse the results. And if so, good luck! I don't actually know anyone that eats gluten-free besides my good friend who has Celiac, and she still eats very well and with plenty…

Oatmeal, or really anything with that sort of texture. Unpleasant textures are generally the biggest turn-off for me when it comes to food.

Like others said, it depends on your definition of "thin". I'm the same height as you - and I know people at my same height who weigh 115-120, and it suits their body type. At my healthiest, I weighed about 140 - which I think suits my particular body type, so I don't think I'd ever aim for the lower-end of my BMI range.

Red meat, fried foods, salt. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I'm never tempted by dessert. But put some steak and fries in front of me, and I'm a happy gal. My slightly healthier food addiction is hot sauce. I crave the stuff.

Bandeja paisa! It reminds me of home, and of lovely vacations visiting relatives in Colombia. (If this seems like a lot of food, it's because it is. The platter they serve it on is gigantic.) Skirt steak Red beans cooked with pork Chicharron (=fried pork belly) Fried egg Baked sweet plantains Chorizo Arepa (=maize…
