If you are doing all of the above suggestions and not losing, you may need to see your health care provider. I lost 100#, just by eating less calories than I burned, before I began to even walk more. You should be losing if you are logging everything you eat and drink and are eating less calories than you are burning.
-
No. Eating less calories than you burn is how weight is lost. Overeating anything will lead to weight gain. I attribute my success (maintenance for over 2-1/2 years) to all foods in moderation. Sustainability is key for me to be able to keep the weight off.

I think it is kind of a moot point for a lot of people. Pre-MFP, I never read labels, and I think there are a lot of people that don't read labels. I know that I was a little shocked at serving sizes when I first started MFP and began reading labels before I would even purchase the food. There are serving sizes on the…

Congratulations on you amazing accomplishment! You look fantastic! Well done!

It is never too late. I started MFP @ 60. I will be 65 in September. I have lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for over 2-1/2 years now. It isn't easy at any age, but you can absolutely do this as others have said. For me, it is about logging everything I eat and drink, every single day.…

I agree. I said that above. But that is not why people gain back the weight. It is because they go back to overeating. My point is people have to do what works for them, and I think the container method would work for many people.

Some people do not have a problem with not having precise amounts. I know I didn't, don't. Numbers are general. Scales can be inaccurate also. How each of us burns calories is not the same. If you are losing weight, no matter how you measure, it is working. Whatever works for each of us.
-
I still monitor my weight daily. My upper limit is 5#, but the most I have been up was 4 and then I cut calories for a while. This has been working for me on maintenance for 2-1/2 years now. I simply can not allow myself to let my weight get out of control again. Five pounds seems like a manageable amount to me.

It is what you are doing on MFP anyway, at least I am. For example,I make a batch of steel cut oatmeal and freeze it in individual containers. I do prep work for a whole week and put it in individual snack bags or containers.I don't weigh anything, I just eyeball it and log it. And it is no different from using measuring…

Well, I am all for any way that any of us can become healthier. I feel it is wrong to judge what is right or wrong for anyone else. Many different things factor in to our decisions and how we can achieve our goals. The bottom line is to make the commitment and to do whatever it takes. There are no easy solutions to weight…

^^the statistics are pretty clear, over 80% of the people that lose the weight gain it back within 5 years, and a lot of people gain even more back. This is no matter how the weight is lost. There are multiple threads here everyday from people that are back on MFP after gaining weight back. Do what works best for each of…

This is a system that can really work for a lot of people. Just because some people need the accuracy of a scale, doesn't mean everyone does. I managed to lose over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for over 2-1/2 years now, just by eye balling my portion sizes. I bought a scale early on here and used it…

^^I agree wholeheartedly. My experience, I have been on MFP for over 4 years, over 2-1/2 on maintenance, is, that to have the best chance of maintaining for a lifetime is to make it as sustainable as possible. Limiting yourself to only certain foods increases your chance of giving up over time. The statistics are that over…

I limit overly processed foods and restaurants, otherwise, if I want something I have it. Just way less than what I used to do. For me, it is all about moderation and portion control. Sustainability for life hopefully.

^^This works! Lost over 160# and have kept if off for over 2-1/2 years, eating all foods in moderation and sticking with my calorie allotment.
-
OP, great that you have found what works for you, that is awesome. For me, it would never work. Very early on (after 2 months on MFP) I read a thread that advised moderation in all foods. I was trying very low carb, no bread up until then. Ever since then I have been eating all foods in moderation, with very little overly…

Thanks, I needed that! Motivation to get through another day!

There is 73 calories 1TBSP of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing. 1 tbsp. is not very much dressing. The calories add up very quickly.

I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight, and have been maintaining for over 2-1/2 years. I have found that what worked for me best (after two months of trying "clean eating") was all things in moderation and staying within my calorie allotment. It served me well while losing and has been sustainable so far in…

Get a good recipe for a vinaigrette. I use 3TBSP of a good evoo to 3TBSP vinegar ratio. Add minced herbs, shallots, chives, onions, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or whatever spices or herbs you like to your taste. Healthy and delicious. I use a small canning jar to shake it in and this makes enough for a couple…

I have had a fitbit for over 3 years now. I average about 20K per day. I have only gotten over 30K four times. I can't imagine getting that many every day, that is incredible! My fitbit user is: www.fitbit.com/user/24WS2G feel free to add me

I don't agree with the no/low calorie sweeteners not helping with weight loss because they can help keep calories lower depending on how much you use. For example, pop. Diet vs regular. You save a lot of calories by choosing diet over regular. I prefer not to drink my calories, but when I occasionally have pop, it is diet.…

Very, very impressive! What an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations on all the hard work that brought you to this success in just a year! Your time is incredible! Well done!

Every day for over 4 years. 2-1/2 years on maintenance.

Are you planning on never eating ice cream again? Because, in order for weight loss to be sustainable, you have to allow yourself to eat things that you like. I lost over 160# total, and in order to have lost the weight, and maintained the loss for over 2-1/2 years, I have taught myself portion control, and all…

Denial, I would guess. Same as for those that want a magic pill or a "special drink or food". A quick fix. Or an easier fix. No matter what, you have to be willing to learn to not eat more calories than you burn. The long term solution is the same no matter what. You have to learn to not eat more calories than you burn,…

I would guess that a fair amount of people would be inclined to not eat correct portion sizes and moderate their food intake. If they could do this, they would have been able to lose without WLS, or resorting to this new procedure. Bottom line is, in order to keep the weight off, they WILL have to learn to moderate their…

I had all four out at age 25. Oral surgery. The nurse gave me the medication and told me to count down from 10. I remember 9. Next thing I knew it was over. It was late afternoon. Ate liquids that night, and was eating normal food the next day. I didn't even need to take an aspirin. I was lucky, I had no problems at all.…
