Agreed, starvation mode is a myth. I am kind of being sarcastic, trying to point out the myth of "starvation mode". Countless of the innocent victims would have maybe survived if they "hung on to their fat reserves". Starvation mode is ludicrous.

[ When does starvation mode become starvation? My point is if starvation mode is real, why didn't the people being starved in concentration camps go into "starvation mode" to hang onto their fat stores, if it is in fact, a real mode. They kept on losing weight. Some died of starvation. Some were murdered by their captors.…

Based mine on being able to go very early in the a.m., so I chose Anytime Fitness. There are 4 clubs between my home and work that I can use, anytime of the day.

I would like to know why all the people incarcerated in concentration camps in WWII did not go into starvation mode..................just wondering. Consult a doctor that specializes in weight issues.

Hmmm, let me see, lost over -160# counting calories, maintaining @ 130# for 30 months, umm, yeah it works fine for me. So yeah, like sucampeN said, BS

Truly, there is no easy way out. But, if you think you are more committed, you may want to rethink this. Many of us have lost a lot (160# in my case) and kept it off, through diet and exercise, with no other aids to help. And it has at the very least extended our lives, if not outright saved our lives. Just saying. There…

Simple, evoo & your choice of vinegar and herbs.

I was wondering the same thing. How many calories were they actually eating and how much exercising. Pretty important part of the study I would think, in order for the information to be useful for publication.

^^Thanks for the site. Also, not enough information re: the article, even though it was lengthy. A lot left out.

You are a true success story! I am positive there are many people here who would love to hear how you have done this for 10 years against all odds. An amazing accomplishment, and you are a hero to everyone that is going through this. It gives us all hope for achieving the same. Looking forward to reading your story. Thank…

WOW! You are gorgeous! Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off!

Lost over 160# in 20 months. Been maintaining @ 130# for 30 months today. Goal is to make to 5 years on maintenance, 1/2 way there. My fitbit & MFP are my two best friends! Kudos to all of you maintainers! You are all rock stars!
-
I am sure it does depend on the person. I lost over 160# in 20 months. Some may find that rapid, but not compared to the biggest losers. Been maintaining for 30 months now. Everything I have read about weight loss says that no matter how the weight is lost, or what kind of program the person was on, over 80% gain all of…

I have been maintaining for 30 months now. I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight. I have to say that, at least for me, it is a lot harder maintaining than losing. While you are losing, it is gratifying to see the losses and smaller size clothing. It is motivating. Now, it is just the commitment to staying at a healthy…

I have had a fitbit for over 3 years. My New Year's resolution for 2014 was to get 20K every day. Accomplished, and have averaged 20K ever since. Highest I have gotten was a 32k three times. Scolaris, kudos to you getting 53K, I know what it would take to do that. I am 64 so I probably will never see that many steps in one…

Define sensibly.

Key to maintaining weight loss, is to not go back to eating more calories than you burn. No matter how you lose the weight, you absolutely can not go back to overeating.
-
Why would they? Volume wise, maybe they get to eat more, but that is because vegetables are low in calories and you can eat a lot of them vs: meat which is more calorie dense per serving.
-
What did this doctor say does work? I am serious about this question. It is not hopeless. A lot of people manage to maintain their losses. I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for over 2 years, and plan to do everything I can to keep it off for ever, if possible, by monitoring myself and keeping…

Permanently? How could they possibly know this? The people have not died. They have not gotten the statistics from the rest of their lives. Nothing is permanent, except death. To lose weight, no matter how you track it, or how long it takes, you have to eat less calories than you burn. The rate of loss, can be different…

Weight loss is about eating less calories than you burn. Simple fact. How you get there is up to you. You can absolutely lose weight by just limiting your calories without any additional exercise. Is it healthier for you to exercise? Absolutely, but not necessary for weight loss. And if you are exercising and losing weight…
-
It is not hopeless, you just have to resign yourself to the fact that you can not eat more calories than you burn as a new way of eating. Simple, but never easy.
-
Biggest loser may not be the best reference, but this is pretty true across the board no matter how the weight is lost. Over 80% of the people that lose weight gain it all back within 5 years. A lot of people gain even more weight back. The statistics are out there. Very few people keep the weight off for over 5 years.…

How does it depend on your age?

She said 2 months, not 2 weeks. Plenty of time to have the dress shortened.

The recipe I make just calls for the canned pumpkin and any flavor cake mix no water. (I use spice cake too) For 18 cupcakes 114 calories.

Why not just wear flats? A lot of women do for their wedding.

The ellipticals at the gym I work out at ask for your age and weight and the calorie burn adjusts accordingly, not gender though. Don't know about your watch, but I have a fitbit and it is pretty close to the elliptical.

I would guess 500 calories burned to be possible in an hour considering her weight and the fact that some of those calories would have been burned doing nothing. OP, do you have a fit bit? If so what kind of stats are you getting on your fitbit? Keep it up! One of my coworkers has one under his desk. He uses it most of the…
