I am 64. I joined MFP 3/12/12 and went on to lose 160 pounds and have been on maintenance for a little over 2 years. Best advice I can give you is keep accurate track of everything you eat and drink, and make sure you are burning more calories than you eat. Eat less calories than you burn. Weigh, measure and log all of…

If there is a full marathon going on at the same time, I would think that even if you have to jog/walk most of the 1/2, you should be able to complete it. Do what you can to train until then, and just do your best, and try not to push yourself too hard. There is always the next race.

Seriously? That is less than 6 weeks. That is a HUGE amount of weight to lose in that short amount of time.

You may not be seeing physical changes in your body, but you are doing your body a big favor by being physically active. Be patient sweet pea, it WILL happen!

Keep telling yourself, every time the urge to eat the food, "I won't do this, because, no matter how much more weight I lose, between now and the prom, I am going to look fantastic, because I am worth this!" You are doing great! Keep on doing what you have done to get yourself to this point.

Also, weight fluctuates from day to day. Sometimes, I am 3 pounds up from the day before. I think it is pretty normal for most people.

I have lost over 1/2 of my current body weight. Began on MFP @ age 60 on 3/12/12 and have kept it off for over 2 years. I don't think it is easy at any age. For many people, it depends on how focused and diligent you are. If I can do this, most anyone can.

Everyday. A piece of dark chocolate.

I go to the gym very early every morning, fasted. I could never make it through the day without eating something after working out, but it definitely is a personal preference situation.

I seldom go to the movies, but when I do, I allow for popcorn, even if I eat nothing else all day. The last movie I went to was Mockingjay Part2 last November. I have plans to go to see The Choice on Saturday..................popcorn, here I come. To me, there is no sense in going to the movies if you can't have popcorn.

^Just quit. Seriously! Trust me, you can lose the weight without smoking. You do not need to smoke to lose weight. I watched my mother die from emphysema, my oldest sister die @ age 54 from lung cancer, both life long smokers. Do not do this to yourself..............please.
-
^^This...............seriously? Ever seen anyone with lung cancer or emphysema or COPD? What do you think putting smoke intentionally into your lungs does to them, not to mention the lungs of the people you subject to 2nd hand smoke. 1 Quit smoking first (or don't start to begin with) 2 Lose weight. In this order.

We live in the country and have a well. It was tested when we bought the house, but I don't know if I trust it. There is a lot of farming run off (both from livestock and from the chemicals put on crops) that goes into the aquifer. I live in Minnesota and we have very hard water, so we have to have a water softener. We…

I guess my body decided for me. I did manage to get down to 125 (for about 2 minutes), but I seem to be able to maintain at 130 pretty easily. It was a real struggle getting to 125 and I could not maintain it. I have been on maintenance for a little over 2 years, and I am kind of happy at this weight. It fluctuates from…

You are the real deal! The epitome of successfully becoming, and more importantly, staying fit. A lot of us can lose the weight, but the vast majority do not keep it off. A real role model to aspire to! Thank you for sharing!

Whenever you will do it. What works best for you is the best time for you.

Do whatever is sustainable for you. If this is your long term plan, go for it. All things in moderation and limiting my calorie consumption works for me. I do not deny myself any food. It worked for me losing over 1/2 of my current body weight, and it has been working for over 2 years on maintenance.;
-
Congratulations! You are in a small group of people that have kept the weight off for over 5 years! Great job! I am @ 2 years, 3 months on maintenance. My goal now is to make it to 5. Your plan is a good one!

Olive oil is a healthy fat. It has calories, so does everything. Many foods that are "good for you" have a lot of calories. A good habit to get into when trying to lose weight is reading labels, before you eat the food, or even purchase it. There are serving sizes on labels, calorie content, and other information to help…

I don't think anyone ever claimed it was a low calorie food. It is a healthy fat, which your body needs. I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is lower calorie, but not a healthy fat. Your choice what you want to use.

It is a healthy oil, and is good for you. All things in moderation.

I am in maintenance. Have been for over two years. When I gain (over 5# fluctuation) I eat less calories until I am back down.

Honest question, if you are eating all of your exercise calories back, how do you calculate for sure how many calories you burned. The exercise machine, my fit bit, and my iphone all come up with different numbers for the calories burned.
-
No, never.

The coldest temperature I went out for a walk in was air temperature-22F with -40F wind chill. I did not walk when it was - 18 F with a -65 F wind chill. The wind is brutal, but if there is no wind, as long as you are dressed for it, it can be invigorating.

Went to the gym for 90 minutes this morning. Home cooked meal. Garden salad, grilled steak, baked sweet potato, glass of wine and mixed berries with coconut milk whipped cream. Indulgence, but within my calorie allotment for the day.
-
I guess you do have to start over from the beginning. You know what works for you so go back to doing what works. Here's what works for me on maintenance. I have to keep logging everything, monitoring weight and stay within a 5# upper limit. If (when) I gain, I cut back on calories until I get back to where I want to…

My motivation is, seeing my name at the top of the list in the gym every month, (for most active members), plus I like having my 10,000 steps in everyday before I get to work. It motivates me to get in there every day. Honestly, that is what keeps me going there every morning. I have only missed one day since I joined the…

Pretty normal if you have a lot to lose. It will slow down. I had a lot to lose, and lost 40 pounds in the first 8 weeks. 140 pounds by 1 year. Weight loss is mostly about eating less calories than you burn. I did not begin to exercise until I had lost 100 pounds. 80% calories deficit, 10% exercise, 10% heredity. Raspberry…
