• "Regular sized meals" are apparently not true serving sizes. The sooner we all realize this, the better for each of us. You have to retrain yourself into knowing true serving sizes. It is definitely an eye opener. Only you can determine what is more important to yourself, and make that a priority. You can still have great…
• I put my bottle in a pan of simmering water until it totally liquefies. Make sure you take the cover off of the jar or bottle while it is in the simmering water.
• ^This. No. Psychologically, there may be a benefit for some people, but logically, there really is no magic cure, or pill. If there were, there would be a lot less overweight people. No matter how a pill is packaged (and some are downright dangerous), or what different diet programs that you may choose, or how you actually…
• Learn moderation. Limit your intake. I quit all sweets the first two months I was on MFP. Then, a thread came up saying to work it in to your calories for the day. I did, and there was no looking back. That was 3-1/2 years ago. Lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have been maintaining for a little over 2 years. I…
• My oldest sister (smoker) got breast cancer at age 38. No history in the family on either side. Double mastectomy. Quit smoking for about 2 months. Fast forward @ age 54 she was diagnosed with lung cancer & brain cancer. Died 6 weeks after diagnosis. Smoking was a contributing factor. Some people just can not change their…
• No.............just no. Don't fall for gimmicks, there really are none. Consume less calories than you burn. Move more. It really works.
• Every day for the past 3-1/2 years I have a piece of Dove dark chocolate caramel with sea salt. Only 38 calories. My daily treat.
• I have had a one, a force, and now a charge hr. I used my one and force together for about 7 weeks. They were never the same # of steps, but really not too far apart. I use my iPhone & charge hr to track my steps now. They're really close in total steps but never exactly the same. The elliptical I use gets a different step…
• ^^Wow, really? MFP is a calorie counting site. Many of us have learned a lot from using this site and are healthier for the experience. Over the past 4 years, I have changed my eating habits, learned appropriate portion sizes, make better choices, and have achieved (hopefully) a sustainable program to keep myself at a…
• It works. Lost over 1/2 of my body weight, and have been sustaining my loss for a little over 2 years. MFP and my fit bit are the two best tools I have for achieving and maintaining my loss.
• ^^I use this machine as well. 60 minutes plus cool down, but I get around 550 calories burned. Depending on where you get the information from, I see anywhere from 300 (probably a little low, but close to accurate) to 700 (very high). Not much of an issue for me though. I just am grateful to being moving more and calorie…
• & sometimes you never really get to enjoy it. I have been doing it every day for the past 3 years, but I honestly can not say that I truly enjoy it. I know I have to do it, and part of the motivation for getting out of bed and going to the gym very early, is because I know I will be done for the day. Plus, I will NEVER go…
• You just have to do it. If it is a priority, you will find a way. I get up very early everyday and go to the gym. I work very long days, and I have a 45 minute commute to work one way. I joined Anytime Fitness, and you would be surprised at the number of people that are in the gym at 3:00 a.m. It is the only time I can do…
• You CAN lose 1 pound in a day, AND you can gain 1 pound, (and even more) these are normal daily fluctuations in weight. Fact. Overeating for one day will not be an issue, unless we let it become a daily habit for an extended period of days, weeks or months. If you go back to eating at a deficit, you will continue to lose.
• Everything I eat. It adds up and can, in the long term, make a difference.
• Doesn't add up. Way high. I get 18-20K per day and do not burn that many calories..............just saying, something is wrong with their figuring. IMHO (fit bit user here)
• ^^This. Eating less calories than I burn. -160# and maintenance a little over 2 years.
• Convenient, but high in sodium. You can make your own when you do have extra time and control what is going into your food a little bit (ie: sodium and sugar) Make your meals and freeze in individual portions. Quick meals at your fingertips.
• It is one day, and will not make much of difference. The problem occurs when we let one meal, one day, one week, drag on for days, weeks, months, years. Enjoy the special occasions and continue with your program the rest of the time. This is, or hopefully, will be a lifetime commitment, and we need to be realistic.
• I eat a waffle at least once a week. Portion control, moderation and not consuming more calories than you burn works with all foods. Eat what you like. For me, it is a lot easier to know I can eat what I enjoy and to maintain this way of eating. I have lost over 160# and been on maintenance for a little over 2 years now.…
• http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/glazed-orange-almond-cookies/60de6c67-0f78-4a90-a0e3-b8a704b9d3b9 I just finished making a double batch of these cookies for a cookie exchange at work tomorrow. They are a little putzy, but a really delicious cookie and very pretty, especially if you like almond flavor. Luckily, I have…
• ^^two thumbs up to this!
• You are correct. I should have said I use fresh ground turkey breast. It definitely depends on what type of ground meat you are using and labels should be read.
• Look at this as a lifestyle change. Just try to make better choices and continue with portion control. A good friend of mine gave me a tip, just try 3 bites. It helps. Remember, the holidays will be over in a month. Not too much damage can be done in a month and even if you do overindulge, just don't let it become a habit…
• Ground turkey really cuts calories. I use it for everything I used ground beef in before and really, no difference in taste.
• Work it into your calories for the day. I have 1 Dove dark chocolate caramel with sea salt Promise as my treat at the end of the day for staying in my calorie allotment. 38 calories. Been doing this for over 3 years now, 2 years on maintenance. Works for me and is a sustainable system for me.
• ^^Great advice. It is one day. Eat it. Enjoy it. Log it. Just don't let it lead to just one more day ( I did that and it turned into decades). Get back to your normal routine on Friday. This is my 4th Thanksgiving on MFP and my 2nd on maintenance. Really, one day will not make a difference, and you have to have a…
• ^^^I mix these in too, and also some sliced raw almonds. I especially love the banana cream and the chocolate raspberry. I will have to try the pancakes. Sounds like a fantastic idea!
• I don't particularly like it either. I joined a gym on 1/25/15. I have gone every day since then, (except 2/2/15 there was a snow storm). Now it is just to keep my record going, hopefully until the end of the year. Keeping my streak going is what gets me up and going to the gym every morning. One hour faithfully every day…
•
I adore all things pumpkin, especially pie. I'm trying to find or create a low cal pumpkin muffin or loaf.
^^ Me too! Pumpkin pie with real whipped cream on top. The best pie ever! Lower calorie pumpkin muffin 1 spice cake mix (or any kind of cake mix you like will work) 1 can of pumpkin. Mix together…
