  • Cheerios, blueberry mini wheats, steel cut oatmeal.
  • Yes, you have to count the calories. Juice has a lot of calories. You would be better off just eating the fruit.
  • George Foreman grill and containers for individual portions. I got a good food scale because of recommendations here, and seldom have used in the 4 years I have had it. I have been cooking for 50 years and am good at estimating and using measuring spoons & cups. I managed to reach my goal and have kept the weight off for…
  • A friend recommended a "three bite" rule for desserts (kind of iffy on logging calories though) I don't really know what you mean by clean. I have been on MFP since 3/2012. After trying low carb (no sweets, desserts, bread etc) for the first 2 months in, I read a topic here on all things in moderation, and ever since then…
  • ^^ this is not true
  • That is a good weight loss. The way you sustain a weight loss, is by not eating more calories than you burn. It has nothing to do with how quickly, or slowly, you lose the weight. I have lost over 1/2 of my current body weight, and have kept it off for almost 32 months by not consuming more calories than I burn.
  • All foods in moderation and portion control.(over 4 years on MFP, lost 1/2 of my current body weight and have been on maintenance for over 2-1/2 years). What will you do when you get to maintenance? You do not need to cut out any foods. All food will lead to weight gain if you consume more calories than you burn. Learn…
  • No. You will be just fine. Go for a walk if you are worried about it, but should be ok. Unless you make it a habit.
  • This is not true. Healthy living does not guarantee that the weight will stay off for decades. Over 80% of the people that lose weight gain it all back (some gain even more than they lost) within 5 years. It does not matter how the weight was lost, "eating healthy" or "unhealthy". Fact is, if you consume more calories than…
  • Actually, not eating more calories than you burn will prevent weight gain, just as eating less calories than you burn will result in weight loss. This is fact. If you overeat, you will gain weight.
  • ^^ Ditto! Roxie Dawn has a good attitude about this. In order for this to be sustainable, why not start out from the beginning with no food restrictions and just eating within your calorie allotment? No transitioning foods back into your diet when you reach maintenance, because you are already eating them. Allow for the…
  • No way. I am on maintenance @ around 1800/day, and get between 20K & 22K per day on my fitbit. I am on the short side though 5'2-3/4".
  • Sautéed chicken with a lot of veggies served in a flatbread wrap. I season it different ways. I could eat it every day.
  • I lost over 1/2 of my current body weight and have kept it off for over 2-1/2 years. I am basically doing the same thing I did while losing, except eating more calories and not overeating. All foods in moderation. Stick to portion sizes. Move more. Watch my weight and don't let it creep up over 5 pounds. What works for one…
  • What motivated you last year? For me, the reward is the weight loss itself. Fitting into normal sized clothes, and feeling so much better. The motivation was/is the end result. I have been maintaining for over 2-1/2 years.
  • You have to do what will work for you and be sustainable. To lose weight, you need to consume less calories than you burn. How you choose to spend those calories is your personal decision. What has worked ( and is working ) for me, is all foods in moderation. I choose not to drink my calories, as chewing gives me much more…
  • Well done! Congratulations to you both! Glad you are enjoying your lives! Fantastic accomplishment!
  • Walking is good exercise. You lose weight by eating less calories than you burn. Staying @ your calorie allotment, is crucial for losing weight. Unless you eat less calories than you burn, you will not lose weight.
  • I just say "No thank you". My calories are pretty much planned out for the day. No guilt on either side.
  • Is this what you plan to do for life? All things in moderation have helped me lose over 1/2 of my current body weight and keep it off for over 2-1/2 years now. No reintroducing any foods, and it is working very well so far. A very sustainable way of eating for me. Carbs are great, as are all foods. Moderation and portion…
  • I kind of think it depends on the individual to do what works best for themselves. I am of the opinion that the nutritionist is wrong. Personally, many days, I do not eat anything until lunch time, and I generally work out every morning, first thing. Not having eaten anything does not seem to bother me at all. I lost a lot…
  • MFP does not recommend eating under 1200 calories/day and will not allow you to access the charts as they will not condone eating too little. 1200 is the minimum amount of calories recommended for women, hence, them "yelling" at you. It will not change as long as you are eating under 1200 calories.
  • I love this recipe for pico too! It is great on top of a grilled chicken breast
  • Sounds ok to me. No bad days, except if you let them become bad months.............years. Move on 300 over is negligible in the scheme of things. If it concerns you, exercise a little more to make up for it, or eat a little less for a couple of days.
  • http://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/basics/adults/index.htm[/quote] I hope you are right. Yes, I try to do both cardio and weights. I walk briskly (sometimes run with intervals) to the gym and once I get there I do some weights. Then I stop at the store nearby, pick up a few things and then walk back. That's usually my…
  • I will be 65 in September. 20-25k/day. Office job, long hours. 45 minute commute 1 way. I go to the gym 1st thing in the morning (very early, before work) always have between 10-11K after the gym. (mostly elliptical, but sometimes treadmill) I get between 5-6K during the time I am at work. I have a desk that raises and I…
  • Best advice I can give you, take it one day at a time. Try not to look too far into the future. Mini goals. Allow yourself to make mistakes, but do not give up because of them. Move on to the next meal or snack and do better. Never give up, and it will happen! It is hard, but you are worth the effort.
  • I am sure there are many people than can succeed long term without the benefit of logging. For me it has to be forever. Statistics show that over 80% of people who lose weight, gain it back within 5 years, and many of these people gain even more weight than they originally lost. There are multiple threads here daily that…
  • Have you got a brown paper lunch bag? 1/4 cup popcorn kernels. Place in bag. Fold over top a couple of times. Microwave for about 3 minutes. Watch closely and listen for kernels to stop popping. (it can burn very quickly) The sky is the limit on toppings. I like: Buffalo wing sauce grated parmesan butter spray and a little…
  • Why wouldn't you count it? Because there are not many calories? The little bites and tastes of things don't have a lot of calories either, but they all add up over the day and could make a difference. I count everything I eat and drink.
