  • I do this, and it works great most of the time. The problem is when I stay at my parents' place. I sometimes rent out my flat on airbnb when they are away, and stay there. Their house have lots and lots of food and always some candy/snacks available. Practically every time I end up binging and hate myself for the next few…
  • If you're eating 1200 calories and not eating back your exercise calories, it's no wonder you're hungry. Your deficit is huge. I eat 1600 a day and always eat my exercise calories back - otherwise I would faint. I don't know how much you burn working out, but given that it's minimum 200 calories, I would safely eat 1400 a…
  • I know they are not entirely accurate, but I was wondering if they don't register calories from dynamic mode given that the treadmill isn't working "normally". Dynamic mode is WAY more exhausting than running regularly, but appear with one third of the calories. I have been starving all day after my workout (even after…
  • I have an office job so I put my activity level to 'sedentary', but looking at my results I am probably lightly active. By calculations I should lose very little weight eating 1600 a day, but when I do that, I lose a lot more. Despite the office job, I am a very fast walker, and since I don't own a car, I walk everywhere.…
  • The short answer is "no" - but I live in Norway. I'd say the main difference is how different countries produce their food and what kind of food they let into their countries. Norway is very strict. When I am in the U.S. I tend to be more careful, simply because there is more crappy food around.
  • For me, I have found that certain "rules" for weight loss simply did not apply to me. "Always eat breakfast" - not necessarily. I go well with just a few nuts and a cup of coffee, and then get a proper lunch. If you're not that hungry, you don't have to eat. Furthermore, what I don't have in the house, I am not going to…
  • What if you're looking to replace fat with muscle? Should I still lose fat first and then build muscle, or do the process at the same time? (Female, 26. 5"9, 134 lbs)
  • I am 26, 5"9 and 136 lbs.
  • I find this a little hard to believe. The variations between countries are more significant than the variations in season. I am from Norway, and like the rest of the Scandinavian countries, it is dark and cold for a large part of the year. And people living here are among the tallest in the world.
  • I'm 5"9. My dad was 6"2 and my mom is 5"8. I am also taller than my older sister, so the firstborn thing is not true for me. I never had junk food growing up. I was a chubby baby and then had a growth spurt around 10-11, when I became long ang lean. Didn't eat anything different, I think in my case it's just genetics.
  • My version of "cheat days" is when I eat up to maintenance. So if my daily burn is 1900, I usually eat 1600 on non-active days, more if I exercise. A cheat day would be an inactive day where I eat up to 1900. I need those occasionally to not go crazy. And it's better then how I used to do it - explode and then eat…
  • That is weird, I have never had that experience nor heard of it. Did you check whether it contains something you are allergic to?
  • Low calorie soups is a good idea. I'll try some of that. I don't have a lot of weight to lose, it's just a couple of 'vanity pounds' and some recomposition or what you call it...maybe that's why I feel like my body is fighting against this.
  • I've heard the rule is that it's okay to work out with symptoms that are over the neck. Personally I wouldn't work out when dizzy. I did a few rounds this winter while I was getting a cold and it definitely took longer to get better :/
  • Thanks! I asked for the small version and the total weight of the salad is 300 g, so I might have to adjust it a bit.
  • It's take away, but I bring it back to the office (for lunch). It's illustrated like that in the photo to show what it's containing, but it's all mixed together when you buy it. I know they weigh some of the ingredients - coincidentally, the high calorie ingredients are also the expensive ones. I ordered the serrano salad…
  • Joining this very late! Dec 15th 1 min basic plank 1 min elbow plank 1 min side plank (right) 1 min side plank (left)
  • Thanks everyone. I do the plank sometimes at the gym, I will start doing it more at home. Absolutely hate push-ups, which is probably why I should start doing it more. And maybe get back on pilates.
  • I realize I may be different here, but for my it is SO much easier to keep within my calories with wine than with other things. First and foremost - I can consume it slowly. Wine has a lot of empty calories, but I take way longer to drink the wine than I would eating the equivalent calories in chocolate. You can enjoy it…

  • Well my goal is both really. But it's hard to know when the weight loss is 'finished' and muscle mass build can begin - if they are two completely different processes.
  • I'd say walking makes the biggest difference for me. I go to Barry's Bootcamp a couple of days a week but the biggest difference is that I don't own a car and walk everywhere. I never log walking so it's just 'extra' calories burned and I'm so used to it I don't think about it.
  • Yes I was thinking that, though sometimes I am hungry at 1800 as well... I eat a lot of eggs, lean pork, chicken, avocado, beans. And I like carrots, onions and broccoli. Trying to eat more seafood, it's just very expensive here. Any suggestions for other foods that really fill you up?
  • 130 pounds
  • Okay, I am talking about actual liquid fish oil, the type that is squeezed out of fish, that's what I mean by 'supplement'. Are you talking about pills / capsules? Because you have little control of what those contain. Furthermore - I was not talking specifically of heart attack and stroke (like the article), but generally…
  • Which myth exactly do you mean is 'debunked' - the fact that pure fish oil contain omega-3 and vitamin D, or the fact that those nutrients have a positive effect on you? I use a Norwegian brand that I know is certified.
  • I eat a lot of eggs, avocado and lean meat. I'll allow myself some little things though to not go crazy but I get quite a bit protein and healthy fats. I'm wondering if I should think about calories more than overall health. For example, I take a tablespoon of fish oil each morning - for skin, hair and health - and I have…
  • It's not really a logging problem. The problem is I find it impossible to stick to 1500 - and even at 1700 I am very hungry. So I have been eating up to 2000 lately (which is merely maintenance).
  • I eat bacon and eggs fairly often. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they're "so sick of that combo". I also eat similar things for dinner very often - it's a piece of meat with a vegetable mash. I just vary the vegetables to get different nutrients - carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, beets etc.
  • I usually trust it, but I try to leave a little wiggle room. I make most of my diet natural foods anyway, and there is not much variation in the calories in "raw carrot"... Recently there was a producer of yogurt (here in Norway) who made a statement that they unfortunately put the wrong numbers on the label, and the…
