Goal weights are arbitrary and the closer you get towards it the more you should know if it is a reasonable number (high or low). What good is a goal weight that you cannot maintain long term and feel good about?

I used to curse my fitbit for such low calorie burn estimates, but I think it is right. I don't use the MFP to post any exercise because it seems way too high. At best any source is a shot in the dark because of so many factors.

RGv2 With all due respect, you are out of line. I specifically told the OP to consult with a doctor / dietician to determine an optimal plan. That's the best advice anyone can give anybody else on this site. Medical weight loss is typically less than 800 calories, monitored by a licensed dietician or doctor - people on…

I love hummus but it is not even an option on my diet. It's definitely a treat - but I look at it the way I look at a whole range of foods that I'm foregoing to get into shape.

Really increase your water drinking - add some fiber (even if it is the kind in a jar) - also try doing longer cardio, not faster. If your body is thinking it needs to build strength, its going to hold some energy for that purpose. Changing it up and going for endurance - along with the water and fiber may kick your body…

Try increasing your next day's exercise to offset the food increase. Don't go faster, but longer - and youi'll get a double benefit. Like my old coach said, walk it off.

I don't know if you are working with a dietician or a doctor, but if you are going to severely restrict your calories - you should. That person would also give you a realistic expectation of the first few days and weeks of your plan - and likely be tweaking your nutrition to match your fitness plan. As far as 1,000…

Weight is just one metric. Those of us with the most to lose get more weight loss, but as a percentage of total weight it is humbling. The closer you are to your body's theoretical proper weight, the marginal weight loss is harder. However, measuring your body, judging your emotional well being and overall just having a…

Your stomach pouch will be tough to lose quickly given what you've already said without incorporating some weight training. The benefit of weight training is that it increases the body's natural burn, and overall good tone is good for you. While some of the posters here are all into physique building, that's not what they…

I'd check your calorie composition, maybe slow down (same time, fewer miles) your workouts (to slow muscle growth but burn more fat) and maybe cut back on the calories to give your body a rest. Eliminate the inefficient foods (non nutrient dense) increase your water intake and see what that does for you.

If I had a single suggestion, it would be to start walking every day (whenever you pick). Don't go for speed, just give yourself the time to walk and keep your body moving. Don't let it be stressful (which some workouts can be). I think that will help your body adjust to the drop off in intensity and keep you feeling good.…

I've been battling depression for years. My hormones were / are all screwed up and I was prescribed significant amounts of testosterone to get me "normal" - well most of that turned into Estrodol and I gained a ton of weight. That on top of a whack-a-mole strategy of anti-anxiety medications just plummeted my metabolism…

I think that one of the best ways to combat cravings is to understand whether your body needs fuel or you want a treat. I have acquired that skill - and think it is built into our bodies/brains - but it takes some people more time to figure it out. In the meantime, give your body more fuel with fewer calories - go more…

Biologically there is some evidence that lying down can affect digestion in a relatively tight number of hours. And there is also research that biasing calories in the morning is more effective than the other way around. But I think many people that are eating late are just snaking and that is causing additional calories…

Plateaus are your body resetting itself. It's natural and part of its survival mechanism. Just happens. Don't do anything different unless you don't trust your diet to begin with. I am in a 3,000 calorie deficit daily and I have days where noting happens. I hate it too, but I feel good every day and sometimes that's good…

A few years ago I went on a optifast diet. It worked well, tasted good and definitely dropped the lbs. HOWEVER I don't think it helped me live a healthy lifestyle and made me dependent on the shakes. Such that every time I wanted to lose weight, I felt I needed to go back on the optifast. I decided that I needed to stop…

There is only one best diet - but for each of us it is different. Of course we long term gain weight when we eat more than we expend and lose weight when we do the reverse - for some it comes on and off fast - for others it takes some time. When it comes to a specific balance of carbs, fats and protein - as long as you are…

Your body is a complex machine / computer. It has a baseline and it takes 3 months for that baseline to start engaging and even longer for that new baseline to become relatively consistent. If you can lose the 10 pounds - lose it. But keep focused for a full season on holding that weight or even going a few pounds lower so…

The level that nobody cares about anything other than themselves is pretty significant. Typically when someone does actually "care" about another, it is in a compassionate way. At least if they are an adult - we'll leave kids out of this conversation. Have fun - feel good - and remember that when you judge others less,…

I'm 285 and only eating 700 calories a day - every day. I track every nutrient I eat because at such a small amount of food, I need to be efficient. Your body is a very complex computer / machine. It takes about 3 months for it to believe that anything you are doing is somewhat lasting and years for it not to reset to its…

I hate measuring. My body is still transforming and because of some hormonal imbalances I am carrying most of my weight like a tube around my waist. My first 20 pounds all came from my chest and face (it seams). My waist is holding out - fighting the good fight. If it's got my my spirit, it will fight to the very end. It's…

I don't read diet books - but I read the labels of food. I am a proteinaholic. My body craves it and I feel better when it is the majority of my calories. It's who I am and not something that I adapted because of a book. Other people have different nutritional needs and I would never ever tell another person what is best…

Organic doesn't mean low mercury. And outside of certain fish and shellfish, the mercury levels in most food is not even a concern for pregnant women. I buy organically that taste better, so I'm not anti organic. But mercury poisoning in chickens is a bit of a stretch and can as likely happen to organic farmers as mercury…

I'm not following any Atkins regimen, but I am on a ultra low carb / high protein diet at a very low calorie level. First I have known for some time that I am protein biased (my body craves protein, not carbs). I don't have much of a sweet tooth and if I had to choose between an extra portion of steak or dessert, I would…

Thanks! It's sad but I am almost hoping there was a small and easily removable tumor around the pituitary that is causing this. I listen to the radio and it seems everybody is slinging testosterone. It's frustrating when you are taking the maxium dosage your doctor is comfortable with (and I'm comfortable with) and getting…
