If you're like me you start eating a lot of the same things every day to make it easier to manage the calories and stick with what works - when I plateaued a while ago I changed some of the foods I was eating and the numbers started dropping again - lately some dense complex carbs and a lot more fruit and raw veg seemed to…

It does seem like it is mostly about food to me - changing from eating for pleasure to eating for good health.

I don't think you have any choice but to get your food intake in line with where you want to be otherwise it would seem to be inevitable you will gain the weight back anyways.

I hate wearing anything other than Saucony's but I do have a bit of a beef with how fast the soles wear out leaving me walking on half foam, half rubber. Has anyone found a brand that is otherwise similar but more durable?

If you're not sure - you could just try logging your calories anyway even if you aren't dieting yet. I'd be really surprised if when you start having to look at what exactly you're eating and how the calories add up that you won't be spontaneously motivated to start changing your eating habits. I force myself to log my bad…

Gym-schmim, do your strength training at home. Bodyweight exercises, a pullup bar and some dumbells are more than you really need.

Weird. Either there's a miscalculation somewhere or the OP ought to have lost close to 15 lbs by now. Even though no much weight loss, do your clothes fit significantly different? (Longshot but some people gain muscle easily, esp at first). FWIW, IMHO, etc. less is more on the weight training IMO. Simplify your routine and…

"For Dr Lucan and his fellow researcher James DiNicolantonio, rather than simply counting calories to help dieting, we should be looking at the type of food we are eating." Real ground breaking stuff there! /sarcasm

Just keep it going in the right direction - I really really doubt you need to worry about losing muscle - I've never been anywhere near you size but I've tried to lose my extra 40lbs unsuccessfully a few times and in hindsight I always let myself get caught up in that worry about muscle and sabatoged my weight loss -…

Not sure why I read thru all that - there's a lot of good things to be learned from reading all the different stuff on these forums but all mixed in with a lot of judgemental know it alls - I gots no opinions to push on you - just keep hanging in there and be proud of what you've accomplished - OK, I'll mention one thing…

Whoa, what happened here? Thanks for the responses (most of them anyways). Food for thought. The only one that has me worried is the batteries one - the scale probably does need new batteries, I knew it was too good to be true!

You're doing awesome! Just keep it going in the right direction and do whatever is sustainable in the long run. Don't obsess, just enjoy being healthier and keeping it that way.

I use the same phone and app and really like both for helping me be mindful to keep my activity level up which is mainly through walking - that said I don't entirely trust the calorie burned calcs so I don't add back any calories burned and just let MFP deduct for my preset activity level. I have MFP set for moderately…

You can't eat good food unless you make a point of having it around. I like to buy a load of chicken breasts when ever I see them on sale and then BBQ or roast a dozen at a time and then put them in individual ziploc bags in the freezer. I then alway keep one thawed in the fridge and replace it with a frozen one whenever I…

I'm no expert, but I'd be curious about what you do for exercise. I love the pedometer app on my phone making sure I get lots of steps in per day. I understand that 10,000 steps per day is good goal for someone who's not otherwise big on exercising and workouts.

Some people are like that and seem to do just fine. Food is just fuel, fill up when necessary just like your car. You're aware of it, so no worries.

Unrealistic expectations maybe? Just be healthy and happy and quit staring in the mirror. I've known too many people that got obsessive when they got *too* into fitness and body building. I've even gone down that road a bit myself and crashed/burned and totally regressed. This time around I'm just taking it easy and…

Thanks for this post. We've all seen something like this going on, but this explains it and confirms (phew) that that "bounce-back" is nothing to worry about.

Thanks Yup!
