We just make "regular" dinner for the family. But, it's food that fits into my diet (i.e. there's vegetables, protein, etc) and then I control the portions for myself. After all, shouldn't the kids be learning to eat those same kinds of healthy dinners? And yes, sometimes, we do have less healthful meals, but not too…

Niacin is one of the B-vitamins. It is found readily in whole grains, enriched white flour products, and multivitamins. I don't see how taking extra would be beneficial, barring some sort of medical issue. (And I've never before heard of it increasing good cholesterol. Proper overall diet and exercise will do that,…

It usually takes around 6 weeks to fully recover from giving birth. I know that, with most of mine, at 2.5 weeks, even just doing too much around the house would cause bleeding to increase (not a good sign). Take this time to rest, let your body heal, and bond with your little one. I probably wouldn't even eat at more than…

If, at 4 weeks PP, you have a total of 30 pounds to lose (20 of that to get to pre-pregnancy), you probably gained about the right amount of weight. Growing a baby is a total change for your body, so give yourself time to get back into your pre pregnancy shape. You should wait until your 6 week checkup before you start…

Learned something today! Thanks to @ninerbuff and @SideSteel (and others). My squat form has been okay, but I'm working on teaching my teenagers lift, and it's good to know what to watch for and what is okay.

I *know* I am well beyond the newbie gains... even discounting everything before, I have been lifting for about a year with some degree of regularity. I saw the big jumps at first, I was up to and then surpassing my pre-pregnancy lifts within a month or two (I had to stop working out during pregnancy due to ligament…

I don't usually do the protein shake. I have some powder here for when I feel like I'm not going to hit my protein goal (but I haven't paid as much attention to that lately as I should). In general, though, I get close to enough protein from food. I do keep bars around for when I need a quick snack (I like to keep one with…

You know, this may actually be the problem. Being too restrictive can, for many people, lead to poor adherence. OP, maybe try an approach for the long term. Start by setting MFP to lose .5 or 1 pound a week. Be careful with your logging to make sure it's accurate. Within those calories, try to get a good variety of…

Yeah, sometimes we get carried away. Not your fault at all. I agree with PeachyCarol above. Best of luck.

Thank you for reminding us. I agree.

OK, then, how do you determine "last resort"? You said when there is clear and present danger. But what if you've tried everything else and it hasn't worked. Are we to last resort yet? Also, I'm noticing you keep referring to what is proven and not. Vit D works if there is a deficiency (but not if the depression is caused…

This exactly. Thank you.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to argue at this point. You've stated (through this thread) that medication for mental illness is not ideal, that mental illness isn't a medical problem, etc. It sounds like you're just trying to tell OP and anyone else with some sort of mental disorder to "suck it up and get over it."…

No. They are looking at multiple neurotransmitters. SSRIs aren't the only type of medication used to treat depression or anxiety. And serotonin isn't even implicated in some of the other psychiatric conditions. Professionals recognize that there a multitude of factors, including environment and genetic factors. Genetic…

I can't even ... Well, it's good to know that it's all in my head (pun intended).

As someone who deals with both asthma AND depression/anxiety ... yes, yes you can compare them. I treat asthma with exercise, diet modification, and a rescue inhaler. When things are the worst (i.e., increase in environmental pollutants and/or allergens) I take a daily medication as well. Sometimes, that means a daily…

I love pumpkin  but I've never tried shoo fly or mincemeat. Hmmm, may have to look into some of these new ones for Christmas, lol

I like Chobani. I do like that they use evaporated can juice (I know, it's still just sugar) rather than HCFS -- but that's the taste. I also like that they have five species of live and active cultures. But overall, it's the taste and texture for me. One thing I did when I started buying greek yogurt was to look at the…

It's so hard to chose my favorite. I love pecan pie if it's made well (I've had some that is iffy). I love blueberry pie when it's made with blueberries (can you believe that some is made with colored/flavored apple bits and a small amount of blueberries?). Pumpkin. Strawberry. Coconut. Chocolate. All the pies!!!!

I don't think I've posted this yet: On Thanksgiving, my SIL invited my to go to a charity workout event at her gym. It was 75 minutes of zumba-type aerobics. I was able to complete the whole thing (although there were some modifications I made to a few of the things). It felt good to keep with it

Different strategies work for different people here, too. Many people do great weighing just weekly. They avoid the frustration of daily ups and downs. For others (like me) it's better to weigh daily. Just realize that there is still a good deal of fluctuation from day to day. Watch for the trends. For example, I've…

I agree with cutting back on the sweetener in your coffee. Like @rabbitjb I used to drink herb tea with all sorts of sugar, honey, etc ... until I stopped. Now I realize that all I was tasting was the sugar, but now I'm actually tasting the drink. And when I starting drinking coffee, I went with just black. It is a bit of…

A digital food scale might be a good (and quite small) investment, too!

When you increase your water intake, it can cause you to urinate more frequently for a while. And, they say the first swoosh of lost weight is often mostly water, so I can assume it'd cause more trips to the lavatory for that. As far as diarrhea, how have you changed your diet? Less sugar but more fiber? Change in…

You can log it as a food. Look in the database for breastfeeding ... there's a bunch of entries, and they give you "negative" calories. (Just remember to fill most of those calories with nutrient dense foods and a good balance of macros, your baby needs that  ) Or you can set MFP to maintain and not log the…

I'm on my second Mirena. I didn't notice any extra gain due to either, and have been losing just fine. (I gained about 20 pounds over 9 months after getting my first one out! LOL) I love it!

Unless you are significantly overweight, plan on gaining weight while pregnant. A lot of that gain is baby, fluids, increased blood, placenta, etc, but some of it will be fat stores - that helps the body ensure that it will be able to provide milk after baby. As far as lifting, as long as you have been doing it for a while…

I don't know what the different names mean in the UK (assuming, since you talk about pounds for money), but in the US, a nutritionist doesn't require much training, just a certificate. You would do better with a registered dietician if you need help with knowing what foods to focus on. They have a lot more education in…

It's time to watch this again. Been too long.
