Having a cheat meal on occasion is not bad. Especially if that is making it psychologically easier to adhere to the fat loss journey long term. However, using the "cheat" meal/day/whatever time frame, as an excuse to go black and white, thinking you already started cheating so might as well CONTINUE CHEATING...is…

Last week strength class left me sore with DOMS for 3-4 days. This week I'm sore but not as bad:) I also put in 1 hr spinning on top of the 1 hr strength class. Yday walked ca 18 000 steps and 14 km (8,7 miles). Bathed in the river on the way home. Today did 90 mins bodyweight-focused yoga. Haven't done so much of the…

Agree. When I stuff myself consistently over several days...I can eat a bit more every day. A fast resets that «hunger» cue for me and feel quite ok and content on more normal levels of eating.

I disagree. Although I agree that food macros make a hormonal impact. This is something one can change, that is within reach. Blaming the substance of abuse isn't improving anyone's life. The abuse itself still wrecks havoc. And I'd politely disagree that abuse IS an emotional response whether it has a physical…

I think a lot of the disagreement concerning this topic is because the word addiction is interpreted as something extremely compulsive, almost involuntary, enslaved, which is based mostly on a subjective experience. From my view across the pond, americans of the USA are very quick to politicize words...making them more…

Don't feel bad. Something is better than nothing. Creating new habits takes time and effort. I'm proponent of «sneak'em in» rather than «power through». YMMV.

Hello all! and welcome all newcomers or restarters too :) Everyone is welcome to post. Don't feel shy, hehe. I haven't been posting in this group for a while because I have not been a poster child for semi-fasting. Mostly due to being able to maintain easily with the daily eating window 16:8 style. My main goal is to keep…

Yes, the instructor at the human anatomy and exercise physiology course last year said that weight bearing exercise such as heavy lifting, running, walking...anything that makes the bones "work harder" or being a bit compressed... is part of the bone density equation as getting older. I live in a country among the top in…

Hey Dan. I know you mean well. But you're behaving a bit egocentric, judgementental and ignorant on this issue. You've said on another occasion that you're the tough love guy, so I assume you can handle it back. Just because YOU don't like exercise (egocentric), it's meaningless to you. But YOU don't understand that it may…

I love that show!...You're such a trooper :) Week 1 report: I have successfully done a strength class today, plus 1 hour spinning. Did NOT feel like doing it this morning, but I said to myself: "I'm gonna feel so good after!"...Yep. Have done my other sessions as well this week, including 2 hrs hike in the woods yesterday…

It's been a while now, since trying to lower carbs to heal inflammation. But last fall I did the following for whoosh: 6 days/week low carb calorie cycling including 2 semi fasts/week. 1 refeed with both bump up in carbs and calories on the day of hardest workout to offset carb intake. This was surefire scale movement for…

Para sympathetic nervous system regulates metabolism. Spiking calories for a short period, relaxes the body when high deficit for long time. This is why stressing out over everything is counterproductive to fat loss.

I make keto friendly ice cream.

I've read somewhere that if you have NAFLD, Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, it could take some time reducing visceral fat/increase liver function before the body starts working on adipose tissue. Not sure about this, though. The liver is possibly the body's most underrated organ, since it is the metabolic general that…

Learning from the July Fasting challenge, that I usually don't do well on very high ambitions, my babysteps are fairly low for this one. It's better for me to not expect anything, then be happy when I surprise myself of doing more than I set out to do. What is your current exercise level/program? Current regime is 1-2…

Confession. I have not been a poster child for IF during this challenge. It seems to me that I do better when I don't have to do something. Maybe it's my stubborn inner child, who knows. I do better when I put a very loose target of what I want to achieve or test and do what falls naturally into that. It's very…

Ty for sharing this. I ballooned up after being put on Prednisone during autoimmune attack, even when eating 1200 net kcal/day. Took a complete rehaul of diet to start repair metabolism. It was unfortunate timing, but I believe Prednisone worsened the situation.

Calories do count, but maybe not in the traditional CICO sense. From what I understood about nutrition, the homeostasis the body likes best is achieved with a balanced nutrition. If you give the body the nutrition it needs to function properly, MOST people, will naturally maintain at satiety level. If you're not giving it…

I'm trying to increase strength, neuro-muscular recruitment. I'm still so weak in upper body. Bought hand grippers yday, cause I wanna work up to do Hanging Leg Raises, Human Flag and lift properly etc later on. So I'm doing "Grease the Groove" method advocated by Tsatsouline. It's tensing grip, abs and glutes max 5x with…

Omg. From the article: I can't do ANY of that! Rofl, good shares in this thread of all the oldies spanking my butt fitness wise :)

There was a thread on hair loss on r/keto recently. Someone said deficiency in iron and biotin. DON'T overdo ! When I switched to low-carb, my hair got a lot better. But I'm not sure if it was because I got more on top on supplements, the macro change itself or that I started eating LOTS of pork rinds. Maybe a bit of…

Now, that's what I call persuasiveness :D From everything I read so far about health, aging etc. Loss of muscle mass, ie. not using the muscle we have, seems closely related to most of the detrimental effects of ageing: Less functioning glucose metabolism, beta cell dysfunction, insulin resistance. Anecdotal: Someone's…

When you're doing «Negative Automatic Self Talk», (only lacks the Y for NASTY) try catch yourself doing it and stop. Examine the validity of those feelings. Are there other alternative explanations that could possibly be true ? As you mentioned, whose «voice» is talking to you? Maybe it's someone you grew up with or had a…

Depending on what you want it for. I really, really love the german Woll Titanium series with detachable handles. I brown chicken thighs in the big sautépan first. Take out the meat, make a classic tomato sauce with some additional vegs like onions, and capers. Preheat the oven. Submerge the thighs halfway down into the…

I get ammonia smells when training HARD. Like above 88% HR. So I get smelly when doing HIT sprinting. Hasn't harmed me yet. No organ failure here. I notice this smell sometimes in the weight room too, even in AC gym. Which would contradict the theory in the BB article. Or did those muscle men suddenly turn into glycogen…

My new fav «dessert» is 100g frozen raspberries (thawed) 50g lactosefree yoghurt naturelle 15g hazel nuts some vanilla optional sugar free sweetener This is roughly 150 kcal, small enough to fit in, yet still gives a dessert-y vibe :)

I've maintained weight since January. Down about 2 sizes on the way. Still about 3 lbs from «goal weight», but that's just vanity pounds. I continued this phase with as many experiments as during losing phase. Trying dfferent carb levels and types, while keeping FA. Upping calories! Cycling levels works best for me.…

There was a rant here. I'm sorry deleted.

It works very well for me. Down about 2 sizes from euro 38 to 34. Upped calories considerably, IF and fasted training whenever I feel like it. YMMV. Edit: Forgot to say, maintained scale weight since January (within normal fluctuations). So it's in effect a "recomp".

I think it depends on individual and lifestyle choices. I do IF and often fasted training. Because of this I have to supply with more electrolytes. Less cramping, less fatigue feeling. I eat as much salt as possible when breaking fast too. YMMV. Listen to body.
