I would try avoid a carb refeed until you're adapted. It's easier when you've established a baseline. I think that if someone has high degree of insulin resistance (IR), then refeed are best to avoid altogether. But if you know you're more insulin sensitive, there's bigger leeway. I've experimented a lot to test where the…

I dunno what that grass is. Now I'd like to try it too, lol. Patrick and Rogan talked about which specific weed the animals hunted. I'm sorry I don't remember which of the 4 episodes the topic was featured. Re dogs and bacterial transfer. I recently watched a documentary about MRSA. They recommended to avoid letting the…

At 5"4 and 119 lbs you're already at the lower end of healthy bmi. Which means that it get's increasingly harder to shed more real fat loss. In your situation it is often recommended to focus more on fitness goals and/or recomposition. At your level of slim, overfocusing on losing scale weight also increases the chance of…

Re your dog and grass. In one of the episodes with Rhonda Patrick on Joe Rogan Experience, they talked about animals feeding on special grass types. Apparently they get high from the grass. So maybe you're dog is an addict ? ;)

@V_Keto_V . Can you please explain more what the conclusions were for us less scholarly inclined ? I'm also wondering what the different bacterias mentioned in your OP actually do? or is that still part of the emerging field? Personally I believe in the microbiome theory. It would conveniently explain some of the gaps. The…

Taking deep breaths out, emptying the lungs slowly signals to the body to go into resting state. I'm a bit sceptical to the claim that only 3 breaths will reduce cortisol by 30-40%, though. But I agree it's one of the methods that are the easiest to implement in a world where we often feel as if spinning a hamster wheel.…

But "most" people, medical conditions not included, go into ketosis every night during the later phases of sleep. That's probably why most people lose most of their stored fat while sleeping. Can't eat when sleeping ;) Which would imply that whether someone is vehemently pro CICO as a theory or against lowcarb...they still…

Great tip! ty for sharing. I usually buy the already roasted ones, but don't trust the oil use.

Actually, I've upped the brazil nuts to 2/day lately, cause my ex gave me a huge bag as a bribe. I didn't think of it before you said nails and strength. Mine have indeed become much stronger past weeks. The RDA is covered by 1 nut. So YMMV.

This. The body can't store protein. BUT, the level of protein needs are highly individual AND it can fluctuate a lot for each individual as well. Trial and error.

"For those with abnormal appestat function not corrected by carbohydrate restriction, it may be necessary initially not to eat too much fat and to focus more on increasing protein intake and eating less frequently by practising some degree of intermittent fasting." ....that pretty much sums up what I have to do to lose…

It was me who mentioned the reduced hair loss when lowcarbing. Apparently I was malnourished when eating a carb heavy diet of 1200 kcal/day. Weak nails too. When I changed to higher fat and protein, I started having a bag of pork rinds a day. Sometimes even two. (oops, or four). 1 bag is 90 g here. Pork rinds is mainly…

But his post is targeted towards people who seem to believe the more insulin, the more muscles you get. I'm not sure how the Maillard effect is impacted with lower carb or keto. My guess is that since mitochondria really likes to be burning fat rather than glucose for fuel, less waste, more ATP etc...There could possibly…

Fat is an essential building block for the body to produce testosterone. Yes, women need it too for higher sex drive ;)
-
Agree with @kirkor. Just try it out :) Then adjust or experiment as needed. When it comes to details, we're all very individual. But I think you'll be OK. The main thing with IF is to let the tummy rest for longer from digesting. Especially if you're interested in the part that's about autophagy. Broth is considered Ok…

Some women get bigger hormonal changes with IF, some don't. Some women do 14:10 for this reason. I'd say that's literally eating too much into the fasting window. Fasting is not for everyone and it can take time to adjust to it, just like keto. Trial and error. I have very good results with lowcarb and IF. There's a great…

Well, it was a study of starvation, then catabolism of all tissues will occur at some point during a prolonged starvation. Intermittent fasting is something else, IMO. I take great care to get enough protein. You can't really compare the two. I don't know how they measured the loss of muscle fiber in the Cahill study.…
-
@wabmester. I love you, man, but I wonder on what basis you're so convinced fasting is catabolic for muscle fibers? Phinney didn't "debunk" Fung in that video. He merely said he disagreed on the conclusion. I didn't see any citation on the data. Do you know which study he refers to? Anyway. It's ok if we disagree on the…

The more I hear about WW it sounds like a borderline scam based on part total ignorance of human metabolism and blind belief in official recommendations. This proprietary points system is like tricking people into Pavlovian mind games. That Oprah bought into this is a true shame. I really thought she was smarter than that.
-
It matters type of carb. The body doesn't care about nutrition labels on a package that may or may not be accurate for your food item. The body only cares about how that food item is interpreted in the liver according to that individual's biochem. @wabmester explained it more succinctly than me. Popcorn is a lot of…

Yeah, I've always wondered about sweeteners and their capacity to make less fullness. Drink 1 bottle of water and I feel full pretty fast. Drink 1 bottle of diet soda and I don't feel full the same way. Moreover, I get snacky or wanna eat more after a short while. This is my experience and it may not apply for other people.

What are your stats and goals? If increased satiety is the only variable, then upping the sat fats will help. I often drink 1-2 tbs of olive oil... Re libido. Fats are important Lego blocks for many hormones, including testosterone. BHB ketones are appetite reducing, according to Rhonda Patrick. I'm afraid that if you want…

I'm here for you as well! You know I've experimented a lot, feel free to peep at my diary for fall 2014, winter 2015. I agree with most of the carbs from vegs. I think the best level for me was somewhere around 70g net. YMMV. The slow carb protocol could fit your current experiment.…

Try a couple of tablespoons olive oil? More dietary fat helps move stuff along too ;) Personally, I like psyllium fiberhusk as well. But we're all different and all that jazz. So YMMV. I'm someone prone to constipation. Too much protein does it, especially red meats for some odd reason.

Ty for the very informative post! So you're saying that glycine helps mitigate or reduce the effect of excited aminos ? Or did I completely miss the mark, lol. Interesting about the possible connection to Alzheimers. Oooo, I got a lot more learning to do:smile: Ty everybody else also sharing their thoughts!
-
We're all different with our own sets of idiosyncrasies and lopsidedness  It means that we can only share our experiences, getting inspired. Maybe something that worked for someone else works for myself? But it might not. It's worth a try if you have a hard time losing and all the standard approaches haven't worked.…

@Kirkor. I have 1 brazil nut for selenium. The others I supplemented, calories in semi fasts are kinda low. But I kept within RDA on each package. I'm gonna try that list again with my current protocols and see if any difference. Oh, the 1 kg loss/week was a cumulative result of a lot of effort. 5:2,16:8, lowcarb,…

Exercise helps reduce glycogen. But if you ate carbs on Fri and ran Sat, it's too late to avoid the insulin spike. If you're insulin sensitive in all tissues, then that might not be a problem. But if you're bordering pre diabetes or have DM, using exercise to regulate blood sugar must be done pretty much right away after…

Oh, I'm from Europe. So it's a local brand. No fillers.

Glad to help and ty you both for the compliments :) I'll add that the list of fat loss micros is not something I've read anywhere. I compiled the list by being curious and researching when something looked promising. And voilà. Some of them like chromium are ingredients in all "fat loss" supplements. Thyrosine I picked up…
