  • Seriously, who cares what someone else uses for a profile pic? Unless I'm planning on dating the person I met online, and they don't tell me it's a fake pic, what does it matter to me if someone wants to use a fake pic for their profile? Some people use fake pics as a means of keeping anonymity online. And if someone uses…
  • I'm hypo, too, and here's what worked for me: I got off the Synthroid and started taking dessicated thyroid. My endocrinologist didn't want to put me on dessicated thyroid for some reason, even though I made it clear to him that the Synthroid/T3 meds weren't working for me. So, I found an Integrative Medical Center, where…
  • There is no need to resist temptation, if you're able to moderate your portions. I lost 38 pounds, working occasional (like once a week) treats into my diet. On special occasions (like birthdays or holidays), I just said, "Screw the diet for this meal," and overindulged. One meal every few months isn't going to kill your…
  • My BMI is slightly less than 23, which falls in the normal range, but I think BMI is a lousy indicator for 'healthy'. I know people who are muscular and whose BMI falls in the overweight range, but they are by no means overweight. I knew when I was ready to start maintaining when I fit into my jeans from college again.…
  • I've actually binged on broccoli, lol. I seriously sat and ate an entire pound of broccoli florets in half an hour a few months ago. I ate until I was stuffed, so I know I overate. The 'damage', however, was only 160 calories. It's not about eating until your body's natural instinct tells you to stop. It's about making the…
  • I pasted your ingredients into MFP's recipe doohickey and estimated 10, 2 cup servings (based on the water content; 5 quarts = 20 cups = 10, 2 cup servings). I got 67 calories per serving. It's still crazy low in calories, though, so enjoy!
  • In the past couple of years, I've gone from drinking Diet Coke all day, every day to drinking it only occasionally. By 'occasionally', I mean about once a week. (My husband and I do Takeout Tuesdays.) I did this, not for my health, but for my budget, lol. The cost of 5 tea bags is so much more affordable than the cost of 5…
  • Personally, I'd eat about half those calories back. I'm currently on maintenance, and I still only eat half my exercise calories. I've learned in the past year that all those calorie counter devices (FitBit, Endomondo, Heart, etc.) aren't perfectly accurate. And, honestly, the TDEE on MFP isn't perfectly accurate, either.…
  • 5'1", 125# I *think* I'm large framed, though I can squeeze my middle finger and thumb together above my wrist bone if I squeeze hard. So, I don't know. I wear a size 6, unless it's vanity sized, then I could be a -14. :p
  • It took me a long time to get over weighing myself daily. I'm actually glad I did, though, when I first started maintaining. It turned out that 1600 calories a day was too much for me. After a little adjustment, I hit on the right number of calories for me to shoot for. I hardly ever weigh myself anymore, though. Once I…
  • This. Actually, the title of your post reminded me of a Veggie Tales song: His Cheeseburger.
  • I am very impressed. And I know exactly what you mean. MFP is great for keeping you on track. Even AFTER you reach your goal.
  • I think you just said it best. I often have protein shakes, on days when I am just not getting enough protein. I drink Met RX Protein Plus with milk. You can get 32 scoops for about $37 at Wal-Mart, less than $1.20 per scoop. I only drink one scoop per serving, which is about 23 grams of protein and 100 calories. It was…
  • Anytime you restrict your calories, you're going to lose weight. That's just basic science. You don't need a magic drink for that. Just eat lean proteins, lots of vegetables, and exercise. I just checked their prices, though. Ten oatmeal raisin bars for $14? Fourteen vanilla shakes for $66? I sense a scam to separate…
  • This is exactly why. I can understand not being aware of that, though, so your question is a good one. It's just helpful for those of us who exercise (my husband doesn't, the bum) to make sure that we're getting enough fuel. And also to know when you can have a cookie at the end of the day or when you need to spend half an…
  • I think we all adjust our goal as we get closer to the weight we're happy at. For me, it was realizing that I'm happier at 120-125# than my original 130# goal. That came with the realization that I just was NOT going to be able to build the kind of muscle I used to be able to build by lifting. (I have some orthopedic…
  • I am a big-time boredom eater. My advice is to get a hobby and a Kindle, lol. For me, sewing and reading are a big help to avoid overeating. In the past year, I've sewing numerous dresses for myself and my daughters and discovered new authors to fall in love with. And I've dropped 39 pounds, too.
  • YES! Sometimes, I spend an hour on my treadmill just for Pop Tarts that night, lol. Okay, not sometimes. Often. :D
  • I can't remember how long I've been maintaining, but probably around 6 months. I still log my calories, something I think I'll be doing for the rest of my life. Being on maintenance is easier than losing for me, because I don't feel like beating myself up if I choose to indulge once in awhile. I do weigh myself about once…
  • My sister lost a ton of weight with a prescription appetite suppressant, but when she stopped taking it, the gained it all back and then some. Weight loss pills can and do work, but if you're not learning how to cover your nutritional needs without overeating, they'll do you no good in the long run.
  • I'll add you, but I'll also give you my 2¢. I've been having the same issue lately, and this is what I'm trying: I realized that I have stopped eating vegetables at all, except for canned peas and carrots. This is because my husband prepares all our meals and he's a weirdo who only likes canned peas and carrots (but only…
  • I pay $0 a month and work out in my daughter's bedroom, the living room, and my bathroom. It's a big bathroom. I belonged to a gym a couple of years ago, but it really didn't suit me. I don't have a car (Obama's economy), so I always had to wait until my husband got home from work to go to the gym. So, I had a very limited…
  • Thanks for the info!
  • That is brilliant! I didn't know such a thing existed. I must go search Amazon right now!
  • Morning workouts just don't suit my schedule, and, even if they did, I wouldn't do them. I am NOT a morning person, so I don't want to think about that stuff first thing in the morning. I usually plan to work out right after my version of work (I'm a homeschooling mom), but when things come up and I can't work out when I'd…
  • I discovered the Pivotal Living Band yesterday. It's $12 for a year's rental, no automatic renewal. When you do renew, they send you a new band. I don't know enough about it to know how good it is, and I'm really not sure whether I would get much use out of a fitness band or not, being that I'm already at goal. Still, it's…
  • I don't bother with underwear when I work out. I never have a problem with my pantylines showing.
  • Planks are awesome for your core, and there are a ton of variations for them, so you can mix it up. Bird dogs, v-ups, push-ups, spidermans (spidermen?). Most of these involve getting in the floor, but I promise, no lying on your back, although you will be on your bottom for the v-ups.
  • Because I haven't seen one for less than $75, and it's hard to justify spending that kind of money on something I don't see myself as really needing, KWIM?
