Here's the study. Metabolism had dropped by 73%. What's more- it affected absorption of vitamins and minerals. There is a very small study group, so obviously more studies need to be done. http://www.healthguidance.org/entry/15464/1/Alcohol-Calories-Effects-on-Weight-Loss.html

Wow, that's so encouraging! Thanks for sharing!

yikes, how many calories are in Hand Grenades?!?! Someone asked about what is Mardi Gras. It's got some celebrations all over the USA now, but it was the Boeuf Gras (think Carnivale) celebrations of the French and Spanish who settled here on the Gulf Coast that began it all. The first one in a "town" was held by the French…

What is wrong with asking for relationship advice on a fitness forum that is under "Chit Chat, Fun, and Games"? Am I missing some unknown rule? To the OP, I also wish you the best. Set boundaries. I've had 3 step-mothers. All 3 were terrible and now long gone, so I do know what you are going through.

yum- Red beans and rice.... I need to start making some. Love me some Gambino's king cake.

Cool- didn't know about Buffalo doing that- that's great! I would love to experience an East Coast St. Patrick's Day.
-
Right there with you, husseycd ! Thank you for replying in the spirit of the original posting. I grew up going to St. Patrick's Day with family who lived on Royale Street near the Gallier house. Sadly, they sold that property after Katrina.

It's actually used like this: " Bless his heart, he "thinks" he's an expert because he's been to the Quarter, but he wouldn't know a carre if it hit him." We don't say "bless your heart" like that- it's crass.

I know, I just cannot BELIEVE it is October already. I've already been to at least two debutante events preparing for their 2015 Mardi Gras season. My first Mardi Gras ball is in the beginning of November due to,as I'm sure you know(being so smart and all!),the lingering custom of the effects of yellow fever.

Yes, I'm quite sure you wouldn't, being a spectator. Forgive me, I've only been planning my mystic society's parade lineup since June of this year, the costume designs for 2016 since December 2013, etc. but carry on with the insults. Can't wait to see how smart you are.

Love it! I don't either ( referencing drunk people). There are ways that it's avoidable (talk to a local). Some places even have marked out sections for non-drinking.
-
It's fun- celebrations are all over the Gulf Coast and other places, so it should be doable. In my area, we also throw food (moonpies- a cookie treat, ramen noodles).

I plan ahead for a snack. The snack will be before dinner. If not hungry, the snack will be after dinner. I eat a small portion (1/4 cup) of either cottage cheese or Greek yogurt. I usually keep a large container of Chobani vanilla Greek yogurt in the fridge for this type of thing. If I can, I add milled (ground) flax…

I love ground (milled) flax seed with a vanilla Greek Yogurt or I will make a Nutribullet drink which is 1 cup greens with pears and frozen blueberries. It really helps.
-
The $89 Nutribullet Magic Bullet has a separate milling blade. You would have a way to make smoothies and mill seeds or even coffee beans.

Ooh, and also Montreal, Canada! It was only a 4 hour flight. I plan on going back and including Quebec when my son finishes high school- this will be our homemade French language trip! I really liked Canada.

This site calculator at www.freedieting.com has been helpful to me for comparing TDEE to MFP's way. I also have to eat protein about every 3 hours. My easiest go to foods: Greek yogurt , cottage cheese, ground flax seeds.

My paternal family is diabetic, so I'm at risk for it. They developed it despite working out and diet- both were thin. I don't touch artificial sweeteners. They did. Sweet and Low (grandfather); Aspartame/ Splenda (father). I still don't have diabetes and I'm 45. I use plain old sugar in my coffee and drink water, no sodas.

Rhodes, the entire island, in Greece, has it all. I've got to get back. My mother lived in Sardinia for several years, and it's an interesting place. So is Corsica. Any of Ludwig's palaces in Austria. Ditto for the Alps. In America? My extended family lived in the French Quarter so that's a cool place, but I really like…

feel free to add me, any of you. I'm 5'4" and adding in the protein has been GREAT! I was a mostly non- meat eater so I am also doing a food quality overhaul. I probably had maybe 20 grams of protein prior to logging it on MFP. Each week I add in something new that is high in protein like eggs, flax seeds, almonds,…

Don't give up. It really takes a while for changes to show up- took me a good 3 weeks of logging all food. LOTS of cardio. By week 2, I stopped eye- balling my food and measured it. I was eating more than I realized. I may be eating too little now and I am adjusting again so I don't lose too fast. Same with wine- I measure…

Wow! You are such an inspiration! That's amazing! You look great!

I'm 5'4" , medium framed . When I was in my 20's , always 115. ZERO exercise. Probably a little thin. I once was 112 when I was adjusting to the demands of nursing and it really looked bad, very skeletal and bones everywhere! 30's usually 123 with some exercise required. My tentative goal is 120, but not if I'm too thin.

I'm trying to find more info on this workout you are doing- it sounds perfect for me. Is it a workout DVD? From Googling, I see that someone who has tested it (Michelle Olson) has a DVD....is that what you are doing? Thanks!
