Hi Schaka - consider counseling. Not because you are special wierd, but because all of us who really struggle have something eating us, that's causing us to overeat. Secondly, when I'm craving sweets it means I need protein. But if it isn't a physical craving (i.e. I ask myself if a bowl of cooked broccolli would take care…

Hi Punky - I agree with nicole - and I also discovered that leafy greens are one of the best sources of protein (as in quality not quantity), but the only way to access that nutrient is through green smoothies (the acid in the fruit breaks down the cellulose so our bodies can get at it). When I started drinking those my…

Hi ZSudds - first off - CONGRATS on 29 lbs! Your body may be adjusting to a new level of metabolism. My dietician told me to leave my food plan alone when I hit a plateau and let my body adjust. She said that a new level is often preceded by a plateau, then another weight loss surge. Increasing your calorie intake will…

Hi New Life - Since I'm one of the overweight, I appreciate your compassion. I guess I pray for us all, because the addictions behind eating are so intense. I was surprised to find out from a nutritionist that obesity often indicates malnutrition - eating the wrong thing, the body calls out for nurtients which is felt as…

Me too - I would like some cheerleading. Whenever you post, I'll try and get a cheer in for you!

I have found OA (Overeaters Anonymous) to be very helpful, and the books of Geneen Roth. I've concluded that whether I like it or not, I have an addiction to the taste of sweet, fats, grains and volume. I eat over everything. Dieting no longer works. I'm getting too old to try and remove the fat through excersize (it…

I like creating my own cookbook by checking out website. One of my fave websites is the low carb. Lots of great ideas.

Read the book "When you eat at the refrigerator, pull up a chair." and check out OA, especially OA-HOW. The book helps me get out of the wierd mind space around food, and OA gives me support. PS- OA stands for Overeaters Anonymous. Awesome people.

You have stated one of the many fears under the "why" of staying overweight for me. I finally came to the conclusion that I felt like I "should" want attention/relationship etc. When I asked myself if this was absolutely true for me (yes or no), I was surprised to hear "NO!" on the inside. So, slowly but surely I've been…

Hi - I agree! I'm working at listening to my body after years of trying to drown it out. It's not the enemy - it's a very Wise Teacher.

Hi Harby - I can relate to trying to use Saturdays as a control device. I gave up. Now I try to plan something really fun and non-food related on Friday night AND Saturday morning (like art classes or a walk in a beautiful place or a trip to the library with a friend). It's slow, but I'm learning.

Hi Linda - I weigh in the day before I talk to my health coach once a month. I can get obsessed about the little numbers and would rather focus on how my clothes feel. I'm trying really hard to be inner focused this time rather than outer. How about you?:flowerforyou:

Simple is good - raisins and almonds. Summer fave: soaked and sprouted oat groats, banana, a little nut milk.

Something I do daily that has done WONDERS for my "inner life" as it were: A green smoothie. I make a blender full, store in glass jars in 'fridge and drink over three days. Recipe: 2 c water, a fresh orange (peeled and cut in chunks), 1 small can of pineapple in juice (doesn't matter what kind), 1 apple (cut in chunks), 1…

Water, herbal tea. Ideally 2 liters a day.

Hello all - glad I have your company on this journey. I have a lot of support (non-cyber) and just need to stay focused. For me that means doing some kind of daily discipline that tracks my intention (i.e. entering the food, water, exercise, etc). I also talk to a work-provided health coach (it won't be such a great…

I do try to stay - if not in the corral - at least the field. My "hmm, better not' list is sugared starch. After a lifetime of trying to get a different result, I've given up. Most of the time I do okay, and now I would really like to fit into my favorite clothes. Focus...focus...
