Hi Jenny, One thing that really helped me see some very good results was switching from packaged or processed foods (not my Grand's Biscuits Noooo!! lol) which would make me pretty tired or downright groggy to eating more fresh fruits and veggies. That, and I starting doing some protein and fiber shakes (I use EAS…

Don't worry, the Tri's will grow real fast. Nearly every exercise for upper body you can do uses them to some degree (except for bicep curls of course). Let us know how you're doing in a few weeks!

I take one day off for absolute rest. no gym, no hard cardio, no fat burn, just chilling out. I take another day of the week for "light exercise. Maybe a a walk around the neighborhood, or to a park or something. Overdoing it can be just as bad as not doing enough. My routine looks something like this (though I do switch…

Hi Mymuvee, If there is one thing that all of us have in common, it is our struggle with eating the wrong foods. My weakness are those amber waves of grain, hops and yeast. I used to eat/drink and "break my diet" all the time, no matter what "plan" I put myself on. What I didn't know is that ALL diets will fail. Every last…

I've really taken a liking to boneless Brisling sardines in either olive oil or mustard. They really stave off hunger, are packed with protein, and taste less "fishy" in my opinion than a can of tuna-fish meat. I like to eat a can every day, either by themselves or on little whole wheat crisps with some black pepper on…

I've been having great luck taking a chocolate protein shake with some fiber added in for breakfast when I don't feel like eating. That gives me some good morning calories, and helps keep me from wanting to eat lots of food when the afternoon cravings tend to arrive. I use the EAS Chocolate protein powder and Yerba…

Stevia is a decent sweetener, though it gives me a faint "bittery" aftertaste. There is also Xylitol, which clinically helps promote oral health as well. But if you enjoy a coffee with a dab of sugar, it's only about 15 calories that's you'll burn off on your walk around the grocery store looking for Stevia hehehe

Rest days are a key part of my routine. I ensure that I give my body a chance to recover and not push it so hard all the time with hours in the gym. But even though it's a "rest" day, I still do some stretching, and maybe just a few minutes of light exercises to get the blood pumping. And if your body is giving you pain…

Hi Greg, Don't sweat it man. I do this quite often. I'll do well for several days, and then *POW* weekend or party or something else comes along and I go well over my calories for the day. I'm still down 40 lbs+ since I started my new lifestyle. That's what you have to think of it as, a different mindset of life changes,…

With a recent digestive problem onset like you are describing, I would look for any new foods you have incorporated into your diet and maybe eliminate those to see if the problem subsides. And while you're doing that, my official advice is: "See a doctor, pronto" A Distended abdomen like you're describing (outside of…

No need to despair! =) This is tough stuff to do. We all have physical limitations and challenges that we must all deal with. But you can do this. Back surgery and hip problems don't help in the motivation department, but it's just a matter of finding the right combination of nutrition and exercise that works best for you.…

I'll weigh in about once a month or so for my official "weigh in". I'm going by "belt notches" and how the clothes fit in the mean time. Sometimes if I have a lot of salt, I'll hop on the scale just to see how much water it makes me hang onto, but that's just more curiosity on my part.

Hi Liz, Like you, I was SHOCKED when I first saw how much caloric energy I was eating during a normal day. And I loved my Wendy's and Hot Dog On A Stick and Big Fat Burrito's. I loved cooking, as long as it had butter, bacon, and gravy. After seeing the numbers, I banned myself from eating anywhere that had a drive-thru…

That is a wonderful idea! I will do exactly that. I mean it's all there. I have the start weight on the package, then weight it after I cook it, Chomp the chickeny yummy goodness I want, and then weigh what's left over for a difference. It's clear as a bell now. Thank you very much! =D

I'm a big fan of coconut water. It's the only "juice" I know of that is so pure, it's been used as an IV fluid in third world countries when Saline wasn't available. Lots of brands out there, Zico, Vita-coco, etc. I find the ones in the Aseptic packaging taste better than the ones in the plastic bottles, which have a sort…

Wow. Now there is some real inspiration! Excellent work =)

I would say go for it. One of the biggest things that always kept me failing with "diets" is that I always felt deprived of things I wanted. So hey, if you're under your calorie limits, enjoy the things you like! That way you don't need to feel like you're "losing" anything. =)

I have been lightheaded during a workout once or twice, but they were it was a very rare occurrence back in the military. You really should see a doctor for this if it is happening regularly. Not something to play around with. =(

Congratulations that is wonderful news! Keep going =D

Shin splints. God I hate those things. The only thing that seems to work for me once they show up is to stop running and hit up the stair-master, elliptical, or a weighted-vest walkabout to substitute. That and a healthy amount of ibuprofen helps. Stretching and a good 5 minute warmup when I start my run also seems to…

Welcome to the club! Really good to see you here Lorah. I'm new to the forums too. Like you I've been just using the phone app for a while (amazing how many calories are in food these days eh?). I'm enjoying all the support and helpful information I'm getting here, and I think if you believe that you can reach your goals,…

Hi Sweet, The one problem with your comment that I can see is that you are asking for other people to "push" you. This way is nearly a guaranteed way to fail. You need to realize that YOU are the one in control and only you have the power to push yourself. It's not about "weight loss", it's about personal empowerment and…

I feel ya. I have similar problems with trying to stay motivated. It is very easy to crash onto my insanely comfortable bean-bag chair when I get home from classes and forget the exercise. One thing that has been a great help to me is to simply take my "motivation" level out of the equation by making my exercise part of my…

Hi Ela, I have had very good success doing about 20 minutes of lifting before going for my 45 minutes of cardio training. I started doing it in that order after I learned that weight training requires the muscles to use the body's glycogen supply (sugars) first, and then following it with the cardio training can then begin…

Yup! Today is a new day. A healthy lifestyle is about an overall trend and good habits. You're allowed to slip-up and overdo it here and there. Just hop back on and do it today. You got this =)
