  • Try reading this: I ache ALL the time. My knees, my hip, and especially my feet! Gotta be all the extra weight. I hate mirrors, and the way I look. To me, I'm disgusting. I just don't "feel" sexy anymore. I'm in my 30's and feel like the most unattractive woman in the world. Gotta fix this. Do it for me!! Sound familiar?…
  • The truth??? Any movement is better than none; it doesn't have to be turbo fire, or 30 day shred, or px90 to be beneficial.
  • I was on a mini plateau until I started zigzagging. I eat the very same foods I have been eating since I started MFP and at the same rate; meaning trying to eat 6 times a day. Where the zigzagging comes in is that I plan ahead of time to subtract 200-300 calories from one day and add it to the next and so on until the…

  • Yes, I am careful about the types of exercise I do. You cannot target fat loss, but you can target muscle mass. My butt is really big so I don't do resistance exercises (like elliptical and spinning) on my lower body. This has worked great for me.
  • Personally, I never log "activity" because it is accounted for in my base calories when I chose "lightly active". But I do try to get planned cardio and strength training in 6 days a week and I log those calories and make sure I eat them, too. I don't know how tall you are but I am 5'4" and I eat at least 1700 to 1900…
  • I looked at your food diary and these are my thoughts. Although your calorie level is low enough, too many of your calories come from carbs, sweets, french fries, alcohol, soda and pizza. Many people on MFP say they successfully lose weight eating these kinds of foods regularly, but it never worked for me and by your own…
  • I live in the Seattle. But the no salt added Campbell's are still not available here in the Pacific NW. I visit Vancouver and/or Victoria every year but never tried to buy them there.
  • I'm sorry, but I'm calling BS on that. Campbell's used to have 5 soups varieties including the chicken broth that had NO SALT added that I used to use all the time about 7 years ago until I couldn't find them in stores anymore. I kept asking my local store to carry those soups again and they said they were no longer being…
  • I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but Depends (even the heavy duty kind) do not hold enough liquid for a situation like you are describing. They ONLY service patrons that have 'leakage' issues, not someone that actually REALLY needs to empty their bladder and cannot wait because of urgency. How do I know this...well suffice…
  • This is really important information nicely written. I think most of us are here on MFP because our bodies have been lying to us for a long time and it is time to retrain them to tell the truth!! I have been training my body to tell me to get up and exercise rather than sit on the couch snacking. My body is stubborn and it…
  • When you say "Eating more is required, and I try really hard to eat my work out calories, but it is tough sometimes!" do you mean you have been successful at eating a little more or you haven't been able to accomplish this? Because that is the only thing I can think of that you haven't already tried. (Calorie zigzagging…
  • You need to go to the GOALS section of MFP and fill out your personal information including how active you are throughout the day on average and how much you want to lose a week. MFP will calculate your daily calorie goal and then if you have exercise/workouts in addition to your daily activity, you enter that information…
  • I eat them all. I use MFP to calculate my exercise calories. Since I am losing at the rate I set for myself in my goals I can assume the MFP calculations are correct for me. P.S. I don't record "activity" because I have my activity level set for "lightly active" and am already eating those calories as my base.
  • I like this!
  • My advice would be that you don't need to lose "WEIGHT" you need to lower your body fat percentage. You accomplish this by many of the same behaviors that losing weight entails. Meaning, you have to change WHAT you eat and you need to add exercise to your daily activity. If you are already active now, that is great, but it…
  • For me, it halts my weight loss. Excess water is stored in fat cells, too. That is why water weight can look and feel just like fat. When there is too much water because of sodium or any other reason, the processes that "find" excess fat can't get to the fat (it is buried under inflammation). In addition, for people who…
  • Me, me, me. I started in Mar 2010 at that rate and maintained it throughout but actually lost about 1.5 lbs a week for the first couple of months, then 1 lb per week and now that I am within 20-10 pounds of my goal weight I am actually losing the 1/2 lb a week. Looking back, I am SO GLAD I chose this rate. I feel like I am…
  • It's simple: your body needs to be fueled to burn fat!
  • I certainly don't have the answers to all your questions, but one thing I do know is that having elevated inflammation (water weight) on a continuous basis hinders the bodies ability to metabolize fat. Most of the excess water resides in the fat cells so that when these cells are 'inflated' even if it is with water rather…
  • You are needlessly worrying about what TIME of the day you eat. Eating late at night does NOT hinder weight loss as long as you are sticking to your calorie total. The reason many people warn against eating late at night is because being tired can lead to overeating. Your guard and your resolve is at it's weakest and…
  • Read "How to escape your shape" by Edward J. Jackowski. I am proof that this works.
  • There are several things that could be causing your lack of progress: 1) Even though you drank water, everything you ate was loaded with sodium. This = weight gain. 2) You ate a lot of carbs. High percentage of carbs in the diet = water weight gain. (This is why low carb diets are so popular). 3) You didn't eat enough.…
  • Have you had a check-up lately? I had crazy out of control inflammation every time I exercised and I was finally diagnosed with a blood disorder. Now that I have been treated, I don't experience that anymore.
  • I'm the same. Also, I find if I snack on carbs (like popcorn), it just makes me hungrier!
  • I don't think there is a 'normal' amount, but 10 lbs is more than most. Some people experience radical inflammation when their body undergoes stress (like exercise, or illness, or allergies to certain foods, etc.) and others not so much. Regardless, inflammation must be reduced in order for your body to metabolize fat…
  • I think of a cheat day as just cheating myself. Like anyone else, I sometimes go over my calories, but it isn't a planned event and I try to even it out over the next day or two. I am trying to form new habits in regard to the quality and quantity I eat so I try every day to meet those goals. The thoughts I have about it…
  • First of all, I am just wondering how you know you are low in iron? What is your ferritin count? It should be somewhere around 100. (Lower to about 80 is still okay) The reason I am asking is because I am just recovering from the effects of iron overload. Even though my ferritin count had been ABOVE normal for the past 20…

  • Jump rope. You can do it anywhere (well, not while you are pushing a stroller), but it is easy on your knees and is lower impact than running/jogging and it burns calories like crazy. The stroller walk could be the warm-up or cool down.
  • Don't give up until you try backing off on exercise slightly (meaning some days should not be so intense) and upping calories. The worst that can happen is that you still lose slowly but you are eating more and not working out so hard.
  • It varies for individuals, but most people have to eat 'differently' to adjust without feeling hungry. I had to stop any snacks that contained only 'one' food element. I can't have JUST popcorn, or JUST an apple. For me, each meal and snack has to contain a healthy fat, carb, and most importantly, a protein. I had to…
