Protein!!! Mostly chicken, Yogurt, eggs, cheese Pretzels, protein bars, Ritz's peanut butter crackers Those are my "gotta have in the house at all times" foods. What's funny about it is: My daughters have honed in on it now too. I'll portion out the pretzels, and they'll grab a bag and sometimes have it with a "Jif to go"…

I've been a WW member for about 5 years, and was logging on MFP, then converting the data to WW points, and was doing rather well. UNTIL. WW went and changed the way they count points. Fiber now doesn't mean anything. They're solely focused on lean protein and saturated fat. It used to be the more fiber, the more points…

0-2 pounds a week is a normal healthy average. That would put tops around 8-ish pounds a month. 8x4=36-ish. I've lost anywhere from 8 pounds a month to 12 pounds a month - 12 pounds/month would be about 48. I'm not going to say it can't be done - but you'd have to be very diligent on keeping an accurate food journal and…

The hardest part was learning what works for me. It wasn't WW, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem or some other plan of plans - it was actually meeting with a nutritionist and finding out enough about food, about myself, and about what I was willing to do to be able to lose weight. It was actually going to take "work", I would have…

My sister and I were having this conversation recently. It really is calories in vs. calories out. However - How you use those calories is important. If it's all carbs/sugar - you're going to get tired, feel bloated and be grumpy. And you're likely to be hungry all the time. The quality of those calories in does count. If…

Yes, you count it - but I don't eat back the calories from it....not unless I'm running a 26m marathon each day or something that warrants it.

Cleanses/detox/whatever - aren't worth anything. If it were, everybody would do it, and nobody would need to lose weight. I even asked my Bariatric surgeon - I keep hearing about cleanses and detoxes, etc. from everywhere else but here. He said if there were any benefit to it, he'd be recommending it. He hasn't yet.

If you're measuring/weighing your food and still gaining, then you aren't doing it right. It's amazing how tightly you can pack in ice cream into 1/2 cup "serving". I would get every last little speck of ice cream into that cup - but if I was measuring lettuce - it was amazing how little lettuce could be measured into that…

Back in April 2011, I had my "a ha" moment and ended up going to see a Bariatric surgeon. I weighed in at 376. He told me I'd need to lose 90 pounds before he'd do the surgery. Most people would only lose 30 pounds and get frustrated and have a conversation with the doctor on how to proceed. I ended up losing 115 pounds…

It's really easy to get frustrated in this process. Didn't mean to sound condescending in my post - so my apologies if I was. I get frustrated really easy with the "mental aspect" of this process a lot. Just wanted to say good luck - and hope everything works out well.

If you're still pregnant - I wouldn't be soliciting advise from a blog. If you don't like what your doctor is telling you, find another doctor to get a second opinion. That being said - I'm currently at 327, and I've lost about 11-ish pounds since the beginning of August. Realistically, I know there's now way I can keep up…

0-2 pounds is the healthy average, but as others have said, the less you have to lose, the less a week you'll likely lose.

Logging your food is so much more important than exercising. Not that exercise isn't important, but depending on what you're eating, there's usually not enough time in the day to work off anything like a a Dairy Queen Blizzard. The most important thing to do is to log your food as accurately as possible, and get something…

Everybody is different. You may or may not have extreme excess skin when you get to your goal. I'm 50, and after I lost 100 pounds, I had a LOT of extra loose skin in my stomach area. I did have surgery to remove it, and the recovery was a bit more difficult than I expected. With the surgery, I had lost about 140 pounds,…

Many people will tell you your body doesn't know what time it is when it's hungry. I don't put much stock in the timing of eating. (There's lots of people who won't eat past a certain time.) Not eating past a certain a time does help in that I don't have indigestion or heartburn as much in the middle of the night. But…

There are tricks to taking metformin (I found that out the hard way): *Make sure you take it at LEAST 3/4 of the way through the meal. *Take it with a whole glass of water. *You don't have to go carb free, but the fewer carbs and the more protein you have, the easier it goes. The doctor will tell you to take it in the…

One week is not enough especially after battling WW. They've decided to focus on lean protein and saturated fat. They've totally forgotten about fiber. I'm not a big fan of any diet that narrows it's focus so greatly. When I started logging on MFP, I went a couple weeks just logging what I was eating. That way I'd know…

Really - it's a mindset - move more, sit less. It doesn't matter what exercise you're doing as long as you're moving more sitting less. Get a fitness tracker. Start trying to increase your steps. I remember when I first got a Fitbit, I was lucky to get in 500 steps a day. I've worked up to about 2000-ish. They say to lose…

LIke has been said, there really are none. There are prescriptions that are supposed to stave off hunger, and may have other troublesome side effects. Anyway - there are no scripts that would be helpful for me because I don't eat because I'm hungry. I'm an emotional eater and eat when it's sunny, rainy, cloudy, snowing,…

I would say meet with a nutritionist. That helped my husband and I a lot when he was diagnosed diabetic, and when I started on the path to lose weight. Next, one of the things she told me was to focus on lean, healthy proteins, and the fats/carbs would take care of themselves. I've found that to be generally true. It also…

More fiber, protein, water.

First thing you can do is: be a willing participant. Don't begrudge the process of what things you'll have to do to lose weight. You're going to have to make changes on how you approach food. Log everything down to the packets of ketchup. Review often to see how you can make your entries more "food journal friendly". Drink…

If you're always hungry, then the 2 things you can do that'll help most are: increasing your fiber intake, and increasing your protein intake. Both of those ought to alleviate being hungry all the time. Anytime you go to eat something - especially carbs - find some protein you can eat first. A piece of cheese, a handful of…

I went to see an allergist once who complained that I needed to have Bariatric surgery done to lose weight and that it would help my allergies for me to lose weight. I was really ticked because, while I realize he's a healthcare professional, he's an allergist....not my primary internist or family doctor, or whatever. He…

I'm an emotional eater - I eat when I'm happy, sad, tired, bored, when the sun's shining, when it's raining, when it's snowing, if it's windy, if it isn't windy, whatever the reason. Yes, you can try eating smaller snack-type meals throughout the day - and actually - that's what works better for me, is to eat something…

Been there. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and be patient. You could try changing up your exercise routine. If you aren't swimming, try some Aquafit classes. If you're currently swimming, try taking a cardio/steps class instead. Sometimes body gets used to things and gets comfortable. Time to change things up a bit.

Pizza and ice cream are going to affect the scale. But you can't expect to have it on Saturday night and to show up on the scale on Sunday. That part's called water weight from the sodium from the pizza, etc. etc. etc. Like someone else said, you can't expect to have pizza and ice cream and for there not to be…

There's really not enough information to really help anyone give you advice. Unless you're doing P90X and really exerting that many calories, you shouldn't eat back your calories. If you are doing that much, you might not be eating enough and your body could be hanging on to every calorie. Make sure your caloric intake is…

Yup - I've been there too - tried all the fad diets to no avail. I got so frustrated because it seemed like nothing at all was working and figured I'd have to have surgery to fix it. I ended up going to a Bariatric surgeon. He wanted me to lose 90 pounds before doing the surgery, and set me up with appointments to see his…

Been there, done that. You can't expect her to flip the switch to want to be healthy just because you did - I know, "Oh, but if you could!!" LOL. She's just not quite ready to give up all the crap yet. I started up a "snack box" that has 100 calorie-ish snacks in it so that I don't have to see all the crap the husband and…
