Taking raspberry ketones just made me burp rasperry’s. I tried the ketones, the green tea extract, yadda yadda yadda. The only thing it did was FREAK OUT my liver. Fortunately, I see a diabetic endocrinologist - even though I’m not diabetic, I have a pre-diabetic condition and would LOVE not to have to fool with diabetes…

Yes, I’m a huge believer in CICO. I also firmly believe that not every calorie is the same. The “quality of the food” does play a factor. I’m no nutritionist, but surely we can all agree that eating 10 snickers bars is not as “healthy” as actually paying attention to what types of protein’s and other foods you eat. I’m not…

There’s lots of things you can do. Here’s things I would use to help “tide me over”: yogurt and/or string cheese chocolite triple fudge protein bar (www.healthsmart.com) - has about 10g protein and 10g fiber - about 100 calories Healthsmart.com also has these crispy caramel cluster things...I have it for the fiber, but…

There are so many things like ACV and green tea extract, raspberry ketones, detoxes, cleanses, etc. out there, and I’m now on my second round with the bariatric people because I lost 125-150 on my own and gained nearly all of it back because I opted not to have the surgery....this time I’m not making that mistake. Anyway,…

I hear ya. I’ve spent so much time trying to get below 350 since the beginning of the year. I’ve floated between 352-363. As others said, the more you want it, the harder it is to get there. I got so frustrated that I went back to see the bariatric surgeon I went to see 7 years ago when I considered getting lap-band. I was…

Any sort of movement tracking device would be good, whether it’s a watch, or band, whatever. My husband had an i-phone, and I have a Fitbit Versa. I had a Fitbit One that I LOVED, but it was old and broke. THe things I like about this one is: Tracks my sleep without me having to tell it when I was asleep. Tracks number of…

THere are still things you can do to set yourself up for success. I have a husband and 2 girls (11 and 14). They want things all the time that aren’t “food journal friendly”. It’s easy to say “don’t buy it”, but when you have others in the house who can buy that stuff (the husband), and often does buy other stuff that…

The others had great insights on trying to identify if it’s really hunger or habit. If nothing else helps, I’ve got a “snack box” that has baggies of 100 calories snacks - pretzels, protein bars, etc. and different fruits, and things in the fridge like hard boiled eggs, light string cheese, greek yogurt. That way, if I…

THere are two things I get from www.healthsmartfoods.com that help me. The chocolate fudge coated protein bars, and the “crispy caramels”. The protein bar has about 100 calories, 10 G protein, 10g fiber. The Crispy caramel has about 120 calories and about 10g fiber - it’s sort of like 2 mini “100 grand” bars. I’ll have a…

I remember having a conversation with a bariatric nutritionist telling her that I was eating within my realm of numbers, but I was still hungry. She suggested that I increase my fiber intake. It really helped a lot. There are these “crispy caramel” things from Chocolite/Chocorite at www.healthsmartfoods.com. They’re about…

Complete avoidance is going to end up kicking you in the behind at some point. I can’t ever tell myself “never” because then that’s all I can ever think about and then go ballistic. A cocktail once a month isn’t going to hurt you, or really once a week - as long as you can maybe do it in a controlled environment. If you…

Before being “on program”, I can honestly say that I don’t think I remember ever actually being hungry. Whenever I legitimately track, I do get hungry. And depending on the macro’s, dictates how hungry I might get. I remember talking to a bariatric nutritionist and telling her that i was in reasonably good with tracking…

My family is ALL about the fad diets: grapefruit diet, cabbage soup diet, cookie diet. OMG...Before when I lost over 90 pounds, they kept saying, “I need to do what you’re doing” and when I’d tell them, they looked at me like I was an alien. Yes, I’ve gained most of it back, but I’m back on track and working with the…

Back in April 2011, I was introduced to MFP by a bariatric surgeon’s office - went to see them about surgery that I ended up not having becuase i was losing weight pretty well on my own. I joined WW a few months after that, and using their math, I got more food than what the Dr.’s office wanted me to have....so I used that…

Whenever I’ve gotten stuck, it’s because I’ve gotten too lax with my logging....that I’m not as diligently logging the correct amounts of things. If I buckled down and really logged every little morsel down to the condiments what I was eating, the scale would start moving again.

I’ve heard of people who swear by it. I’ve never liked fasting. Probably because I’m a total food addict. However, I will say that the bariatric doctors I’ve asked about whether things like intermittent fasting or things like cleanses where worth considering all said the same thing. If they were worth considering, the…

I got a Fitbit several years ago, and have had one since. Only, the one I had just pooped out on me (1 too many times through the washing machine). I ordered a new one - a Fitbit Versa - and it’s supposed to be here in about 1-2 weeks now. My husband has had about 4 different bands - 1 was a Fitbit, 1 was a Microsoft, 1…

My mother used to model, and so did one of my sisters. I was the fat one. My mother was on my case to lose weight since I was 10. I resented it. All of it. That the could all eat what they wanted and not lose weight. All I ever wanted to do was eat. The thing was, they never ate as much as I wanted to eat. They’d have a…

Fasting is NOT the way to go. Having fought this weight loss all my life, and spoken with various doctors, NOT 1 EVER SAID - “hey, why don’t you fast?” Or “Hey, let’s do a cleanse!” Why? Because they don’t work. It is ALL ABOUT calories in vs. calories out. Oh - you caught that I didn’t mention exercise. Why? Because other…

I’ve never been a big fan of shakes. THe only time I’ve ever heard of bariatric doctors recommending shakes is before/after surgery, or for about a week to help “get back on track”. I know plenty of people who do shakes in addition to any other food they’re having becuase of the amount of exercise they do to make sure they…

CHicken with garlic sauce and Mongolian Beef are two of my favorites. There are a lot of chicken dishes that come with the chicken fried. Once my family went to P. F. CHangs, and my brother ordered the sesame chicken with I think he called the Velvet Chicken. It wasn’t battered or fried. I LOVED IT!!! Since then, anytime I…

I’ve learned that the only people I want to tell are ONLY those that will be supportive, and even then I usually wait a while. People are resistant to change. Whether it’s me changing my food intake to try to lose weight, or those that I hang out with who are now mad because now when we go out for “margaritas and queso” -…

A few years ago, after I’d lost about 80 pounds, my husband finally started doing P90X. He didn’t log his food really, and didn’t wear an activity tracker. After he got down to about 130-ish, everybody started saying he looked gaunt too. He had been getting hungry and just powering through it. He wanted to get down to a…

Unless you had the whole cake, that piece of cake didn’t blow your whole day. OR unless you let that piece of cake turn into a blown-out binge, it didn’t blow your whole day. Sometimes you just have to say, “Okay. I’m having the stupid piece of cake, then moving on.” Which is exactly what you did, and I say FANTASTIC…

Don’t resort to pills. They’re crap, and any pills I ever tried to take really messed with my liver. Track your measurements. Review your food journal to see if there are any trends relating to what you’re eating to when you feel most blecky/bloated. Someone suggested increasing your fiber intake. THat’s a HUGE help for me…

That’s why you track things like that over time. I swear when I was “on the wagon” a few years ago, I was consistently losing an average of 1.5 pounds/week. Thing was, there were weeks when I’d be really diligent and gain 3-5 pounds for no reason whatsoever. THen I’d go back the next week and lose 4-6 pounds. Our bodies…

I have a “junk food free area”. We have a dorm fridge in our laundry room that has greek yogurt, string cheese, hard boiled eggs, and bottled water in it. Next to it is a box that has about 100-150 calorie snacks in it - snack bags of pretzels and protein/fiber bars from www.healthsmartfoods.com. Somebody I knew said he…

IN my laundry room, I have a dorm fridge and a “snack box”. In the fridge is greek yogurt, light string cheese, hard boiled eggs. I also like the P3’s, lunchables, snack packs of sliced apples, etc. These usually can have up to 50-100-150-200 calories depending on what it is. IN the box: snack bags of pretzels,…

I got married at 28. I met my husband in 1991 - he was the best man in a wedding I was a bridesmaid in. I was about 185 at the time, and had been trying to lose weight for the wedding. I only lost about 30-40 pounds. I then ballooned up to 376, and now am at 347 after losing about 140 pounds a few years ago down to about…
