  • I missed the voting but WOW, there are some awesome stories there! Makes me feel like a super wimp, lol.
  • Glad you found a bike that fits you well & you love! Several of the women in my tri club have men's road bikes they bought from the shorter men in our club when the men upgraded...it's very common and like other posters said, "women's bike" means drastically different things for each brand of bikes.
  • Go Tribbey! You have killed it since then! Keep it up to meet your ultimate goal weight!
  • Is your swim in a pool or open water? How long is it? If you have some friends you can get to swim with you in the pool, cram as many as you can into a lane and try swimming around them. Better yet, if your tri is in open water, do it in a local lake. If it's in open water, I would switch practically all of your swim…
  • Haha I'll have to watch that! It will be very interesting to see such muscular people doing those activities!
  • I have heard it in a lot of other sports. In cycling, "it's only a 35 miler!" In swimming, "it's only a 50m!" I have to admit I think that way about running now, I don't really think twice about "just a 5K." I just do it, the same way Ironmen/women could bust out a sprint tri in their sleep. I agree it can be condescending…
  • Granted, I'm in a small age group (F 20-24) and it's not really a "deep" age group here, but I've gone 3 for 3 on the podium this year in sprint tris, and I've been in all 3 spots this season. I want back on top!
  • Bump. Thanks!
  • I second www.beginnertriathlete.com and the US version of runnersworld.com.
  • Sprint Tri #3 of the season is in the books for me! Definitely my best and favorite one so far. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/bstamps12
  • GARMIN! I'm in love with my Garmin and I'll never buy another brand. There is a wide range of products so you can find one that fits in your price range and works for the training you want. The Garmin website is great for helping you decide which one is best for you. ETA: I have the Garmin 310XT because I do triathlons…
  • I'll have to check those out in the winter. Thanks for the review!
  • Great job! Glad to hear your wife is changing her lifestyle along with you, I'm sure that makes it much easier and will help your change last a lifetime. Keep it up!
  • This is a little late considering you're probably under 24 hrs to race time now, but don't just drink water today! You also need electrolytes. But be careful with Gatorade because it's mostly just sugar. Find lots of sodium and potassium today. If you don't eat/drink more than enough sodium and potassium, and you drink a…
  • If you were running over your max HR using your age and you felt fine, then I would think your true max is obviously closer to your metabolic age max HR. I agree though that a max HR is very difficult to find. Your talk with your doc should clear it up. He can test a few other things to make sure there's no underlying…
  • The exercise from walking will boost your metabolism more than just the right nutrition alone. That said, watch your nutrition closely because about 80% of losing weight is nutrition with the other 20% being exercise. In comparison to zumba or a stationary bike, for the most part, walking will burn a calorie the same. That…
  • I haven't volunteered yet, but the organization that does a lot of tri's around here just started a volunteer program where I can earn the equivalent of $8/hr credit towards an entry into another race they organize. I've heard it's an excellent way to learn more about the small details, especially transition.

  • It may have been invented by Satan, but your swim coach is right. It will help your overall swimming greatly and help your body awareness in the water versus doing just freestyle. I obviously don't know about your personal balance/positioning issues, but butterfly will open your eyes to your efficiency in the water and how…
  • Do it. I was so nervous about this past weekend where I did 2 back to back events, but I know I would have been disappointed if I skipped out on either one. Sunday hurt, but it was the type of "FUN" trijoe described. I wrote about both events on my blog here on MFP, but didn't include too many logistical notes in the blog.…
  • I like the cutout swimsuits that are one pieces. They look flattering on a lot of people. The cutout gives an illusion of that hourglass shape while the material in the torso can help to cover some "flab" in the stomach and kind of pull you together. The butt part of the swimsuit is also less likely to ride up than a…
  • I second the idea of stopping for 10 sec after a lap rather than doing backstroke. Also to check what strokes will be allowed. If you are going to continue to do triathlons, I would say the $ spent on 30 minutes with a swim or tri coach would be well worth it. It really shouldn't be too expensive, most gyms with a pool…
  • Mine showed only 996 calories burned after a 2:10 all out half marathon once. I called BS on that. Should have been a good 300-400 calories more burned, surely. It's so hard to know what's accurate but yours does seem a little low.
  • Yeah, I get super hungry the day after. I'm okay with going over on that day because I know it balances out between the 2 days. I usually do my long runs early and by dinner i'm able to eat quite a bit to start replenishing my fuel. Protein shakes and other high-calorie foods are a must.
  • I think they all do it, even Hamilton said so in his interview where he accused Lance Armstrong of using EPO, masking agents, etc. But if they all do it, then why strip him of his seven Tour de France titles...why even have a Tour de France? But yes, my TV will be glued to Versus in July either way. Another thing, I don't…
  • I take off the day before, but I don't just sit around. Often I'm traveling to the race the day before and I make sure to take frequent walk breaks on the trip to avoid letting my muscles sit in the same cramped position for hours on end. If I'm not traveling or when I get to the destination, I do a lot of stretching and…
  • That is a lot cheaper than I would have thought! I just moved to NWA or I would definitely take advantage of that. Good for you that you're seeing your improvements on a much more accurate level than a scale!
  • A bit behind in joining the group this month, but here we go! Goals for the month: Swim: 2.4 Bike: 150 Run: 30 Totals for the month: Swim: .75 Bike: 39.6 Run: 10.6 I did my first tri of the season this Saturday, race recap is on my blog here on MFP.

  • That's awesome! Especially a PR on a 5K coming off the swim & bike! Congrats!
