How about New Rules of Lifting for Women (NROLFW)? It's a 6 month program if you're lifting 3x per week. They suggest 3x, but 2x is OK, too - obviously the program would take longer if done 2x per week instead of 3x per week. It sounds like it fits in perfectly with what you're doing (increasing muscle mass & decreasing…

Great - thank you! And thanks for the new recipe to fuel my pumpkin addiction!

I had the same question! Also - what size dish do you bake it in? Thanks! And congrats on your little one!

On cardio days I use regular whey protein - but on weight training days, I use GNC's Pro Performance AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 (love the chocolate - it's made by Optimum Nutrition). Having used regular whey protein for months before trying the Wheybolic, I can say for me and my hubby - we've definitely noticed a…

I still weigh, count, & measure things - it keeps me honest! Even though I know what a serving size of things I eat regularly looks like - it's TOO EASY to over estimate and THINK you're only eating a serving.

Great job! You are not only an inspiration to people here (thanks for 'braving it' and posting your pics!), but you're an inspiration to your boys! They must be so happy to have you running around with them this year instead of standing and watching! GOOD FOR YOU! Keep up the great work and you'll reach your goal(s) in no…

Check cathe.com - Cathe Friedrich has a lot of cardio only options that are pretty intense. Definitely not 'choreography free' - but not dance choreography like Zumba. You can watch parts of the workouts on her website or on YouTube. Kelly Coffey-Meyer has some good cardio DVDs, too. I love Step & Kickboxing - so her…

Kensky - I bought the Starting Strength DVD in addition to the book. I highly recommend it! It shows men and women performing the exercises so you can get a better feel for how it should look. Pics are good, but video is better (IMO).

Thanks to everyone who commented on my calorie question. I appreciate the input! :flowerforyou: I've been eating about 1600 per day (every day - workout or not) for awhile now. But based on my NROLFW math calculations (pages 63-65), I should be eating 1739 on non-workout days and 1987 on workout days. So I'm going to shoot…

Hi Everyone! While I'm not new to weight training, I am new to NROLFW. I got my book last week and have been working my way through it all (in addition to "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe - picked up the book & DVD). I'm very excited for when I'll be finished with my reading and can start doing!!! My question…

I only use mine for measuring calorie burns during workouts (I have a Polar HRM). I've also heard that HRMs aren't meant to be used for all day logging. I've heard that BodyBugg and products similar to them are more accurate for daily calculations.

Whatever you do - do NOT be a slave to the scale!!! Having a number in mind is fine - but don't let it consume you! For my height (5'4"), I've seen numbers down to 111 - which is completely crazy for me! I set a scale goal for myself, but honestly don't put much stock in it - I measure my success more in body fat…

I own TurboFire and love it. But for variety, I have some other fitness DVDs that aren't Beachbody products. Some of my favorite instructors that I've found are Cathe Friedrich (www.cathe.com), Amy Bento (now Amy Bento Ross), and Kelly Coffey-Meyer. If you're looking for something challenging - these ladies will provide…

Ours is the same way. However, we can get an exemption from our doctor which will override the BMI requirement. We haven't needed to go that route, but if we ever gain enough lean mass to push us out of an acceptable BMI range, you can bet we'll get that exemption!!! Body fat % is a MUCH better indicator of fitness…

You can say that again! Not only is losing 231 lbs not "nothing" - it's REALLY SOMETHING!!! It's INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC, & TRULY AWE-INSPIRING! What a great job! Congrats to you on your amazing success so far - and your awesome outlook on life!!!
-
Every person is different with regards to this...some folks can lose a tremendous amount of weight and firm up beautifully while others can lose a much smaller amount of weight, but end up with baggy skin that won't go away without surgical removal.

WOW!!! Congrats on such an amazing year - and Happy Anniversary!!! You are an inspiration and look fantastic! Best of luck on your half marathon. :flowerforyou:

It would be helpful if we could see your food diary to see what you're eating so we can make suggestions to help you out!

Just my opinion - but I don't think you should worry about cutting calories at this point. Shift your focus to building more muscle...the fat loss will come along with it! In order to BUILD muscle, you can't eat at a deficit.

My husband and I use the same protein powders - no need to buy different ones for a man vs. a woman!
-
LOL! I was thinking the same thing about DHalaby73! Thanks for sharing all of the great recipes!!!
-
I've also found that if you add a little bit of water to your chocolate protein powder and mix it - it makes a pretty darned good chocolate 'syrup' to put over your ice cream! EDIT - Oh - and I almost forgot...an add on to this idea is also mixing in 1/2 TBSP peanut butter...for a chocolatey PB ice cream topping!…

What an inspiring story - thanks for sharing ALL of it! Great job in not only losing the weight, but getting your LIFE back! You look great! With your great outlook now, I'm SURE you'll reach all of your goals! CONGRATS!

Hi! I'm in the "Susquehanna Valley" (Harrisburg area).
-
Bumping to come back for baked oatmeal recipes - YUM!
-
Wow! That looks like two totally different people in those pictures! KUDOS to you - you look (and I'm sure feel!) FABULOUS!
-
Very well said! I couldn't agree more!
-
That's awesome! Pictures definitely DO help us see the differences...especially over time. You sometimes get lost in your day to day self and don't realize how far you've come! By the way - your husband is looking thinner, too...is he doing this with you?

Here's a link to an article that really impressed and inspired me. It's proof positive that you can lift CRAZY amounts of weight as a woman and not look like a bodybuilder or a man! If you think she looks like a body builder (May 2011 pic), then I guess for me, personally, I'm totally, 100% ok with looking like a…

Katie - are you SURE you didn't come to my house and take pictures of me when I wasn't looking!?!? Being overweight as I went into both of my pregnancies certainly did me NO favors. I'm not opposed to a tummy tuck, but my older daughter will be starting college next fall - so $ for a tummy tuck may not be in the budget for…
