It definitely happened for me and my now husband - I initially had a huge crush on one of his best friends, and tried to get my husband to set us up, while he was dating one of MY friends! I think as you learn more about how compatible your personalities are and what a great guy he is, that can be a huge turn-on in and of…

I agree 100% with this. (Yes, your body does slow down your metabolism at night - but that's only after a certain amount of REM sleep and then it's good, because you have the longest gap between meals between dinner (or your last snack) and breakfast. If your body didn't slow down your metabolism you'd wake up starving!)

I have to say I'm not a huge fan of vitamin supplements (except maybe prenatal, but even then there is mixed evidence). A lot of times you are much better off getting your vitamins from food, because a lot of vitamins work most effectively with other micronutrients (ie, calcium and vitamin D work in tandem to help the…

I wonder if you were eating enough, especially after a workout. If I don't eat enough and I push hard in a workout I am definitely tired and grumpy! Also, I wonder if what you were eating gave you enough nutrients - I think being vitamin D deficient (? Maybe it's one of the vitamin Bs?) magnifies the effect of needing…

Also, how many pounds per week are you set to lose, and how close are you to your goal weight? A lot of people advocate for lowering your pounds lost per week to only -1 (or maybe even -0.5) when you get into a "healthy" BMI. Maybe try changing the components of what you eat? More protein? More veggies? More fiber? More…

That's a great question and I'm curious to see what people say. I think there is a rule of thumb (like x number calories for every y pounds) - my mom is a pediatric dietitian - but I can't remember it to save my life. The only thing I'd say, based on conversations with my mom, is that - *unless your daughter has picked up…

You look amazing!!! Congrats!!!!

So I think I finally just broke through a plateau I've been at since the end of June this morning. (My scale was FINALLY down a pound, but I try not to "officially" count it until I see it three days in a row). If I have actually broken through, I did it by one week of scaling back on the exercise (I usually burn a lot…

Yes! I definitely think so. Low calorie? Maybe not. (You could have mid-calorie - 125-200 calories for a sixth of the pizza - but not low-calorie.) Healthy? YES! As someone said above, use canned tomatoes or slices of tomatoes (or even mix canned tomatoes in with regular tomato sauce to up the nutrient value.) Use homemade…

I don't have a body bugg (I'd love one, though!!), but does it already assume you,ll exercise a certain amount each day? MFP is pre-exercise calories - maybe the body bugg is including exercise calories? Or maybe your MFP activity level is set too low? Good luck! I'm curious to see what other people say!

100,000% agree with this.

I haven't had it done (though I'm super curious to see what other people say!!), but I did up my calories from 800-1200 pre-MFP to 1450 (including eating back exercise calories) and lost five pounds, and just upped it again to 1670 last week and have lost another two pounds. (Not officially - I only record it when I see…

I agree with the general idea (different ratios work for different people), but I would say the 35% protein - 35% carbs - 30% fat is maybe too severe of a place to start (though you may end up there or possibly even with less carbs). Remember MFP's default settings are 65% carbs - 15% protein - 15% fat (which most people…

I am so with you there! Please, please don't add apostrophes just to make something plural - it actually does not make it "fancier", just wrong! *rant over* That link was hysterical. I read all the way through even though I should have been in bed two and a half hours ago.

You actually have a tiny little bone by the first metatarsal (ie, under the "ball" of the foot on the big toe end) that can become bruised/inflamed by too much pressure. This typically occurs in someone who is on their feet A LOT with poor shoe support (like modern dancers when they do a lot of jumping, or flight…

I feel like I actually am more successful when I have a cheat day once a week than when I don't. (I'm with taso - I call it a cheat day, but sometimes I eat a ton and sometimes I eat pretty much the same as other days.) I'd give it a try for a few weeks and see how your body reacts.

I'm a dancer and I do weight training!! Actually, nearly all professional male dancers do a significant amount of weight training, because us ladies (even the tiny ones) can be hard to lift! (Especially in a way that makes it look effortless - and especially if we have to be caught from a jump, or are moving while being…

Wow, I didn't even know people got gout anymore. I don't mean that to sound mean - I just thought it was one of those 1700s diseases that had been eradicated with modern health/hygiene, like scurvy. On a related note, I asked my husband the other night if being a woman's becoming morbidly obese was an excuse for her…

As you do any activity, your body will get more efficient and need less energy to do the same activity. Also, remember HRMs are really only accurate for *steady-state* cardio (ie, cardio at the same pace the whole time - running, walking, even biking or swimming, though they are sometimes less accurate there). Anything…

I LOVE the Biggest Loser DVDs (the ones with the season 4 contestants). I esecially think the warmup and cool down on the Power Sculpt DVD (the one with Jillian) do an awesome job of dynamically stretching all the major muscle groups (for the warm up) and statically stretching all the major muscle groups (for the cool…

Thanks for the inspiration!! You never know when one positive word can mean a huge amount to someone having a rough day - that's what your post just did for me. =)

As someone else said (but it's important to reiterate), muscles don't get shorter or longer. The connections between the fibers do. Knit your fingers together: these are like unstretched muscles fibers. Now keep your fingers knit together but pull them apart so your fingertips, instead of being close to the opposite hand's…

As another poster said, muscles imbalances happen for two reasons: (1) muscle tightness and/or (2) muscle weakness. If the imbalance comes from weakness, no amount of stretching will help (you can stretch the opposing muscle group but then you just destabilize the joint by having too much flexibility). If the imbalance…

What if you went somewhere between eating only 1350 calories and eating whatever you wanted - maybe like a consistent 1600 would help? I've heard if you are at the end of your weight loss (ie, already in the "healthy" BMI range), you have to start eating more in order to have your body think it will always have enough…

Congratulations! Great work and badmitton is so fun!

I drink about 12 glasses a day, before exercise (including exercise around 16-20!). I also use the bathroom a lot - once every hour or so. I wouldn't worry about that. But remember 8 ounces, which equals a glass, is actually pretty small. My water bottle is 24 oz so 1 bottle=3 glasses. I think you are probably fine. If you…

I love you for mentioning C.S. Lewis. He is my hands-down, all-time, absolute favorite author. I love all his work, but I honestly have read Chronicles of Narnia at least 50 times since I was 8 and I learn something new every time. I agree with Jane Austen, A. Conan Doyle, and of course J.K. Rowling (I don't think there is…

Lots of amazing ideas and suggestions here. For exercise, I think yoga and walking are great ideas. I also find simple abdominal exercises can be a great way to start my day - literally and figuratively making me feel more "centered". I literally roll out of bed, onto the floor, and do a plank pose for just about 15…

Awesome!!! What finally broke your plateau?

A lot of people have said some smart things here. I agree you are going to have to completely readjust who you think you are, how much you think you can accomplish, how you expect other people to treat you, etc. Maybe this is also something it would be good to talk through in therapy? You can have someone who learns all…
