I LOVE seeing this thread and (1) all of those short people who are like "Omg you're above 130!?! If I ever got to 130 I would hate myself!!!" can just go away, and (2) it's amazing the range of weights different bodies can be at the same height and ALL of them look healthy, fit, and beautiful! I have seen everything from…

Thank you! I saw it in someone else's signature and loved it so much I had to add it - another user named Taso42 (I think) made the site. I'm a total convert! I agree about Queens Blvd - the signs they have up that are like "a pedestrian was killed in this intersection on such-and-such date" are crazy!!! If that was my…

I'm pretty sure that you are just losing from your waist because of the working out, not because you are repeatedly sweating a lot at your waist. Your body distributes any water it has equally throughout the whole body, so it's not like you can "train" your waist to retain less fluid. Having something around your waist…

Wow that does seem low to me. I know when I have a hard swim I feel muscularly and cardiovasculalrly just as tired as when I do hard circuit training. I would be really surprised if that was correct and I'm really curious to see what other people with more knowledge will say about this.

This is the most inspiring thread I've seen on here (including all the amazing before and after stories!)!! When I realized I couldn't work out today (cleaning our gerbil's cage took too long and since we live in an apartment we can't work out too late or we will wake the people below us), I could have figured the whole…

I think you can even change your calorie settings under "tools" to add 1 pound a week. Then just make sure you hit your numbers! If I am under and I need to add calories at the end of a hard workout day, I'll saute some almonds, minced garlic, oregano, and chili powder in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Then I will take a…

People are very passionate about this topic here. =) With the above quote, the problem is that his question is like saying, "If you are trying to lose weight, why eat at all?" Obviously, you eat because your body needs fuel for everything it does - breathing, thinking, moving, circulating blood, etc. The reason you eat…

Hahaha yes I have been known to go look at food in a bakery (or sometimes just in my kitchen) for five or ten minutes. Somehow that makes me feel satiated enough to not eat it?

I just moved from Forest Hills (well, I was on the border - technically Rego Park) a few months ago! I was always afriad to ride because of the drivers, too! What has been your experience with safety? Any tips?

I'm curious to what other people will say about the intensity of the workout, but I just want to add that you probably can't have a calorie deficit during your pregnancy - and that definitely means being sure to eat back those exercise calories! Studies have shown that children who don't get enough calories in the womb are…

Thank you so much for all of your thoughts! This definitely confirms what I had already suspected but gives me hope that there is never a point where it's too late. I will be sure to offer my support and then be patient until that "I need to change" moment hits him.

I know! I was really shocked too. My husband was on MFP and telling me about all of these "eat back your burn" comments he'd been seeing. I'd been working crazy hard for MONTHS (working out 2-6 hours per day, eating 800-1200 calories, like I mentioned) and literally did not drop a pound. (Or, more accurately, the four…

You can also look around the boards and find a challenge to join - that will give you a community and friends to support and motivate you. Good luck and welcome!

This is just my opinion based on personal experience and growing up as the daughter of a dietitian - I think you should aim to eat a little more. But are you sure you are logging accurately? Looking through your diary, it looks like you do a great job of logging all of the components of a meal, but with all of the…

If it's your lower back, then probably yes it is incorrect form, especially if you are doing anything that involves laying on your back and lowering and raising your legs from perpendicular to the floor down to parallel to the floor and back up again. It means your core isn't strong enough to do this on its own, so it's…

I agree with everyone here. Your biggest and earliest "storage spaces" are often the last to go, and you just may have to be patient. BUT...sometimes it also has to do with what muscles are really tight on your frame. If your hip flexors (especially the illiopsoas) are really tight, you are probably carrying more muscle…

Congrats!!!! You are such a role model!!

I like this answer. Also, (I don't know if you are doing this already), eating back my exercise calories got me to lose weight again. And I've heard that either low sleep or a lot of stress will cause your cortisol levels to increase, which will make your body retain fat more easily. Finally, what are you set to lose each…

I don't really like that "you have to make a slave out of your body" bit. Yes, you have to learn to push yourself when you really feel like stopping and giving up, but in the end, it's much better if you and your body are on the same team, rather than treating your body (which is yourSELF, after all!) like it's the enemy.…

Can you do something else that makes you feel equally good, but isn't food related? Like calling a friend/sibling, or reading a book, taking a bath, or taking the time you would be going to the grocery store to take a short walk to wake yourself up a little? I also agree with people about not going to the grocery store…

This sounds so much like our friend - he is getting close to not being able to fit in our car, and often makes up excuses about his phone being broken/off/missing when we call him to get together. We really care about him, and I really don't want him to end up like your friend Joey! Thank you to everyone for your input so…

I agree with both of these. I definitely don't think the "cut-off time" is true - it has a lot to do with your metabolism, when you last exercised, what it is that you eat before you are sleeping, etc.
-
I agree with people who say continue therapy while making the diet/exercise changes suggested by MFP - it could be a powerful combination! Once you see that you CAN make positive changes in physical areas, it will help give you the boost and the courage to make positive changes in mental/emotional areas. Best of luck! You…

Ditto...are you eating back your exercise calories? It's a favorite topic here, and many of us (like me!) saw the weight only start to come off when we ate MORE. Before this, I was eating 800-1200 calories and exercising 2-6 hours per day and not losing anything.

This is me exactly! =) I am also an athlete, but a dancer (so I need to look skinny enough for my artistic director to renew my contract!). I think 145ish is perfect for that goal, but I'd like to be a little under at the end of the summer (maybe 142-143?) so I have some room to add some winter pounds, which I always do!!

One time, when we went out to eat somewhere the in-laws picked and I didn't have much say... The Olive Garden unlimited salad - it's like 95% iceberg lettuce, so I figured I could eat that and fill up on something light, rather than pasta or breadsticks, right? WRONG!!! 1 bowl of that was 1400 (!!!!!!!) calories! I would…

I'm sorry your husband's reaction will be, "Are you kidding me?" =( I think sometimes you just have to remember you can only change your body so much in one day. (And you can only change it HEALTHILY even less - remember the healthily-made, smaller changes are the one that stick!) So at a certain point in the day, you just…

Depending how old you are, be sure to stretch gently (especially at first) so that you don't tear anything. The center split (one leg to each side) depends entirely on how your hip sockets are built. You either can get it or you can't - stretching can only get you so far before your bones will just get in the way. If you…

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!! I hope it's amazing and memorable and beautiful! One of my worst meals was one summer at ballet camp...the home of crazy eating disorders trying to top each other. For dinner one night, I ate an entire large Papa John's pizza with two garlic butter sauces, an entire order of their…
