  • Hi Diamond Gals, I've finished both books and I'm growing fond of Agatha. I like what happens at the end of book #2. I've started The Idiot by Dostoevsky but that's over 500 pages so I'll read it piecemeal. I also have A Fountain Filled with Blood by Julia Spencer Fleming. I read her first book of this series - In the…
  • I finished the first book and am working my way through the second one. Does she seem a bit silly to you, or is that the British sense of humor?
  • I'll be starting later today. It turns out I got a book called "Introducing Agatha Raisin". It includes the Quiche of Death plus her second Agatha title, The Vicious Vet. So, I'm going to have an Agatha-a-thon.
  • that's a good choice. I found a paperback at the dollar store. It's a 24 book (TV show) with Jack Bauer as the main character. It'll be a quick read.
  • Excellent! I will start a new topic soon. Yes, the weather in California is good (for California) but I sure miss those 80+ degree days in Florida. My feet are cold all the time now.
  • That book sounds good to me - Agatha Raisin by MC Beaton. It seems she has written 2 dozen Agatha Raisin books, so did you want to start with the first one - Agatha Raisin and the Quiche of Death? Almost all of her books got 4 stars on Good Reads. On this website:…
  • Yes! I was inspired by The Paris Wife and Ernest's book has many familiar-sounding people and places. I find Hemingway's style tedious; I always preferred F. Scott Fitzgerald. The run-on sentences are a bit much, but I am determined to forge on. I absolutely Love the " detective, adventure crime etc type " genre, so if you…
  • Yeah, I loved this book! I'm looking at flowers in a whole new way. My daughter worked in a group home for about 2 months and she couldn't stomach it. The rules were too oppressive and the guy in charge made thinly veiled demeaning statements to the girls. Let's begin thinking of ideas for November. I'm a bit confused -…
  • I started Language of Flowers yesterday and I can't put this book down. I'm about 1/3 through it. Great pick!
  • I haven't heard of CJ Box. I try to read books where women are the heroes. But I do try to keep an open mind if a male is the hero and the book is really, really, good then I'll give it a try. I hear you on the redundancy problem. That's why I stopped reading books about Stephanie Plum.
  • The book sounds good - Language of Flowers. So, unless L can't find it, let's go with it. I just finished the newest Kinsey Millhone book - W is for Wasted. I thinks it's a good one; the author's writing style has matured, or she has a better editor; I'm not sure which.
  • I really felt for Hadley and I'm glad she ended up in a good place; I just wish she had married someone she loved the second time around. I think many old men go through a phase where they think their first wife was something special, but I wonder if it's just more about reminiscing than admitting a mistake. I know my…
  • Hi L! Hi everyone! Driving through rainy Fl today. Was in St Pete and am making my way to south florida. Have a great day everyone.
  • L - I, too, am happy for you getting a little breathing room. You certainly deserve it. S- I've not heard of Language of Flowers and there seems to be more than one book titled that; I wonder if you are referring to the novel or about the anthology? I finished the Paris Wife and I absolutely loved it. When L is finished…
  • To be outrageously happy
  • Yes, I started the Paris Wife and I'm on page 45. I'm enjoying it - they're still in the blush of an early, platonic romance. She has many warning signs, apparently she doesn't take heed to them! I like the writing style and I'll continue reading the book. How do you feel about Oct-Dec? I know people get busy during these…
  • Hi Diamond Gals, I am reading - but I'm reading a different book. I picked it up at my brother's house and I can't put it down. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for an easy mystery and so I picked up David Baldacci's The Forgotten in paperback from Walgreens. It's just an easy, no hassle read with short chapters. So I feel…
  • This month I'm going to spend most of my time at brother's house in St. Petersburg. You're not going to believe this, but he has dial-up internet service. I may not be able to check in with you very often, but I'll be reading. I had to have my cat put down so I'm taking a breather to get away from the everyday doings.
  • August has been a busy month! I want to keep the group low-stress and a happy place to be, so no worries about finishing a book this month. Let's pick it up again in September with the Paris Wife or whatever you all feel like reading. I'm going to the beach!
  • Paula McLain wrote Paris Wife; but you've probably figured that out by now. I've been having trouble sleeping at night so I'm snoozing during the day. Usually a good book will put me right to sleep. Did you look at Paris Wife? What's the consensus? There's only 7 day left!
  • I like #2 and #5.I think #2 makes you look the slimmest plus is has paisleys which were "in"40 years ago. I do like #5 too because it draws your attention up and the color is fun.
  • Do you want to wait for the book, or did you want to switch over to the Paris Wife?
  • Congratulations on passing! I started the book last night. It's slow so far and no giggles, but I'm hoping it picks up soon. Hope I didn't pick a dud.
  • Thank you for this post; it was exactly what I needed to hear.
  • I was thrilled when I did my laundry today - I found my Sony reader in the hamper. I must've been really tired when I was unpacking.
  • That sounds good to me! Solidarity with L.
  • You're on the home stretch. Best of luck studying!
  • That sounds good; I like historical fiction. If that book is more available, we could swap it out for this month. What do you think? I found Native Tongue on Amazon for $.01 and paid $3.99 shipping. Not too bad, I guess. I bought it from a dealer in Florida so it should arrive soon. That being said, I am more than willing…
  • I just got back from California. I left my Sony reader at SFO! The agony! I don't have the book yet, either. I'll have to find a hard copy somewhere.
  • I finished the book. I enjoyed it; however I wish it had a little more holiday in it - if the author had just described holiday decorations as part of describing the scenery, that would have helped remind the reader of the time of year. But I did like the mystery and it certainly had some unusual circumstances. It's…
