  • How do you like the Girl on the Train? Have you any suggestions for a February/March book? I'll suggest The Glass Castle, or The Ocean at the End of the Lane, to start off the choosing.
  • OK, well I guess everyone did figure out the new thread. L - love the story about your son's new place. It's fun to watch them figure things out on their own. I'm reading " An Uncommon Education" by Elizabeth Percer. I found it at the dollar store, but it's very good anyway.
  • I think, somehow, you didn't get a notification about the January book thread. I named it "The Girl on the Train January Book" Can anyone see it? Perhaps I put it in the wrong place . . .
  • I'm thinking that this author doesn't like men very much
  • I'm half way through this book now and it's very good. Have you received your copies yet?
  • L - Vegas! How fun! Agatha is a bit nutty, and truthfully, I'm not so sure I want another man. They are a lot of work. A good friend would be nice, though. You will love being an empty nester because you can be selfish and that is so decadent. M - Thanks for your good thoughts about my daughter. She is recovering quite…
  • Thanks, M. The length doesn't matter to me. I look forward to hearing any ideas L may have. In the meanwhile I'm going to start a Stephen King novel.
  • Both of those books sound intriguing to me. I'm going to let you two pick because I'm caring for my daughter and the baby right now. My daughter had a bad gallbladder attack on New Year's Eve and was hospitalized so it could be removed on the 1st. Christmas was interesting. We ended up eating at Burger King. No comment…
  • With Badger's Drift, it was interesting how different the character of the daughter is portrayed, as well as the personality of Barnaby, as compared to the tv show. Agatha Raisin is as taciturn as ever, but forthright when she does speak. Its clear I've missed a lot of material between reading the first novel, and the…
  • Good luck with the parties, L. You can do it - there isn't anything new there that you haven't already eaten. So you know what it tastes like. I'm about 3/4 done with the December book, and looking forward to finding out who did it. I also finished Badger's Drift awhile back and loved all the extra details not included in…
  • I'll set up a new topic for December book. I haven't finished Badger's Drift yet, I'm looking forward to see if it ends the same way the TV did.
  • By the way, did any of you see the movie Wild? It wasn't quite as detailed as the book obviously, but I think it captured some of the best parts.
  • Sure, let's see what Agatha Raisin is up to at Christmas. I was wondering if anyone has read any of the older female authors of mysteries - Margaret Millar, Charlotte Armstrong, Elisabeth Holding, or Dorothy Salisbury Davis. If so, what did you think? Does it interest anyone to try one of these older books next year?
  • So, I "lost" the Nevada Barr book, but, while groping behind the bed for it, I found the Badger's Drift book, so I'm back on that now. LOL I love the unpredictability of life.
  • Hi everyone. L - thanks for the review of X. I'm sorry to hear it was boring, maybe she is just forcing herself to finish the series. I'll probably read it anyway, because I'm the same way. It sounds like I'm missing a good read with Year of Wonders, but I probably won't get to it. I read about 1/2 of Badgers Drift and I…
  • Arrived in California and been busy with the move-in. Am reading Badger's Drift and I have to say I really like it - as a complement to the tv show, I think you learn more about what everyone is thinking and observing. L - you are inspiring me; I would love to feel well-toned again.
  • Hi, M, I used to have a Meyer Lemon tree and loved it, too, so I would be watering as much as it needed. I'm lucky I don't have to do any yard work. The owner of the house in California has hired a gardener for us and the front yard is rock and bushes. I'm too sentimental to stay more than a year, I think. I can't stand…
  • Hi, I'm finally back, but am now busy clearing out my apartment because I've decided to move back to California for awhile - actually probably I'll stay a year. I only have a week to finish. Badger's Drift is still at the top of my list. Hope all is well with you two.
  • I've been reading a book my cardiologist recommended - Before the Heart Attacks. I still want to read Badger's Drift. I'm leaving in less than a week for California so I'm really busy. I'll be back in September. Would anyone like to pick a book for September?
  • We could start with her first Midsomer novel, The Killings at Badger's Drift.
  • Leg cramp meds work great after the cramp begins but I got mine to stop by taking vitamin B12. I also take vitamin D and CoQ10. Best of luck.

  • When this happens to me, I allow myself extra fruits all day, I make sure I drink a green smoothie every day, and I drink peppermint tea at night to quell the sweet tooth. Best of luck!
  • Revisit your goals; try to remember why you are doing this; why you started; why you want to get healthy. Throw away the rearview mirror, stay positive and believe in yourself.
  • Hi! I'm about 40 years older than you, but wanted to congratulate you on your first baby. Wishing you all the best!
  • Just read the recent information about DDT and breast cancer in moms and their girl babies, and you will have answered your own question. I know we don't use DDT anymore, but who can guarantee that 50 years from now scientists won't be saying the same thing about roundup and sevin. I always eat organic. But, I've had…

  • Have a wonderful vacation, M. Still going to Michigan? I think a break in July is a good idea for me, too. I haven't received the June book yet, so I'll be reading Edge of Evil in July. For the future, I'm wondering if anyone has read, or is interested in reading something by Caroline Graham.
