Yes, let's choose the Kingsolver book for September. It will be a good airplane read. I'm also going to bring the Secret Life of Bees because it's thin, and then I'm going to watch the movie. If you hear back from Lenore, let me know. I'm sure work will settle down soon; well, I'm not sure of that, but I hope it will.

I finished the Orchardist. You are right that the book is hypnotic. I have to add that some of the writing was unintelligible. It sometimes resembled a stream of consciousness, rather than an actual thought. This left me unable to decide what the writer was trying to say. I did appreciate the slow pace set in the book - it…

I'm starting this months book tonight. Glad to hear the book is hypnotic and well written. That's a good combo. Barclay's book was an easy read and the plot was interesting, but a bit sad. He may not write happy endings. However, according to the dust cover, one of his books was optioned for a movie, so I may read that one…

The synopsis of The Hypnotist sounds intriguing. I might look at that one. I have 5 other books waiting for me right now. I just received this month's pick, but I'm finishing up something else - A Tap on the Window by Linwood Barclay. It's a bit dark so far, but I do like a mystery.

Waiting for my book to arrive, but have read the first few pages online in a free preview and it sounds super good!
-
Why don't we get started on the Orchardist and hope our friend L can get away from work to join us.
-
I like that one

Well, I woke up at 3 am in the trough of my overly deflated bed and finished What Alice Forgot. I think it was absolutely charming. I don't know if I expected that ending, or was just earnestly hoping for it, but in any case it seemed like the perfect ending to me. For some reason, I thought Lenore chose the 007 book; my…

I'm not quite finished with the book, but I will soon. I like this book. However, it is time to pick an August book and I believe it's Mady's turn. Have you given any thought to a book choice?
-
Mady - You are really going to like #5! I find I'm reading more lately because of my bed, rather than my new place. I have an aerobed. It was supposed to be a temporary arrangement until I bought a real bed, but I have found it to be so comfortable, I am loathe to get anything else. However, my cat recently punctured it,…

I've been waiting for my book, and in the meantime, I've read The Pact and The One and Only. Both pretty quick reads, a little light on content. I'm now reading Julia Spencer-Fleming's 5th book All Mortal Flesh. That one's very good so far, but you know I'm a fan of this series. Oh, I realized I'm still waiting for this…

This puts way too much stress on your internal organs; heart, kidney. Please don't continue this way.
-
That's terrific. Do you attribute that to something specific you are doing or eating, or to weight loss in general. Mine are pretty stubborn so I'd like some advice.

I didn't personally research this; I'm just sharing what my own doctor has told me. I'm sure it doesn't apply to younger or simply healthier people. What I want to say is that, if I could do it all over again (I'm 60 years old), then I would have made some more informed choices when I was younger so that I did not end up…

I got this information from my doctor. But, you see, I have insulin resistance/prediabetes and high triglycerides. If you don't have those things, you're doctor would likely be OK with your program.

You can get away with a lot when you are young. But when the body begins to age, it does get hurt by this eating regime you are describing. That is, eating this way does not keep blood sugars stable and also it can lead to higher triglycerides; and probably other negative metabolic consequences that I'm not aware of. So,…

Just the thing I've been looking for. Thanks.

Sorry about that! I didn't pay attention to book dates. How about these? 1) What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty, or 2) Orphan Train: A Novel by Christina Baker Kline Having a nice summer here; hope the hot spell broke for you in California. 105 degrees; whew!

Hi all, I did finish the book; I think the author tried to stay true to Asimov. I always thought the movies were much better than the books; the actors put some life into the words. I do have 2 ideas for July: 1) The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin; or alternately, 2) The One and Only by Emily Giffin Either…

You have to experiment and see what's good for you. I'm in an older age group and I find I will not lose weight if I eat more than 1 serving of fruit a day, even if I stay within my calorie limit. If you are young and otherwise healthy, you may not need to concern yourself with fruit sugar. Good luck!

You're doing well in so many other ways. There is a possibility this may be something you cannot control. If you're satisfied with your macros then you've done all you can do, right?

Oh, I thought he was in a mental hospital, oops! The mom deserved to be in jail because she didn't do the right thing by her middle daughter; if mom had done the right thing by turning her in, she would probably serve time until she was 21 but then get out; and, mom could have kept the family together and potentially…
