Lenore - Yes it's your turn to pick for February. Mady - Since I took your place in January, why don't we swap - you take March and then we'll keep that rotation, that is: February - Lenore March - Mady April - Mary May - Lenore; and so on. If Jody Ellen joins in, she would come between Mady and Mary. JodyEllen, are you…

I haven't read it and it looks really good!

When it's my turn to pick, I will be choosing another Kingsolver book!
-
That was only the first bad decision he made! I kept saying oh no jacob most of the way through half of the book. I guess that's what it's like to be 23 and on your own for the first time. He did start making some good decisions later. I'm finished now and it was an easy read but it seemed as if the story had only begun…

Just finished Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver. It was a pretty-near perfect book for me. Biology and science wrapped up in a totally engaging story. I recommend it. Now, on to Water.

I take things that give me feedback. If I take a supplement and it doesn't do something noticeable, I quit it. Right now I take: Centrum multivitamin for women over 50; this gives me energy Coq10; this helps stave off muscle cramps Vitamin D; I was really low once and that was a horrible experience so I take 2,000 mg a day…

I used to run back in the 80's and I used Gloria Esteban a lot. That dance beat mix music they make now might work also because it's so evenly spaced.

Hi Hollis, That's terrific that you were able to lose weight and add so much movement. When I last worked, I would walk up to 8 hours a day on my job and I loved being outside so much. Right now I am able to do weight training as long as I can be seated. I'm especially keen to keep my quads strong to support my knees and I…

Hi everyone, My name is Mary. I'm currently in a living transition; that is, last year, I rented out my house in California and I spent 6 months living in Florida near my son and his fiance; for the last 3 months I have been living with my daughter and her fiance-to-be (hopefully). My hope is to find a way to live on both…

Count me in, too. I'm 58 and would love to lose 40 pounds in 2014. My body feels my current age, but inside I'm still 21; I would like the outside to match the inside age.

Safe trip, Lenoresaari! My Barbara Kingsolver book just got engaging so I haven't started Water yet. Let me know how the first chapter is; I might be tempted to switch! Mary

Welcome JodyEllen. We would love to hear from you. Keep checking in from time to time and join in when you can.

I found a copy at a used book store today so I'll start it today or tomorrow.

Hi Diamonds, Steppingstones - I'm so sorry to hear that your husband was sick again; sure glad he will be home soon. I'm going to suggest our January book be Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Alternate suggestions are welcomed. Mary

A Year-end Retrospective We’ve read some good books this year, and maybe a yawner or two. Here’s a summary of what we’ve accomplished. November 2012 (picked by a vote): Our group was started in October 2012 and our first book pick was in November 2012. It was The Shallows by Nicholas Carr, about the changes to our brain…

And another thing (just a personal rant here) why does every movie about the true meaning of Christmas involve a death of a loved one? My daughter says it's meant to symbolize the death of the old year, but I'm skeptical. It's just depressing. I'm all for comedies and love stories around the holidays.

L - I'm sorry you have to work on Christmas Day  I hope you are getting double-time-and-a-half for that. But, the silver lining may be that your daughter is cooking! Is she an adult? This used to happen to me every year because we had a 365 operation at the park. Over time I really grew to miss the cooking but I never…

I'm finished with the book, too. Only 16 days to go! At least I've purchased a few things. I'm going to my daughter's boyfriend's mom's house for Christmas so I don't have to prepare anything; woo-hoo!

I don't think this amount of weight gain is possible, based on what I've been eating. So my new starting weight will be 219.4 and my new goal weight…

SW: 222 CW: 211.4 GW: 209.4 Weigh in Dates: 12/1 211.4 12/8 12/15 12/22 12/28 I have a modest weight loss goal because both of my knees need replacement and I can only do chair exercise. Is anyone else in the same boat?

Betty Boop is from Universal Studios Orlando. I received Christmas Jars and , since it is about 100 pages, I'm half finished. Happy reading!

Sounds like a perfect afternoon snack. The bit about broiling the outsides was new and sounds like a big improvement. Thanks!

1 lb stew meat, cubed 1 pkg frozen "vegetables for stew" (potato, carrot, onion, etc) 1 can campbell's golden mushroom soup 1 pkg dried mix for beef stew 1 can beef broth coat the beef with the packet of dry mix for beef stew (I toss it in a ziplock). Put meat in first, then add everything else to the cooker, cook 9 hours…

You and me both (the umpteenth million time). Be tough and hang in there!

I forgot about the Christmas books. If we do that, these 2 sounded good: Christmas Jars by Jason Wright or The Christmas Note by Donna VanLiere Of the books you mentioned, The Forgotten Garden sounds the most intriguing to me. And, yes, I've been keeping up with the Stephanie Plum series. I like her books, although they do…

Hey Diamond Book Club ladies - I believe, according to the original rotation, it is SteppingStone's turn to pick a book. I can hardly wait to see what you have in store for us!
