The medical explanation of what I am going to say is too long for this board. You can look up many of these facts though. I'll try and save you some time: First - it's reported that you need at least 100 grams fo carbs per day to feed the brain. You don't want a shortage of mind food. Second - Protein intake - stardard…

So here's a story. First, I understand your difficulty. Years ago - decades ago - 1980s to be exact - a woman I dated was a health food "nut". She was into Organic everything, pure everything, stone cut oats, etc. I was an Athelete who was very active and going to medical school. I resisted her attempts to change the way I…

Don't get discouraged. Both posters above make valid points. Truth is that it's hard to predict when your weight will go down. It does though. My Mom (after seeing my progress) began her journey. She became very discouraged when after three weeks her weight was the same. Then (for what ever reason) she got on the scale the…

Just as an example of what I was talking about (Optim Nutrition is better than Synthr-6. Check out thecholesterol numbers for Synthr - 6 Serving Size: 1 Rounded Scoop (44g) Servings Per Container: 30 Amount Per Serving: Calories 200 Calories from fat 50 Total Fat 6g 9% Saturated Fat 2g 10% Cholesterol 60mg 20%…

Are you talking Oh Yea Chocolate mint wafers or Zone Perfect? or some other product? Bulk Nutrition sells several.

Check the numbers out on MFP calories 147 (not bad) Protein 25 grams one scoop (50 two) 3 grams fat 1 gram sat fat 30 grams cholesterol Sodium 60 Sugar 2 Fiber 1 Carbs 5 (Net carbs 5 - 1 fiber = 4) All in all not bad if it tastes good...however just using Jay Robb as an example (I do not promote any particular Whey) - Jay…

Muscle Milk numbers are also for two scoops. The nutritional information provided by the company is as follows: As you can see it's calorie count is very high compared to the others (because it has more fat = 9 calories per gram, protein 4 cals per gram, carbs 4 calories per gram). It's very high in bad fat (ie saturated…

Just looked this up to check it out for myself: The Actual Smoothie Kind Gladiator Strawberry is two scoops 45 grams of protein - if you did two scoops of Jay Robb for example you'd be at 50 grams of protein - not that more is better mind you - MFP has the calorie count of Smoothie King Gladiator Strawberry at 270…

Your Whey is 35 grams of cholesterol per scoop. Not bad, but you can do better. GNC 5, Jay Robb 0. Why add cholesterol when adding whey protein. It makes no sense to me to look good on the outside and mess up the inside. I know someone who is loosing weight doing Adkins and eats lots of bacon and is losing weight. Get the…

Guidelines for Protein intake and some facts: These recommendations come from several sources. One is SCAN - The Sports, Cardiovascular Wellness. Health and Nutrition website - recognized by licenced Nutritionists. Normal Kidney function is important so have yours checked before you embark on high protein intake. Protein…

This is a perpetual problem for many who actually track it. You're right. By cutting carbs the amount of fat can go up and that can also go up with protein intake (as can cholesterol). I find supplementation with items that are high protein and/or high fiber and low cholesterol. Examples: Jay Robb Whey Protein Shakes - 110…

Currently between types.. Closer to Otter....going for centered between Otter and Athletic. Ripped might be too much for what I like to do..dance, sometimes competitively. I need a lot of flexibility. However, great core work has helped me a lot. Looking for more....but it burns so dang much! LOL Created by…

Several people have given you excellent answers. I will preface my anwswer with "I am not a nutritionist nor do I pretend to impersonate one". That said, I reached my goal just fine eating under my calorie counts for many days on end. However, as an educated poster said, I did also lose lean body mass as well along the…

I'm sure somewhere in this thread someone probably said what I'm about to....but here we go: Weight Loss - If all we are talking about is weight loss, and not health, obesity, disease, etc...then consume less calories than you utilize. It's that simple...and then again, it's not. BMR - Here's the problem with using…

Looks great and this I'm going to try!

Breaktime :-) Anyone up for strength training, cardio, then dinner? LOL

Agree with the main point above (Moderation). As far as I can tell the jury is out on IF (Intermittant Fasting) and obviously this isn't for everyone. It's also tempting to "buy" into the next new idea (which sells books). I try and keep an open mind and do what makes metabolic sense...but this requires constant reading,…

The Benefits of Breakfast - To Eat or Not To Eat: Disclaimer: I am not a nutritionist or health expert. That said, there is a benefit for some atheletes and non-atheletes to breakfast or dividing meals and snacks into frequent or smaller amounts. First, if you take it just from the standpoint of weight loss and…

Thanks for the post. I love these myself. I alternate chicken and shrimp. We have a very large Vietnamese community here..they are wonderful!

Any way you want it

Also an excellent point Scott. This does appear to be the real issue and thanks for suggesting that the decline in added calorie benefit is small even after years of running. I'm not an Olympian, nor at this time am I a "serious athelete" any more. I run 60 miles a week and swim about 10. Just started any exercise about 4…

Brian, I agree and points well made. HRMs work well for most people. Some people have factors that do not allow them to utilize HRMs like the rest of us. If you have an irregular heart rate or one that is artificially suppress by medication (beta blocker for example), calculating calories burned using a HRM is problematic.
