  • I have to agree with everyone else here...I get that way when I'm hungry, whether I've just worked out or not. I don't remember being like that when I was younger, but within the last few years I've noticed it more and more. Eat at least a little something as soon as you finish working out and see if that helps. :-)
  • I have to agree with you on this one. My gallbladder was perfect until I spent 18 months on a low-fat diet several years ago. Before I had any clue that I could "fix" it myself with a different diet, I had mine removed. Even the surgeon agreed it was likely caused by my low-fat diet kick. It is becoming common knowledge…
  • Thank you both for the tip about Hormel Natural Uncured Bacon! I had never heard of it or noticed it at the store. I will definitely be looking around to see if any of my local stores carry it. I hope it's not something that is only available in big cities. I was lucky enough to find a local farmer and get a 1/4 of beef…
  • Thanks for sharing this article! All of it was enlightening, but I especially appreciate the table of fruits with their fructose values and this section of the article: "Your consumption of carbohydrates, whether in the form of grains (including whole grains) and sugars (especially fructose), will determine whether or not…
  • Whole grain carbs are still carbs and according to the glycemic index they have about the same effect on your blood sugar/insulin spike as many white carbs. Source: http://www.glycemicindex.com/ The higher the GI value, the greater the impact a particular food has on your blood sugar/insulin levels. The lower the GI value,…
  • Most lower carb diets will explain that you will be replacing a lot of your carbs with fat. If you didn't, you would simply not be getting enough calories. For example, if you ate 100 grams of protein in a day, that is only 400 calories because protein has 4 calories per gram. Fat has 9 calories per gram so if you only ate…
  • I have to agree with the others - 10.9 stone = 152. So it depends on the calculator and how you are entering your weight and whether or not you actually weigh 10 stones, 9 pounds OR 10.9 stones. :-)
  • I have to agree with Heather. I would eat normally now. One day where you splurge will not hurt a thing! Definitely celebrate your birthday and enjoy yourself. In the meantime, just follow your plan that you know works for you. :-)
  • Awesome! And insane! I hope you all have a great weekend. :-)
  • Thank you! That does help. In the cooler months, I do cook a lot of my beans from scratch, but in the summer, I just can't stand the extra heat in my small house so I use canned. And I do rinse my canned beans, but I didn't know that I was cutting the sodium by doing so. Also, I had never heard of sodium free bouillon…
  • I guess I should have mentioned that - I do NOT have any problems with my blood pressure or any other health issues that would warrant a low sodium diet. Until a few days ago, I wasn't having my food diary track sodium so I had no clue. But when I added that nutrient to the diary, I noticed my intake was higher than the…
  • Thanks for your input everyone. I guess I should have been clearer in my question though. I realize that sodium intake matters for overall health. But what I'm wondering is if anyone knows if it has a direct and negative impact on weight loss, fat burning, etc.?
  • Hi, My name is Dawn. I'm 36, 5'4" and 233 lbs and flying my rainbow flag. I am hoping to lose 75+ pounds in the long run. I joined MFP a couple of months ago and started tracking my calories and exercise but hadn't made any friends until now. I'm just starting to find more friends here and hopeful that a group like this…
  • Hi! I'm from the midwest too. I live right between two corn fields smack dab in the middle of Illinois! Ideally, I would love to lose close to 100 pounds! I wish I could say I'd lost 30 already but my body is as stubborn as I am so I've lost and regained the same 3-4 pounds repeatedly over the past several months. I'm…
  • You look AWESOME!!! Keep up the great work! You ROCK!
  • Thank you all for the replies. I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to reply and reach out! I hope that we can all learn a lot and help each other along the way. If we pool our knowledge and experience and help keep each other on track, I know that we can ALL lose a ton of weight and gain better…
  • I'm well aware of the "numbers" it takes to lose a pound of fat and I'm sure that these 6 pounds are not all fat, but rather fluid built up in my body. My urine is clear to pale yellow, no way dehydrated. The "water" I'm losing must be coming from inflammation -- which is very unhealthy. But I was NOT able to lose the…
  • Were you eating 1200 calories and exercising this much for a long time or have you just started that recently (when you started losing weight rapidly)? I guess with hypothyroidism conventional wisdom doesn't mean much but generally speaking (aside from the hypothyroidism), someone of your weight and activity level should…
  • My aunt has experienced similar rapid weight loss since going on her thyroid medication a few months ago. She goes to the gym most days and watches what she eats just like you and she lost a large amount of weight in the first few months and now that she has less to lose (is closer to her goal), the weight loss has slowed…
