I liked them baked, with just salt and pepper. I find they are moist enough to not need butter.

The last potluck I went to, I brought a colorful black bean salad with a lime dressing. Black beans, tomato, onion, tri-color peppers, corn, avocado, etc.

This thread is making me hungry! I like to get a veggie (or chicken) burrito bowl with brown rice and black beans. Top with lettuce, a bit of each of the salsas, and some hot sauce. No cheese or sour cream, no guac, and don't even think about the chips!

I eat what I want, when I want -- as long as it fits into my daily calorie goals.

I make sure I'm hydrated and do it anyway (within reason, and listening to my body as I go). Or you can wake up early to get at it before it gets too hot for you.

At my old gym there was a guy, about 30 years old, who always wore nice jeans and Doc Martens when lifting.

Instead of ditching him, why not talk to him about what you want to do? Cardio also has some great health benefits, and I do think it probably has a place in your training program, but I wouldn't feel I was getting my money's worth if my training sessions were eaten up on the treadmill!

Cook for 2, or 3 or 4, and portion out those extra servings (to go in the fridge or freezer) before you sit down to eat.

As mentioned, fartleks are a great training tool. You could also add in some hill workouts and more structured intervals. And, as with all things related to health and fitness: be patient.

The best shoes for running are a pair that fit your feet and address any motion control needs. Go to a specialty running store to have your feet checked out and gait analyzed -- they will be able to recommend shoes good for YOUR feet and stride.

I got some pretty gnarly marks on my stomach from rapid weight gain as well -- much redder and uglier than the ones I've had on my hips since puberty. Since losing weight, the color has faded significantly and they aren't very noticeable any more.
