I'm not sure where you are located, but here in Chicago the YMCA has a great class called Strike Development and I took two sessions of the class so I could become a better swimmer as I never did lap swim and needed to learn to do a recent Triathlon. Our city park districts also offer classes, and we have many certified…

Hi Melinda-- I'm from OHIO originally (Cleveland area), and I think this is such a great cause so I would love to support you. Maybe next year I will be in condition to do a half :) - Have a great time, and what a great achievement you will have under your belt!

I love to kickbox also, I do it through our YMCA & the gym @ my work - which we have a Corp membership (so it's cheap), the classes are included in the monthly fees for both places I use. ETA - to answer second Q: Yes it does wonders for the body, but remember to do a variety of exercise types - when I just did Kickboxing…

I am/was at my goal weight, and now I am going to concentrate on my abs- actually more of my love handles. I think it's totally possible but diet is the key for great abs - not sits ups as many people think. I think swimming and running really helped me a lot. I did loss over 3 inches already in my waist, and would like to…

do you mean those are not your killer ABS in the picture  And if they are I'm sooooo jealous. Thanks for the advice. I guess the best outcome would be to continue to do what I'm doing and become more lean, which would enable me to reduce my body fat and see if I naturely fit into those size 6!! - it's just when I…

Great article - it speaks the truth. I found that changing my eating habits made all the difference. I was worried about having health issue in the future and wanted to prevent them now in my 40's as I see the affects that they have in my elder mother and sisters. I don't want to have high blood pressure, become diabetic…

Sounds like you get caught up in office drama, and this should be about you and your heathly life style. You are doing great and others tend to have to say something when they see changes. Keep up the good work, and don't let them get to you. I lost 25 lbs and I actually like all the complements I receive at work, but like…

size charts are based on measurements not pounds, so it's different for each person. I would say on average it's 10-12 lbs. but depends really where you carry you weight. Here's a stadard size chart I found which provides both measurments and weight for an avg. women. Catalog misses' sizes: 5'5"-5'6" (165–168 cm) tall,…

You are doing great. building muscle is tough and it shows through your change in measurements - not in weight. Keep up the great progress!! Your body is becoming more lean and your metabolizing is getting higher/ more efficient. That's a healthy outcome.

I'm not sure where you are located, but here is Chicago the YMCA has a great class called Strike Development and I took two sessions of the class so I could become a better swimmer as I never did lap swim and needed to learn to do a recent Triathlon. Check into it as it was a great option.

I use the app: mapymyfitness.com and it nice because it times, counts calories burned, and maps your runs. I also think there is a 10K app C210K so that would be a great option. ETA: endurance options are Kickboxing, spinning and swimming - I love to mix it up and all are those are effienct calorie burning types. I still…

I was on a mission to train for an upcoming triathlon altough I wasn't a runner, swimmer or biker!! I took swimming classes once a week from Apr- Jul and started the C3k5 (couch to 5K) app to learn to run a 5k! I also enjoy doing Kickboxing and weight training. when you say lower body - are you doing squats in addition to calf raises. Try doing the pile squat on toes - great calf workout, and the frog squat - those are a killer. Do lots of reps, and don't worry about using weights as your body resistance is the best source. Here a few sites for reference.…

Muscle does not burn "kill" fat. When your body's % of muscle is increased you will burn more calories compared to fat, as you have increased your metabolism, The number of calories your body uses to carry out basic functions (such as breathing, circulating blood, adjusting hormone levels, and growing and repairing cells)…

I'm 5'5 and now at 138 (from 160) - so I reached my original goal. It took 6 months as I lost it by changing my eating habits, and varying my exercising types. My new goal is to reach 135 but will than aim for 130! Little by little I do healthy changes. I'm trying to build up my endurance with swimming and jogging - lots…

Have you measured yourself. Do the measurement portion on myfitnesspal and update if every month. You will see the inches decrease even if your weight only dropped a few pounds. This is because lean muscle that you are building is 30% heavy than fat. but, of course it is dense so while you are burning off fat, you are…
