Hi! I am 55 (56 next month) and I have been using this site since about 2012, though apparently I had set an account up a year earlier during which time I managed to loose 23 pounds! So I had a bit of a head start when I got serious about diet/exercise management! :) Total, I lost over 70 pounds, am a pescitarian, and…

I have been using the Fitbit Flex for over a year and have actually gained weight. I realize part of the issue is being post-menopausal, but could still use some supportive friends and ideas to get back on track! Feel free to add me! I log in almost everyday! Thanks! :)

I'm sure people have done it, but it certainly is't a "healthy" goal. Usually no more than 2 pounds per week is suggested and that is for grossly obese people whose life literally depends on this kind of weight loss. I lost a total of 80 pounds so you'll get the weight off... Relax and enjoy the journey!

I have arthritis (and now apparently tendonitis) in both of my knees. Right knee was the first to act up but the left one is catching up! :( Started on the weight loss path summer of 2012 and my progress has been almost stalled since my knee issues started May 2013. I've been trying to loose my last 10 pounds for the past…

I was introduced to it about 2 or 3 years ago at a smoothie place. I was told the same things you have read about. I couldn't tell it was in my smoothie, so the they either didn't use much or the taste was subtle. I have taken it as a tablet supplement off and on since that time and can't really say if it really had any…

That's why this site was helpful three years ago when I started to seriously focus on weight loss.... I, too, ate well. I just ate "a lot"! Portion control is important, bottom line! If you post what you eat you can quickly see how much of what is a good size!

I agree... I don't think Dr. Oz uses common sense in what he suggests to people for weight loss. :s I also don't think that wearing undergarments makes a difference one way or another. It reminds me of a neighbor I had when I was young that didn't want to start exercising until she lost her "fat" because exercise would…

I don't like green tea as a drink. I used the supplement variety and don't think it really made any difference what so ever. On a side note, I like to use matcha powder (an extract from green tea). It is high in anti-oxidants and has other heart health benefits. Prepared properly it can be low in calories and tastes much…

I have been using a Fitbit Flex since January 2015. While I can't say I've lost much more weight since it's inception, it does help keep me aware of calorie intake and expenditure, it merges nicely with this MFP site, and can also be accessed via a phone app. It holds a charge fairly well, also.

I agree with the person saying to make a "lifestyle" change. That is why this site is so good. You can eat anything so long as your intake stays within whatever criterion you have set up (calories, carbs, protein, etc.) While certain foods are obviously better for you than others, you should never completely eliminate any…

Thank you for the suggestions. I already use Chia seeds in my smoothies. What I did to loose the 50 pounds I continue to do now, that is cut out all meat except fish. There's a "fancy" multi syllable word for the type of diet I use but it boils down to a vegetarian that eats fish, eggs, and dairy, though I don't consume…

Currently at 185 day streak (though mine has reset a couple of times in spite of being on every day). Active user since June 2012!

I agree with the "weighing in" part. Use a measuring tape instead. You may have gained a small amount of muscle mass which weighs more than fat. So potentially you've "slimmed" down a bit but still weigh the same. Are your clothes fitting the same? Loser? Tighter? That is my guide. I don't care what the scale says…

I do a lot of Leslie Sansone's workouts, also. I used to have a link to a good site that listed numerous forms of activity and you could calculate calories burned. I forgot I lost all those bookmarks but here's a site that looks equally as useful. Hope it helps for future reference: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc

Being at a plateau for 3 weeks is nothing. I've had spells where my weight didn't change for a couple of months. And it's been as I got closer to my goal weight, so that made it more frustrating. I agree with some of the other posts I read (I didn't read all of them by any means, however), you need to eat enough so your…

I was in grad school (subbed for 1.5 years so my schedule varied from day to day sometimes) and started a regular teaching job back in January. My suggestion is to find recipes you like and cook 2 or 3 on the weekends. In all honesty, it sounds like a lot of work but I have found a number of them that I like and once I get…

I have two I like. The first one I have been using since last summer and has actually gotten rid of my acid reflux issues completely. You crush ice in a blender, add 1/2 cup almond milk, a banana, and a handgul of fresh baby spinach. I also add a scoop of protein powder. Blend until smooth. I recently started using another…

Oddly, I've been doing the JM Fastfit Kickbox workout fairly regularly without difficulty and just did the 30 day shred for the first time in a long time and am about to die! O_o The fact I have a cold may have something to do with it maybe? Excuses, excuses.... Time to mix up my workouts so I'll stick with this one for a…

I am now fitting in a size 12 jean myself after wearing a size 20 for a considerable length of time. Back in the day I considered myself "thin" I wore between a 10 and 12, so I am thankful to be back at this size again. I am 5'7" and right now sitting at 160 pounds. So my personal opinion is this is a good size to be at. I…

I agree with those who said your body is now in starvation mode. I just read an email from WebMD within the last week or two on this very topic and as crazy as it sounds, your body is holding on to whatever energy source it can because it "thinks" you are starving by eating less and burning up calories. Oddly, my daughter…

Do any of the Jillian Michael's workouts; for the most part, they are HIIT formatted. I am sure there are a lot of others but I like her style so am more familiar with them, plus you can do most of her workouts in like 20 minutes....

The sleepy time chemical mentioned is Tryptophan... an amino acide that is known to assist in sleep! I don't think it makes you sick at your stomach, however! I've noticed now that I have de-toxed off a lot of foods that I have suddenly consumed while my daughter is visiting that the other night I literally thought I was…

You just need to ignore comments like that. I am 52 and have been overweight for a number of years. I was under 130 until I had my daughter 20 years ago, but my goal weight is 140 and I am closing in to 160 right now. And I am fitting in size 12 jeans, so I really don't think your mom's comments are 100% accurate. No, I…

Even strength training employees some level of cardiovascular activity, though minimal compared to an actual aerobic workout. For those of us that are older and had quite a bit of weight to loose, that pretty much is the only real reason I have managed to loose the weight I have. And yes, I do add machines a couple times a…

I haven't used Insanity but did use a similar DVD set and got, what I consider, great results. No, I still don't have six pack abs, but considering I started at 200 pounds and am close to 160 and have already dropped from size 18 to 12, I think I'm doing fine! I was a "big girl"! I didn't expect to look like those folks in…

I belong to the Planet Fitness in Austin. I've been members at IFC, Bally's and a local place in Durham, NC previously. I am on the $15/mo plan simply because I am finishing school and not sure how long I will be in this location and it provides the ability to drop w/o any notice. I wish they had exercise classes (I just…

Programs like Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem are good for people who don't really want to take the time to learn how to understand calories, proteins, carbs, etc in the foods they eat. I got a life-time membership to Jenny Craig like 12 or 14 years ago (I heard later they wished they hadn't done that as they really lost a lot…

I think advice is coming in from fairly all perspectives, but if you are craving something (truly craving it, not just wanting it because you can't get it out of your mind) your body is lacking i "something". What in Taco Bell that is, I don't know. I know people shun off carbs in the diet but if you are hungry and have…

I eat nachos every couple of weeks and even a beer now and then! :D I have definitely changed what I eat since joining this site but can't say I have cut our anything except meat (and I wasn't a big meat eater to start off with, so it really wasn't that big of a deal!). I'll send you a request. I think I have logged on…

I agree with all others about the breaks. Even when I worked part-time, four hours an evening we got a 15 minute break. With 8 hours you should get at least 2-15 minute breaks plus a 30 minute lunch. Not sure what Michigan is into but it doesn't sound correct. Work related issues normally are national. Regardless, I take…
