  • I was thinking this same thing. A weak link is somebody who's not moving us forward. Everything else is progress. And progress is GREAT!!!
  • Saturday, 8/4: Long run. 1563 calories burned 871 miles. ROW ROW ROW our boat, gently 'cross the sea, merrily merrily merrily, Life is just a dream! Joe. Go Team.
  • Oh. My. God. I LOVE working out. LOVE IT!!! There is nothing on this earth quite like getting on my bike and going riding. Just me, my machine, and God's Green Earth for hours on end. Or going for a run and having that same feeling. Or that sense of accomplishment that comes from the hard workouts, like intervals. Even…
  • 8/2 1243 calories burned for 621 miles
  • I'm not sure this is the cause of your calf cramps, but: I'm a firm believer in matching my bike cadence to my run cadence. I have so few problems with transition when that happens. If I were you I would consider figuring out my two cadences and working toward matching them.
  • Check with your local tri club. Many of them not only have distance training plans, but dedicated distance training groups. I've never formally trained using a plan before, so I have no helpful comments there. This probably explains my amazingly slow finish times. Oh well. Nutrition: Okay, I like gels. But I don't use them…
  • When you say "toe clips", what exactly are you referring to? If you're referring to the old style pedal clips, with that big cage looking thing that you slide your toe box into, and yes it ALWAYS flips over, then jeez no wonder you're taking spills and having troubles getting in/out of them. If that's the case then my best…
  • Okay, here I go, Team Bling Chasers guinea pig. Skipper, feel free to read me the riot act if I do this incorrectly (ALWAYS a possibility...) 8/1: Run Calories burned: 976 Miles: 488
  • You might be a runner if: * "Sleeping in" means 5:30. * You can say the word "fartlek" and not even giggle. Even a little bit. (Okay, MAYBE a little, but not much.) * You know exactly what's meant, and can feel the pain in your head, of "Bloody Number 11". * You've ever reached for your deodorant and grabbed your Body…
  • Same way with my Mom.
  • Well of course you can do a half marathon. Piece of cake. Especially since you've already done 10. There's an old saying: A half marathon is a 10 mile run with a 5K victory lap. If you can do 10 you can do 13. You'll do just fine, and wonder to yourself afterwords why you got so worried about it.

  • I cannot tell you how much I love this story. I've finished last twice. And yes it's easy to see the "last" part of the sentence. But the truth is, it's much MUCH more about the "finished" part of it. And the fact that you PR'd? That's just gravy on the goose! You are amazing. Congratulations on your finish. And thanks for…
  • Hot races offer no PR's. Nor should they. What they DO offer is a golden opportunity - albeit one that will never be appreciated by someone looking at the race day numbers - to really dig deep down inside and figure out exactly who you are on race day. It may sound like bullbunky, or just another cliche, I suppose. But…
  • This is exciting news indeed! Congratulations! And, welcome to the wild and wacky world of triathlon. It's addictive, fun, sweaty, frustrating, exciting, life changing, beautiful, peace inducing, angering, blister and rash causing, but mostly just good old fun. Lots and lots of fun. Enjoy! TriJoe.
  • Why not just make your own? Then you have complete control over every ingredient.
  • Diet: IT IS NOT A DIET!!! It is a WAY OF LIFE!!! Exercise: IT IS NOT EXERCISING!!! It is a WAY OF LIFE!!! (Also, make it fun, or you won't keep doing it.)
  • A burpee box jump. That sounds about as enticing as running a marathon on a stair climber.
  • Thanks Butters! This is so cool!
  • We Americans, sadly, do like to pack in the calories. And to truly experience some of our culinary wonders, well... It won't be easy to stay under calorie budget. The best thing to do in my opinion is totally write off fast food. If you're going to go over, do it in style. And as we all know, fast food has no style, just…
  • The easy answer is, I try to correct whatever situation has me singing the blues. Not always easy, as it usually takes a pretty tough situation to get me really down in the dumps. An outdoors workout - in the sun to be exact - can help, especially in the winter. Sometimes, changes in weather can help. Like if we're in the…
  • This is amazing! Congratulations, and welcome to the triathlon club! It's a pretty addictive sport, for sure. There are some good triathlon groups worth joining. Lots of tips and ideas and just people checking in with their races and training. Hopefully we'll see you around there soon. Again, congratulations! This is…
  • I have 4. I just couldn't whittle it down to 3... Eggs, chocolate, coffee, and sriracha.
  • Phil, I bet you may actually be addicted. It's not that hard... A few years ago, I fought mightily to give up the bad fast foods - burgers, pizza, taco bell, etc. It wasn't easy, and I fell off the wagon quite often. But I got better at it. I found if I made the stuff myself, I could make it MY way, and have ultimate…
  • In the early days trying to figure out the girls' issues, we tried all the normally tried diets - (1) gluten free, (2) red meat free, (3) dairy free, (4) peanut/treenut free, and there were a few others. None of them worked. I kept reading and hearing from others that a lot of the time, it's not one thing, it's many…
  • Not necessarily IBS per se, but two of our daughters struggle with GI issues. We had one tested (the other will be tested shortly) and have found a laundry list of food sensitivities. Not celiac's, just sensitivities. The list includes: wheat/gluten, all citrus (namely, anything with citric acid), all dairy, all corn…
  • Quinoa cooks a hell of a lot quicker than brown rice, too! A big plus in my book. Complete protein from a grain! And not just any grain, a DELICIOUS grain! Quinoa is perfect for substitutions and integrations. It can be used for almost anything other grains are traditionally used for. Highly versatile. It comes in…
  • Welcome. To the dark side... Can't wait to hear what you're racing, how your training is going, and how race day goes. Keep posting! TriJoe.
  • My standard answer for everything is, "Go for it!" You can't do it if you don't try. There are "Obviously..." comments that need to be made: ** You gotta keep getting those runs longer through the summer. 5mile long runs won't cut it come race day. You should be able to get in at least a couple 10milers before race day. **…
  • I'm a stay at home dad, so yes I DO go to work in my super sexy underwear. If even that much sometimes. Oh the traumas my children will pay people to help them sort out in another 30 years...
  • Knock knock... {Who's there?} Flosser {Flosser who?} Flosser? I hardly even know 'er! We used to tell this to our kids every night at tooth brush time.
