What?? You're not bringing your food scale with you when you go to a cookout?? Of all things...! (just kidding of course) I'd like to hope the shop where you get the ice cream would list their nutritional information somewhere, either in printed or online form. If not, well you can always "guess" based on the database in…

Hi back atcha from FL!

I have a blog on Blogger that I've been periodically updating since I started my journey to get LAP-BAND surgery...chronicling all the road blocks I've run into and my progress. If you send me your email address I can send you an invite, as it's a private blog. I've been considering moving it over to this site; still…

With this site's help I tend to go "over" my recommended amount of 68g of protein most days. What I'd like to do is get some hard-numbers from people on a specific-calorie plan. I'll check out lapbandtalk. I'm good with cheese (reduced fat) but lunch meat isn't something I can tolerate, unfortunately...

Where did you purchase the small plates and bowls? That could certainly help me, as I also have the eyes-bigger-than-the-stomach syndrome. LOL Was not aware of them, but then also did not actively (or passively) seek any out. I shall check them out! They did stress protein, but did not specify quantity other than number of…

Thanks, I will check her out!

I know the band is different for each person...a friend of mine who had it done over 18 months ago has lost over 100 pounds since her journey began (which includes weight lost prior to surgery) but she lost considerable inches in the time after her surgery. I guess I was hoping for similar results (or even better results,…

I used to track everything on a spreadsheet; this site is WAY easier to do, and having a database of foods (even though there are many duplicates) is very convenient. I feel that the calories "allowed" to me are very high; in fact, the site doesn't take into consideration those who have had bariatric surgery and tend to…

A simple answer would be: Your healthcare provider may want you to be watching other things as well. When I was seeing a nutritionist, I had specific goals to not go over for calories, carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. 3500 calories is a pound of weight, and it's important to know that you're getting those calories from…

After having LAP-BAND surgery, I'm nearly convinced that BMI is just a way for insurance to approve (or disapprove) you from having something done. It simplifies the complexity that is a human body into a simple number. I've been told that the goal I want to get to would be unhealthy for me, yet it would be in the…

I was trying low carb for a long time but the weight eventually came back. I've since had LAP-BAND surgery and now my diet is more of what I can tolerate, with a focus on proteins (and obviously cutting out unhealthy carbs).

Anything by "Weird Al Yankovic". He has a number of food-related songs but really anything works...

Very good advice! I'm partial to this one: Don't sweat the petty things...and don't pet the sweaty things. --George Carlin

I was for a while, but also following it later on with a regular breakfast. I was told I can cut out the protein (shake) right after the workout and just have the breakfast (which didn't have much protein in it). This saves calories. I'm of mixed minds on it, but I'm also not a workout-aholic. If/when I get more into…

All pills I take have to be crushed or chewable, so when it comes to vitamins I take the following: Morning: Chewable multivitamin (Centrum) Evening: Chewable Vitamin C and a Chewable Calcium + D Supplement (Viactiv)

Getting a food scale was recommended by the nutritionist I had seen pre-surgery, and I have found it to be an invaluable tool. If you get one, be sure to use "grams" as opposed to "ounces" as it's much more accurate.

I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, other than maybe I should include my status in my profile. LOL

Not sure if your local library does it, but in my area you can check out videos of all kinds (including exercise) on DVD and keep them for a week. If they're not in high demand, you can re-borrow them until someone else wants them.

During the week I have an alarm set for 3AM. At 4AM I actually get up (it takes me a while to get motivated), so it's usually around 4:30 in the morning. The small fitness center in my apartment complex has 24-hour access and at that time I have it all to myself.
