  • You are doing it right and using your quads and hamstrings to control your pedal stroke rather than your body weight. I see that in a lot of cycle classes. Too low of a resistance on the standing hills and relying more on your body weight to push the pedals rather than the hammies and quads pushing and pulling.
  • I make protein pancakes. 1/2 cup oats processed into flour 1/4 cup cottage cheese 1/4 cup almond milk 1/4 cup egg whites. Blend all together and make like regular pancakes. I add blueberries and maple agave. You can also leave out the almond milk and add 1/4 cup of pumpkin. Add some pumpkin pie spice and they are also…
  • Does your gym have any classes? While it is not heavy lifting, I love Body Pump. It is more of a metabolic workout for muscle endurance but it has really helped with my strength. The instructors at my gym are also personal trainers so they stress form first over heavy lifting.
  • I tried to use my F-11 in the pool and was unable to get the HR transmitted too. I think the old style of strap/transmitter works in chlorinated water.
  • Take a look at http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/polar-products.html Great site where the different Polar HRMs can be compared.
  • I would be very cautious with the calorie burn also. I have a F-11 (didcontinued model) and the "Fit-test" set my VO2 like I was Lance Armstong and not an overweight middle-aged woman. The calorie calculation went up about 33%. I manually re-set it to an average VO2 and the calorie burn was more realistic. Let your…
  • If you are new to Pump, go really light on the weights the first few classes and concentrate on form. There are a lot of reps and timing changes. It is not like lifting in the weight area because of this. It is a muscle endurance class and not really "Strength Training" as you are not able to lift real heavy. That ssaid,…
  • A cycle instructor at my gym might be 5 ft tall and the bikes are fine for her so I am sure you would be fine.
  • I have read that article and did find it interesting and discussed with a few yoga instructors. I have been lucky that instructors that I have had stress that you must respect your body foremost and that yoga practice is a journey. Not everyone is as flexible nor should advanced poses be done without adequate instruction…
  • Love this!!! So right!!!
  • I wonder if Les Mills Pump is a scaled down version of the live classes? It is a great workout but there is a lot of potential for injury if you do not concentrate on proper form. I guess the potential for injury is there for any workout...From what I understand, there will also be an invitation to attend a live Les Mills…
  • There are 2 books I would reccomend for strength traning...New Rules of Lifting for Women and Female Body Breakthrough. A lot of great information. Also Oxygen magazine always has strength training in each issue.
