  • I'm curious how many of you have done heavy strength training before NROL4W. The numbers I see you ladies STARTING stage 1 with are heavier than I will probably be at when I FINISH stage 1. My next workout is 4B and I'm pushing myself as hard as I can and barely finishing my sets and causing myself all sorts of horrible…

  • yes, it's a better food tracker than anything I've found. Assuming they weren't charging a huge amount I would be willing to pay.
  • I can totally relate. The last few years I would get bronchitis and pneumonia every other month. It seriously affected my ability to exercise. Then last November I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer and while going through chemo and then my double mastectomy I stopped exercising completely. I was simply too exhausted…
  • In addition to what the others said, if you're not already using a food scale to measure your portions you might want to try that. Most people overestimate portion size so it is possible you are eating more calories than you realize. Also, there have been studies showing that many restaurant foods have as much as 20% more…
  • I'm 5'11, ~158 lbs and wear a size 12. What weight I have is all in my belly. Seriously, I look pregnant (my youngest is 16 months old, definitely not pregnant!). I'm okay with my overall weight but I've recently started weight training to try to reduce my overall body fat percentage and gradually replace it with lean…
  • They have a paid subscription but it isn't necessary. I've been using the free one for a couple of years. I did a trial of the paid and didn't feel it really was worth the price so I'm happy with the free service.
  • I'm severely potassium deficient too and am on supplements. I'm not sure if chemo and my other cancer treatments has contributed to the deficiency or not but it is bad enough that I get bad leg cramps and even heart palpitations when it gets really low. The first time I got heart palpitations I went to the ER because I…
  • Your before pictures look just like me. It is inspiring seeing your pictures and gives me hope that I can get there too if I stay dedicated.
  • If you do a deficit too much your milk supply will drop off. When I was exclusively nursing (my baby wasn't getting formula or foods yet) I set my counter to maintenance and I still lost weight because nursing a baby actually burns about 500 calories/day.
  • I don't really care if a particular food was or was not eaten by ancient populations, I just care about my health and how I feel. I'm curious about the paleo diet because I have friends who've tried it and found themselves feeling much better and healthier than they had in years. I'm thinking of trying it out for a month…
  • I walk or do other exercise during my lunch break. If you're concerned about the heat, you could always drop the child off at daycare early and then go walk a mile before work. I've got a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old and I'm going through cancer treatment right after work and my husband takes college classes 2 nights a week and…
  • Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I will do what you are suggesting and just try to cut down on non-paleo foods where I easily can and then wait to make the 100% jump into paleo after my radiation treatments are done. Perhaps if I'm cutting back gradually I can even make the carb flu mild when I go into it later.…
  • My 5 month old baby likes homemade Avocado baby food (I just pureed it with water in the food processor).
  • I've often wished that food labels would list ADDED sugars separately under the carbs section. I'm okay with naturally occurring sugars but I would like to track the amount of added sugars in my foods.
  • My boss uses Galloway and has completed close to 30 marathons both using it and without using it. He actually has faster times with the Galloway method (because his run intervals are able to be at a faster pace than what he would have to keep if he was going to run the entire time) and he recovers from the marathons faster…
  • Set the bar to whatever height matches the angle you need and then just do them against the bar. As the weeks pass try to gradually lower the bar closer and closer to the floor until eventually you can do them on the floor. Today I'm going to try 3 notches from the bottom :)
  • The book says 3 days is optimal but 2 days is sufficient. I usually do 2 days of NROL (I aim for 3 days but somehow it always ends up being 2) and 3 days of cardio . That can vary though since I'm always getting sick and have to take extra rest days frequently. Even though I'm only about half through with stage 1 I can…
  • It takes me about 30 min for Stage 1 workouts also.
  • I overeat when I'm sick too. I don't actually track when sick, but I know that I'm eating more than my alloted calories. I generally just figure my body needs those calories to give it the energy to fight off the infection and then get back on track when I feel better.
  • Just some encouragement for those TTC... I have PCOS and managed to conceive both my kids with the help of Clomid. PCOS does cause infertility, but many (unfortunately not everyone) can overcome it with the right treatments. Clomid is dirt cheap even if you don't have insurance. So if you have PCOS and you're having…
  • I'm not familiar with the Yamax, but I found the Omron to be very reliable and accurate. I would sometimes test out it's accuracy by counting out 100 steps and then checking to see how close the pedometer was. It was usually very close (within a couple of steps + or -). I wore that pedometer for over a year before I…
  • Birdy - Congrats on the good A1C level! I'm prediabetic and had really awful gestational diabetes with both my kids (ended up on insulin and had some complications). I'm really wanting to get my numbers down to "normal" rather than "prediabetic" without the use of meds when I go for a physical in June and I know they will…
  • Get the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women" . There's a group on here (abbreviated NROL4W). I've read the book and only done the first two workouts (3rd today) but it seems like a great program and tells you what to do for a full 6 months of workouts 3x/week. I was like you and needed a structured plan and this book's…
  • I understand what you are saying. For many many years I was one of those people who was super thin (137 lbs and 5'11" tall) but I was not at all healthy. I figured since I was thin that it was okay to eat fast food every day and never exercise. I wasn't healthy though, not at all. I couldn't even walk up a single flight of…
  • I didn't know that about Geodon and protein. That was one of many drugs my psychiatrist tried on me in the past and it did absolutely nothing for me. No good effects and no bad effects. I might as well have been taking a placebo. I wonder now if it is because I would take it at night before bed (no food). Interesting to…
  • Oh yes, I know some people gain just as much on Seroquel, I just happened to be one of the lucky ones who didn't. Which just proves the point that different people react differently to different drugs. Seroquel is actually my miracle drug because it completely gets rid of all my bipolar symptoms (seriously, I very rarely…
  • I've taken it but I can't give you a positive story in regards to Zyprexa... I was on it for about a month or two for bipolar and I gained 20 lbs during that time. I was so miserable at the time that I didn't even realize at first how much weight I was gaining and then I turned around and couldn't fit into any of my…
