I kept trying different names, but they never seemed to come when I called, so I just gave up. A couple of months ago, I upgraded to a Giant Cypress DX and the seller threw in a Diamondback Response. Both are fun and a lot better than the walmart bike I started with, but the snob appeal is pretty low. I'm good with that.

Your HRM numbers sound awfully low. I'd check the settings (age, weight, sex) and make sure it is set properly. But I can't tell how hard you are challenging your body on the equipment, but 250 calories There is a site here - http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm - that allows you to put in the info yourself. You would need…

I don't understand the doctor's advice, but as long as it makes sense to you, that is all that matters. That said, flax seed is a good non-fish source of omega 3 fatty acid that supports increasing HDL. You can mix flax seed meal into cereal, smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, casseroles... it is 30 calories per tablespoon, not…

When I was a kid, my folks had a Reader's Digest Collection (yeah, we were hip) recording of an unnamed ensemble singing that song, slowed down and very... melancholy. It had the same feel as "I'll be home for Christmas." It was a pretty, moving song and became one of my favorites. But yeah, I hate Elvis' singing it.

Of all the silly things I have seen on this thread, "professional bee keeping degree" used in an argument is the funniest so far.

Wow. Profound. And now, stolen.

Congrats! I hope your goal wasn't to walk 666 miles, but the mileage and the weight loss are both wonderful accomplishments.

There's a point where it quits being disagreement and starts looking like bullying and piling on. I think this thread has reached that point. Opinions are great. Hopefully this gives you something to talk to your doctor about.

Nearly all of my fishing success I can attribute to water. It also makes kayaking much simpler and much easier on the boats themselves.

When in doubt, I tend to choose the conservative value. But I don't deliberately understate it. I'd rather have the most accurate (or at least, standardized) result because if I lose weight or if I stop losing weight, it doesn't do me any good to have bad data for the last three months to refer back to. I do use a heart…

The endurance will come if you stay at it. Push yourself, but don't hurt yourself. Two ways to increase your exercise time and the associated calorie burn: (1) Do the elliptical twice a day, even if the second time is only for a few minutes. (2) In addition to the elliptical you are doing, find time to go for a 20 minute…

I got hungry early and attributed it to the time change.

Fabulous success! Congrats on that. Question: Does the Wii on that side of the pond weigh you in stones? :)

If you believe that your weight is a function of fuel in versus fuel used, then an off day doesn't fit into that model. If you base what you weighed the next morning on what you ate the day before, you will reach some pretty... preposterous conclusions. I don't think you can eat deep fried cheese curds (I really hope that…

I'll be the first to say that exercise is only half of the equation. Your diet matters, and you can't do enough exercise to overcome a really bad diet. Not saying that yours is, just that we can't tell from outside. Traditional wisdom says that cardio/aerobic and/or resistance training (as opposed to stretching) is what…

MFP also takes sex into account, which from what I have read, is a big factor in the algorithms. But when in doubt, pick one to use and if the desired results on your weight go the way you want, you picked right. If not, adjust. It is all just a probability curve that isn't exactly right for any of us. That said, the MFP…

Do you put the catfish down when you weigh? That could be part of it.

My experience is that treadmills don't fully prepare your body for road-running. There are some small muscles in my lower leg that "launch" me forward in running that don't come into play on a treadmill (the same is true in brisk walking on a treadmill too). But a lot of the work you have done does prepare other parts of…

Jog 100 yards, walk 100. If you get too tired to jog, just walk. In time it will get easier and you will have a better feel for your range. Then you can up the jogging distance, but lots of folks continue to mix up running and walking in the same session. You are doing it for you, so you are the only one you have to please.

I never take fashion advice from men wearing fur - unless he killed it himself. Just saying. Hope you enjoy the new kicks. New stuff is fun.

There is a function/setting on them (at least on the one I have) that calculates calories burned based on age, sex, and heart rate. I don't know if there is a way to calculate it otherwise. Check the instructions or look them up on the web.

Boneless pork loin chops. Charcoal. Yum.

I think you will find that the correct answer is, "It depends."

I need to save this to show my wife how lucky she is that she doesn't have a skinny husband. :) Best of luck on your lifestyle change.

I think you do whatever helps you stay on plan, and if that means taking a day off, then take a day off. Still, I'd look at total calories for the week to help decide how "off" I could be. A day off with 6000 calories will undo the other six days of staying below your goal. You should still record what you eat and see how…

It just occurred to me that if I measured my chin, I don't know whether to count it twice or three times. :)

Super job! Congrats on your success so far and good luck as you continue.

Gargle warm salt water. You will be surprised at how soothing it is.
