Here's a link to a thread I posted a while back about making mayonnaise - it's easy, and since a little goes a long way, a few minutes of work will yield enough to last for weeks! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/373973-homemade-mayonnaise-bring-out-the-very-best?hl=coconut+oil+mayonnaise&page=1#posts-5829489 This…

Just finished my last meal of oysters for breakfast this morning - served on white grits (as in the picture I shared above), fried in butter, and topped with some chives, dill, and parsley. And a glass of red wine. Because, although it's Sunday morning, it's never too early for mushrooms and wine. Now I'm warmed up from…

I fried the mushrooms in some butter: And served them with some chives and parsley on grits: They were mighty good! Great texture (firmer than button mushrooms, and with less moisture), and the flavor was meaty and slightly woodsy. All in all, a lovely mushroom to add to a dinner plate! I have a bit left that I'll cook…

Who knows - though I think, if the egg were fertilized, the embryo might not be able to grow inside the shell, since the small one would restrict it. So it might not be able to grow to maturity and hatch.

Love hearing everyone's advice and experiences! Thank you for the explanation on why this double egg phenomenon happened. And for the curious, I don't have a rooster, so none of my eggs are fertile. Well, none of my hens' eggs, anyway! It was a day of discovery out at the coop this morning - besides this egg, I also…

I did! It was normal and delicious.

I've perused that site before - an excellent resource! I guess you never know what you're going to find out there! Always glad to hear from another hen-keeper.

Yeah, I've been pushing them pretty hard... haha... And they typically lay fewer and fewer eggs as the hours of sunlight dwindle, so this was a neat surprise.
-
mmm! sounds great! I thought I'd just fry them up if I didn't have any other ideas.

this is a tasty thread full of good suggestions! as for finding fresh milk, ask around at your farmers' markets and health food stores - I found unpasteurized milk for sale at a health food market and then, via the store, met several other local producers who sold it even cheaper than the store did. you never know what you…

I've found it helpful to abandon the idea of "breakfast food" most days... usually I just have leftovers or soup. Today I had steamed green beans and some pork roast that I made yesterday - it was a big helping, and the breakdown was 640 cals, 13g carbs, 37g fat, and 60g protein. I don't eat between meals, and I know I'll…

Are you able to get a good quality goat or sheep milk down under? I live in the US, but I've had luck tracking down smaller dairies in my area where I can buy good milk. If you're up for it, you could make some soft cheeses pretty easily, and the calorie/fat content would be determined by the butterfat in your milk. One of…

Seeds are hard to digest. If it's clear that you don't tolerate them (and it sounds like it is), I don't think you'll be missing anything nutritionally if you replace them with other whole foods. If you wish you could eat them because you like the way they taste, I'm sorry! That stinks. Do you have a similar response to…

cool! I've never seen a shelled egg inside another one before! maybe certain breeds are more likely to lay certain kinds of unusual eggs? my friend says that her six-year-old likes to eat the little eggs with short bacon strips and silver dollar-sized pancakes. cute idea! I wonder the same thing - they only lay like this…

here's the tiny egg next to an average-sized large egg - the yolk was about the size of a dime! totes adorbs. I can't say for sure what was inside the big egg, as I gave it to my neighbor. hopefully two or three yolks!
-
smart! I didn't know that; thanks for the tip!

try leftovers! it's a nice way to vary your breakfasts and make sure you never have to throw food away.

You could try making your own frozen meals, that way you know exactly what's in them. One of my favorites is a good burrito, and you can make it pretty cheaply if you want. I usually include some rice and beans, chicken (I pick the meat off the chicken I use for soup stock, and use that if it's not too tough), some diced…

Mmm - I used to think I didn't like beets, and then I tried cooking them. I think they're a good addition to a homemade pizza, and I usually peel and grate them (raw), toss with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, and top my pizza with them. I've also grilled them with good results (I dressed them in a balsamic…

thought I'd switch it up a bit - I love egg-based sauces, like hollandaise, and lemon curd is one of my favorite additions to yogurt. I also enjoy homemade mayonnaise (I usually use coconut and olive oils or bacon grease) and caesar dressing, which are great ways to get some raw egg goodness if you're bored with smoothies.…

It sounds like you're really dedicated to improving your health, so I think you deserve a high five for that! But I can understand why you're frustrated; I would be too if my efforts hadn't led to the changes I was expecting. I don't have thyroid problems, so I can't offer any advice gleaned from personal experience there,…

Do you like savory breakfasts? And would you have time to prepare something the night before? I've seen some good suggestions on here in the past for things like breakfast burritos, egg muffins, etc., but my favorite go-to breakfast (at home or in the car) is soup. If I have time, I'll make it in the morning and sit down…

Do you find that you're more hungry after finishing what you've portioned out for a meal? Or that you get hungry between meals? I think your strategy might need to be different depending on what you're experiencing. Also, think about the meals that fill you up: what are they like? What time of day do you usually consume…

Would you become less attracted to someone after they told you they used to be overweight? If not, then you don't need to tolerate it in a partner. I'm sure you'll have ample opportunity to explain to the person you're in a relationship with that you used to be overweight. If they find that unappealing, they can move on,…

I give blood every two or three months, and I find that if I plan ahead, it's just fine. Like you mentioned, I try to exercise before I go so that I can rest afterward, and I bring my own snack (usually fresh fruit, or maybe a smoothie) so I don't feel like I need to take any cookies. I don't know if you like liver, but I…

If you're concerned about sugar in salad dressing, it might be easier to make some. Depending on what type you prefer, I bet you could make a superior version at home with relatively little effort, even if cooking isn't your favorite thing to do! Vinaigrettes are easy, and there are lots of good recipes available online.…

Yeah, beans aren't the perfect source of protein, but they are delicious! Are you especially fond of any meals that include them? Most people have one or two beany favorites like refried beans, bean dip, or chili. All of these can be made much cheaper and more healthfully if you start with dried beans that you prepare…

I made a cold cucumber soup last year that I can't wait to make again! (cukes won't be here in Maryland in force for another couple of weeks, I think.) Use a blender to mix peeled cukes, chicken stock, yogurt, and whatever seasonings (I used onions, garlic, dill, salt, and pepper) you think would be tasty. I bet it would…

I had the same problem after an incident a few years ago in which I developed a bad rash and broken skin under my arms. I couldn't shave or wear deodorant for a few months, and after giving them both up, I noticed that I no longer have the irritation or the discoloration. I tried every deodorant/shaving cream/razor I could…
