I'm working on being more mindful of being mindful :-)

I'm 60, 5'5" and sitting at ~233. I've lost 23 pounds, (slowly). Doesn't seem like much until I pick up 23# worth of free weights and realize that's a lot of additional weight to carry around all day. Mood, strength, energy and sleep have all improved with that 23 pound loss. I intend to keep at it, with a first goal of…

I think it helps to remember that no matter what size you are, you are lovable, you are worthy and you are enough. What others think about you, say and do doesn't matter anymore. What really matters is that you realize you have the ability to love and care for your self, as you would love any child in your care. You also…

Anyone can add me too - glad to give and receive support!

Thanks for posting this. I love anything 'curry'.

I can empathize - it's hard to watch so much time go by with little or no movement on the scale. But say you lose 20 pounds in a year, which is, on average, 0.38 pounds per week. You can see, that in 5 weeks time - that feels pretty negligible ( 0.38#/wk x 5 weeks = 1.9 lbs). Shoot, my weight can fluctuate that much just…

Truly wonderful! Thanks for sharing - helps me remember that one day at a time can reap big results in a year. ( And a much needed boost on a day I pushed 900+ calories 'over' goal )

I weigh 234 . For cardio I use the stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical and I swim. Swimming is harder to gauge - but on the equipment - if I'm really working hard - meaning I have a nice steady sweat running down my forehead, chest and back, and my heart rate is in the mid to upper range of my target zone - I figure I'm…

Truly inspiring. Thanks so much for posting this!

I think some of the programs on TV have set the bar for unrealistic expectations.. When people on TV lose 5 or 6 pounds in one week, we feel defeated when we lose 5 or 6 pounds ( or less) in one month. It doesn't have to come off fast. In fact it's better for us in the long run if it doesn't. Please don't give up. I, too,…

From what I've read on this, It can take up to two years for you to see this resolve. Although if you were overweight for many years, it may not fully resolve. There is surgery for this - but personally I would consider it as a very last resort, as surgery always carries risks. I'd wait a couple years and see if you can be…

Phenomenal!! What an accomplishment!

Here's the results of one study - http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/06/how-sleep-loss-adds-to-weight-gain/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0

Welcome and congratulations on setting reasonable goals! I'm 60 and started out with 100+ pounds to lose, and have lost 21 thus far. It's taking time, but I feel so much better. Friend me if you want.

I struggle with this too. I usually do well at breakfast and lunch - allowing about 500 calories for each meal, trying to incorporate protein, fiber and a little fat so I don't get hungry right away. Still, come dinner I'm usually really hungry, and it's easy to overdo, especially if I've done any resistance training that…

Made this for dinner last night and was really delicious. It's quick, easy, affordable and low in calories. I also think it would be great for a crowd - you could make it vegetarian or not. Also, am wondering if you posted this in the MFP database - if so - under what recipe name? Thanks
-
Thanks. Off to the grocers. Going to try this tonight!

This ^^^^ Just have to bump things up a notch - eat a little less, move a little more, and incorporate strength training.

I agree with not weighing often. Really, if you are making long term changes, you will see results over time. I know it's hard not to be looking for daily/weekly results, but it helps, as long as you are fairly consistent with your program ( not perfect), to just trust the numbers on the scale will be different a month or…

Congratulations! What an accomplishment. I still have about 70 pounds to go - so I very much appreciate your story and inspiration. Thanks for sharing this and showing it can be done!

Welcome to MFP ! I'm 60 as well, and started with 100 pounds to lose about a year ago. I'm down 18. It's happening slowly, but it's happening. Friend me if you want.

Oat milk is good too - I like it on oatmeal and in smoothies. I also like the combination of coconut milk and almond milk. The coconut milk adds a creamier texture

I make my own almond milk as well. It's cheaper, less container waste, and no carrageenan ( of which there is apparently some controversy over the safety) Plus, I can keep bulk almonds in my freezer, which is easier for me storage wise than the boxes or cartons of milk. It only takes about 15 minutes to make. I usually…

Thank you for sharing this wonderful, inspirational, amazing story. Made me cry.

Oh boy, can I relate to this one. haha I still have days like that, because we love to celebrate everything with friends & family and food is often part of the celebration. Like you, I love to cook, and equally as much, enjoy delicious food. Over the long haul, though, I'm trying to focus on 'improvement' rather than…

Thanks for posting - you're already an inspiration by sharing your story. Here are a few things I tell myself to help keep me on track: - Be willing to change, and to change the image you have of yourself - Be willing to be responsible, accountable, healthy, confident, and strong. - Step outside your comfort zone and…

I 'm not sure anyone's 'butthurt over it'. The point is, especially in an environment where people are feeling somewhat insecure and vulnerable, (and folks who have been battling weight issues often are), that rude and sarcastic feedback is more likely to end discussion than encourage it. On the other hand, thoughtful,…
