  • I'm a morning workout person myself - up at 4:30, work out right away then off to the rest of my day. By going in the morning, I avoid the heat of the day, and also set myself up well for the day. Occasionally when I need to blow off some steam I'll do an afternoon workout, but I never get as much out of it.
  • That's exactly what my plan is once I pass my goal and I'm comfortable enough with my new eating habits that I don't need to log anymore - I'm thinking it will be about 2-3 months after goal. Good job for getting to that point already.
  • Thanks for the encouragement. It felt so great doing it, but man am I sore today - I'd say it's a good sore, but that's hard to say right now, it just hurts, lol. Can't wait to start running again though.
  • I did C5k and it was definitely slow to start, didn't feel like it was doing anything and I felt like "why bother" - but starting about week 4 it started showing it's stuff and was really hard weeks 5 and 6. I ended up pulling a muscle at the end of week 6 (or beginning of week 7, can't remember) and never went back into…
  • For me, it was 25 lbs for the first size, and it seems like it will be about the same for the next size down as well (not quite there yet, but close).
  • My wife is very into cauliflower pizza (http://www.examiner.com/x-355-Low-Carb-Examiner~y2008m6d4-Cauliflower-Pizza-Crust-Worth-its-Wow-in-Gold), eats it 3-4 times per week. I'll have to tell her about the other ideas here ...
  • Awesome app, thanks for the heads up! I'll definitely be using this on future runs.

  • It really depends on the person - I'm completely the opposite of the other people who've posted here. When I tried to set mini goals (every 10 pounds), I had absolutely no motivation - 10 pounds was such a small, easy to achieve goal that I didn't have the motivation to actually do something and lose the weight. I ended up…
  • Banana is definitely my favorite pre-workout snack. If I don't have a banana, a piece of toast or some granola works well.
  • I also agree with the "every day is a new start" saying. Basically, it doesn't matter what you did before - you just need to start fresh. If you are stuck on feeling bad for yourself in the past, you'll never be able to get out of that past behavior. The past is the past, leave it there! Don't keep bringing it up into your…
  • One thing that helped me when I was having trouble eating all of my calories was to stop buying the low-calorie or low fat versions of things, then the portion size you're eating contains more calories and you don't feel like you're totally stuffing yourself to eat everything. Another thing that helped was to spread out my…
  • I agree with the rest here, you don't sound like you need weight loss help, you need relationship advice. Your husband's behavior in this is controlling and manipulative, and not what you need or deserve.
  • Most pickles are high in sodium, but if you look hard you can find some with very low sodium, _Very_ hard to find though.
  • Just finished week 6 day 1 this morning. For some reason, I had a harder time finishing today than I did week 5 day 3 where I had to run for 20 mins straight. I don't get it...
  • I did similar on a trip to Vegas in April. I wasn't logging on vacation, but thought I was doing good, just didn't think about the alcohol I was drinking. I gained 2.8 lbs that week, but the next week after I got home I lost 3.4.
  • Funny, I thought that was just me! When I first started working out quite a bit my stomach just itched like crazy. I never got a rash or anything, just got that crazy itch. It's mostly gone now, but still comes back from time to time, though not nearly as itchy.
  • What worked well with me when I started (at 265 lbs.) was to start slow with an elliptical machine and stationary bike, building up until I could be on there for a while without my heart going through the roof. Once I got to a good point with my heart rate (which happened at about 245 or so), I started the Couch to 5k…

  • I slowly worked myself into being a morning workout person, getting up at 4:30 and working out right away, then going to work for the next 11 hrs or so. When working OT, I never have the energy to work out at night, so doing this way was about the only way I could work it all in.
  • That was pretty much me a few months ago - I'm also 5'6" and was 265 when I started trying to lose weight. I was on the verge of several of the same problems as you have, but not quite there. The Dr. wasn't quite as drastic about me losing weight as needing a gastric bypass, but definitely said that I should lose quite a…
  • I have a polar FT60, and sometimes get odd readings from it. With the polar at least, when it's getting odd results it's often the case that these odd readings happen from a poor connection to your body. In mine, the strap needs to be wet when I put it on, and if it doesn't have enough water on it the HR will go offline…

  • I started at 265, my initial number goal is 190, which I haven't been at since high school and is still overweight according to the BMI. That's definitely not my end goal, but after 190 I'll be taking it a bit slower to listen to my body and see where I finally end up. I'm thinking I'll probably end up in the mid 170's,…
  • I'm eating about 90% organic now, removing the things that aren't organic out of my diet. There are also many not-certified-as-organic farms locally that I buy from, but they are sustainable (and basically organic, just don't have the "organic" label from the USDA). Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are great resources (and I…
  • I was about to say the same about the diet of the kid in question. I know my 5 yr old son's behavior is _much_ improved from a few months ago once my wife and I changed our eating patterns for the better (and his as well). It was a difficult transition period (that is not quite over with), but obviously well worth it.…
  • Finished week 4 day 2 this morning. I'm really liking the program, and it'd doing wonders. I run in the mornings, 5 AM or so to avoid the daytime heat, plus I'm kind of a morning workout person anyway.
  • When I first started losing weight I dropped 10 lbs then was stuck there for 2-3 months or so. I thought it was enough to just eat smaller portions and exercise. I felt results (much improved stamina) but didn't see any inches lost or weight loss. Once I finally started logging onto MFP is when I noticed the difference -…
  • My doctor was very blasé about it. He basically just said it wasn't something to worry about, but just try to eat less starches and sweets. That was about it. I'll have to look into the syndrome x diet, see what that's about. My wife has PCOS as well, and has made it very hard for her to lose weight. She's about 5 weeks…
  • Everything the other people said, plus you mention that you recently added strength training and doubled your cardio. When starting on a new exercise or drastically changing the exercise you're doing, your muscles will retain some water in order to heal themselves. The water weight will go away once your body gets used to…
  • I found that I needed to do this as well. I work out about 5 AM, right after waking up and didn't have a problem doing it on an empty stomach until I started to get my cardio workouts to about 40-45 mins or more. I started getting massive headaches, dizzy spells, etc. Now, if I'm working out any more than 30 mins, I'll…
  • I have two sister-in-laws that have had the surgery, one had it first about 15 or 20 years ago, another about 3-4 years ago. The first one lost a ton of weight, but had massive problems and ended up gaining the weight plus some. She's since had the surgery redone 2 more times. She's down from what she was, but still…
  • This trick usually works to get me going when I don't want to start - just tell yourself that you only need to do 15 minutes. If, after 15 minutes you still don't want to exercise you can stop. What usually happens for me is that after the 15 minutes, I want to keep going and end up having a great workout. Personally, I…
